My mum, sister and I arrived at the Suncliff on Easter Monday to celebrate my mum's 60th in Bournemouth. The outside looked fairly ok we had arrived at a busy time as 3 coaches of people had arrived. Check in was fine and I was handed our room key. Our room was located on the 2nd floor along the outdated, badly sign posted and smelly corridors. Our room finally located, was truly horrific, we asked for a family room to sleep 3, the room was barely big enough for one person and was so badly decorated it looked like a room from the shining. The putrescent pink décor in the bathroom, cracked tiles and peeling linoleum and smell was horrendous. We immediately checked with the two sister hotels on either side to see if there were any vacancies, they were both full. We spoke to the receptionist at the suncliff who after seeing my furious face and taking my complaint onboard showed us to two other rooms. The second not bad but the third room was what we had booked in the first place. Although still badly outdated and scruffy, it was clean and had somewhat of a sea view. Please don’t get me started on what passed for night entertainment, only three words to describe it, cheap, tacky and tasteless, the hotel is not suitable for anyone under 60, The facilities were located in a cold draughty basement, the squash courts are a disgrace. The hotel is also quite inaccessible for elderly guests there is a ramp to the entrance, which is on a 90-degree angle the worst accessible equipment I have ever seen. My advice, is to steer clear of this hotel, it needs serious refurbishment rebuilt with modern décor and facilities until then I would never go back to this terrible hotel.

My partner and i went here for a few days in June 2007. We were the only young and English people in the hotel, almost all staff were foreign and could not understand what we were saying. Had problems with our first room which smelt of sewerage, complained at 10.30am then went out for the day, returned to the hotel at around 4.30 problem was still not dealt with, once again went down to reception where a maintenance man was sent up, poured something down all plug holes which had a very strong smell but yet the problem was still not resolved. Eventually we got moved rooms and where upgraded to a sea view double room, the receptionist worker who dealt with us was very helpful. Entertainment was on every night, but was more for the elder generation, their sister hotel the Cumberland is more suited to the younger generation where the decor is very modern and the bar was much nicer to sit in at the end of the night. We only ever had breakfast at the hotel, which was ok if you went down at 8am but when we went in later the food was reheated and chewy. The leisure facilities where very good and were generally very quiet which was nice. We would not return to this hotel, but would consider their sister hotel The Cumberland.

Main hotel really nice, clean and welcoming. Hotel room very basic - like walking back into the 1970's, shabby bathroom with ill fitting fixtures and worn out cupboard. Requested a double room, single beds just pushed together.

We were part of a coach trip holiday, and really enjoyed our stay at the Suncliff. The staff were all friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The meals were of a very high standard and although we were with a coach party, we had the same choices as all the other guests. A small part of the hotel was a little shabby, but we understand the hotel is being renovated, we couldn't fault the cleanliness. We would recommend the hotel and would certainly be very happy to stay there again. All ages were there, including young children and the hotel was fine for all. The entertainment was mostly good, and they encouraged the customers to dance and join in, one little boy around 2 years old, stole the show with his dancing !! Thanks to all at the Suncliff

think before you book - reviews are not to be ignored!!We ignored the reviews... to our peril. I must admit i agreed with almost all of the negative points about the Suncliffe. The website portrays a completely different product beware! Dont get us wrong we are not the complaining type and have never written a review before , but this place warranted it! Firstly We think the staff did as best as they could with the shabby hotel. We asked to change rooms and the reception manager was happy to show us two alternatives, very good service we thought. The first room we were shown was quite awful. I have stayed at better hostels for £1 in Thailand. The first room was 60's styled, pink bathroom , chipped morrors, stained plastics, grubby matching duvet cover and curtains a wardrobe which was more like a larder stuck to the wall and a single room with a queen bed sold to us as a double. I am sure trading standards would have something to say here. Also there is no jacuzzi and steam room and you have to especially request the sauna to be turned on ( it then takes half an hour to get warm and fits two people inside max. Good points - food was good , staff good and customers friendly, it has a beautiful view over the Sea ( £40 supplement to see from your room). for the £65 we paid we would not go back. Good luck!

A really nice hotel that we intend to visit whenever we are in Bournemouth. We had our wedding guests staying here and they were generally very impressed.

Did not start well, but improved.Stepped in damp patch next to bed, turned out to be a large patch or urine, was given another room, however no trouser press, room did not have a bath, plus taps were loose on basin. Breakfast was fine, however not enough time was given to finish the toast and have a cup of tea b4 full english brought out, felt very rushed. Maybe its a one off, hotel in all was okay and staff friendly, plenty of car parking at no extra cost also situation to the beach was great, but you will need your walking shoes to get down to the beach via zig zag path or cheat using cliff lift.

