When we first arrived, the hotel staff didn't have our room reserved correctly. They blamed the internet reservation sites. we were put in a small room with one bed (there were 4 of us) with no view, nor, as we found out later, coffee mugs, a workable TV or enough towels or blankets. No rollaways were available either. We were not the only ones this had happened to that day. My daughter ended up spending the night on the floor. Thankfully, the next day, we were able to move to another, larger room with a view which was very pleasant. This was due to the hard work and diligence of one hotel staff person, who made sure that we were able to move to a much better room. Overall, the location and restaurant were excellent and our 2nd night was spent very comfortably. However, there are a lot of kinks that this hotel needs to work out if it wants to remain competitive with its high-tone neighbors.

Very comfortable stay. No coffee in rooms. Have to shower, etc and trudge down. Hotel desk was very busy and had to wait a little longer than I was comfortable with. At 2:45 they said our room on floor 6 was not ready, but gave us a no view room on floor 2. We could have waited, but were tired from a days jet, train travel and wanted a room. Rate was good, thanks to Priceline! Would stay thee again, but a 4 star rating might be a reach, in my estimation. Very nice experience though.

This hotel was great. Extremely nice surroundings and the staff was uncomparable. I would definately stay again.

This hotel is planning a re-do and it is long overdue. Carpet stains, worn fabrics, dated look. We had to be re-located to another room because of insects in the original room (bed) which were believed to be bedbugs. No apology or consideration from staff or management. Concierge was helpful. Restaurant was dismal, overpriced and understaffed. Holiday decor was grim. Great location on cable car line. Gift shop does not sell local newspaper!

Having stayed at this property several years ago we thought this would be a great place to stay on our Honeymoon in San Francisco. I alerted the hotel to this fact but during check in and throughout our stay this was NEVER acknowledged. The hotel is going thru a renovation which would have been nice to know. Main lobby and entry is closed and I never found a restaurant though I heard later that it was open. Our room was the absolute furthest from the hotel lobby (top floor furthest from the elevator), room was very small, no ice machines on floors (you are supposed to call front desk to get ice but the number is not listed on the phone or in the hotel information). I finally found this out by calling the concierge and after leaving a message on their voice mail (they never answered direct during our stay) they called back to tell me the number I needed to call. It would have been nice if they would have just sent up ice. Coffee in the lobby was often not there until after 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning (which is too late for those of us coming from the Central time zone). The refurbishing is along the lines of a "W" hotel and not my style but some may like. My biggest disappointment was the lack of acknowledgment of our marriage. It didn't have to be much (though an upgraded room would have been nice) but they should have done something. Overall not a great experience for us.

Myself as well as 15 other designers came to Sanfranciso for the Connecting 07 Design Conference and we having a great stay at the Stanford until the last night. The rooms are great, the hotel is beautiful, the beds are soft, and its in a great locations. On the last night we decided to conclude our stay with a group dinner located in the lower level of the hotel. The food menu was small and high priced but the meal and service was amazing....until we got the bill. When we made our parties reservations earlier, we clearly specified we we all needed to be on seperate check (all 15 of us) and they assured us that this was no inconvience to them. When the bill came it was all compiled onto one check. When we asked them to split it they said they couldn't. When we reviewed the bill, their were many mistakes (drinks and food we did not order) that had to be sorted out and still they would not split the check. I had to put the whole bill (over *) onto a credit card I never use and then sit down myself with a calculator and pen and portion out everything myself, only to find more mistakes. The next day I flew back home and checked my online statement to find out that they had overcharged me on the dinner. I called their billing department and after the 50+ minutes of redirects, call backs, and holds they simply told me that my statement and their papers did not match and that therefore I was wrong and their is nothing the can or will do about it. Overall if your in your mid twentys and not a super rich elite, they wont give you the time of day.

The hotel was okay, but over-priced for the quality received. On the good side, the staff was cordial, and the hotel and rooms were clean. On the bad side, the rooms were very small, and the beds were not of good quality. I had back pain after sleeping in the bed; the mattress and/or box spring had to much "give."Also the concierge wasn't helpful at all. Even getting advice on local activities was like pulling teeth. It would have been nice to have been offered a little advice on the bus and trolley system, and where to buy tickets, etc. I had asked the concierge for help in getting tickets to see Alcatraz (apparently the tour is very popular and sells out days in advance.) Since we were only in San Francisco for 2 days, all the tickets were sold out. I tried to get the concierge to help us find a way to get tickets; the only response was that we were out of luck, and there was no possible way to get tickets. I later found out from other sources that the tour operator has "walk-up" tickets available for those who show up early in the morning. At best, the concierge was uninformed; at worst, the concierge seemed to have no interest in being helpful. As for location, what can I say.. It's in San Francisco, a great place to see! It was nice that the Hotel was located on one of the Trolley stops. If I have it to do over again, I'll choose a Hotel closer to Fisherman's Wharf -- that's where we eneded up spending most of our time.

Don't rent a car. The parking fees are $45 plus tax per day/night. Everyone in the city can be reached using public transportation.

This hotel was very attentive to our needs. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There were no street people near our hotel. The cable car passed on both sides of the hotel. Union Square is close by and that is where the hub of the transportation is.

only problem was room we were given was not ready.promptly was given a new room with apology.this hotel is on corner of two cable car routes.this was great since we had no car.had no trouble going to pier 39 and walking distance to china town if you can traverse the steep hills.very nice upscale hotel with exceptionally comfortable beds.very nice restaurant with extensive wine offerings.

The hotel is in a great location, but right above the trolleys. If you're on one of 3 sides of the hotel, be prepared for the 'ring-ring' of the trolleys...not great for sleeping. First room had no dresser and a TV from 1968. Second room better but noisy. I had called the hotel 3 weeks before my stay requesting a high floor, king bed, with a view of the city...any view. Called again day before and both times told "no problem". They gave me a room on the first floor facing the courtyard. When I asked about this, I got a lukewarm response from the 3 front desk people I spoke with. The manager was a doll and fixed it all, but I waited for hours upon arrival for my first (bad)room and then had to repack and change the next day...annoying. I suspect the 3 front desk people knew I had a discounted Travelocity rate, something I've run into before. Between the noise of the trolley and the nonsense about the room, I won't be back.

The hotel is on top of Nob Hill, close to Union Square. Therefore, the rooms with views do not disappoint. Because the hotel is on a hill, to get to a lot of shops or restaurants, you will have to walk up and down steep San Franscisco hills. However, there are always cabs parked outside and the hotel is at the intersection of two San Fran Trolley lines. Overall, this was a great hotel for the price and we would definately stay here again.

Staff courtesy and service. For the price, it far exceeded my expectations. Parking was more than fair. They offered valet 24hour for competitive price. The staff was more than helpful in recommending hot spots and best way to get there. Being in a hurry, we ate during a peak hour in the corner of the in house restaurant, expecting to wait longer on service. We were in and out in about 30 minutes. The room was gorgeous. Obviously newly renovated. No regrets, it's the Hilton.

It was great....downtown San Francisco next to all the luxurious hotels....room was small however everything else was great. the parking is outrageous! $45/night we paid just as much for the parking as we did for the room! we had a great weekend watching the Giants Games and taking in the beauty of San Francisco