We have just returned from spending 5 nights at the Suncliffe. This is a lovely hotel in a superb position facing the sea. We were given a refurbished room which was beautiful, and although not classed as a 'sea view' room, we were pleasantly surprised to see as far a Boscombe Pier from the window. Our room and the communal areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean, although the pool area could do with updating. The Staff are all very friendly and helpful. The food was good, plenty of choice for breakfast. This is the 2nd time we have visited this hotel and would always try to book it again if we return to Bournemouth. Excellent value for money!

Some good things; some badOn arrival the receptionist was kind and helpful. Our room was ''on the 1st floor, out of the lift and follow the directions''(which were good),but they had to be as it was turn right, down 4 steps, turn left, turn right, up 2 steps, through a door, left, right........It was a long way and if we hadn't been fit, quite exhausting. The room was dark as the outlook was the fire escape stairway from a small window.(I am convinced this was because I had a cut price deal). Didn't have an evening meal but the breakfast was hot and plentiful, and quickly served. The swimming pool was clean, perfect temperature and an added bonus of the use of the outdoor pool next door. The car park was good. However the main disappointment with the room was the cigarette burn holes in the chair and blanket, and the paintwork in the bathroom was a bit tired. As I said - some good things; some bad.

No more second chancesI used to stay at the Suncliffe on a regular basis about three years ago, and then it changed hands and the service and standards went down hill rapidly. I could not get booked in anywhere else and decided to give the Suncliff a second chance - never again.I booked a double room and was surprised they had the nerve to call the room provided a double - yes it did have a double bed but you had very little space to walk around it and no storage space other than a small wardrobe and the bedside drawers. Two people staying for four days need a little more storage the eight hangers and two very small drawers. The room was at most a single and considering the quality and prices of the near by hotels I am surprised the Suncliff survives! Next time I will cancel my business trip rather than stay at the Suncliff again.

DisappointmentHotel is very dated, not very clean. There is no jacuzi and the pool is not a very nice area to spend time. Breakfast was ok, asked if the eggs were free range and was offered fried eggs! As all of the staff seem to be non English speaking it is difficult to get what you ask for! I asked a second time if the eggs were free range and the reply was 'who?' Then he gave up and said yes! They consistently left off 1 item of my partners fry up each day, first there was no sausage, then no beans, even though they had both in stock!Walls and ceilings are thin, beds small and uncomfortable.Would recommend the Carlton up the road, looks very nice and good leisure facilties!

Very disapponted with this hotel, we booked a double room and we were given a tiny room with a double bed crammed into it. It was more like a single sized room. The room was newly decorated but still not to a very high standard. Our family had larger Rooms but they were yet to be decorated and looked like they hadn't been touched since the 50s. Breakfast was just as poor standard. I wouldn't recommend this hotel and won't be staying there again myself.

Hotel is homely and comfortable. Service friendly and considered very good. Excellent location and within a pleasant walk to the town. Parking can be a problem as music and functions are a feature in the evenings. This trip was good value for money.

Room very shabby needs redecoration. Shower just about adequate water tepid rather than hot. As only wanted bed for night rather than having to travel home after concert at BIC accomadation was just ok. Would not use hotel if I was spending time in Bournmouth.

We travelled with our teenage children, aged 15 and 16 and booked a separate room for them. The standard of their room was better than ours having a sea view and being brighter and more spacious. Our room overlooked the car park and was quite cramped for a double room. The service was very good with the exception of our request for a second hand towel being ignored on two occasions. We had one evening meal which was of a high standard and the breakfast was also very good. Do not arrive late for breakfast as we saw one couple turned away. It was a bonus to be able to use the facilities of the neighbouring hotels. Generally it was a very pleasant stay and we would stay again

Location was fantastic, lunch was good and staff were helpful. However, the bedrooms are in dire need of refit, bathroom fittings were life expired, literally falling apart! The advertised gym consisted of 3 very old machines, one of which didn't work.

The hotel was very shabby + unclean we chose the suncliff because of the indoor pool etc but this was horrilbe, there was a hosepipe filling the pool from outside through the window, plasters on the floor the sauna was dirty and the temperature gauges were not working! The toilet in our room wouldnt flush and matress very lumpy. Pay a litlle more and go some where nice!
