Location Description:
Sprawling Los Angeles defies easy shopping categorization, yet be assured that options abound for virtually any taste ... from classic splendor to ever-so-trendy or undeniably tacky. Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive, especially between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, ranks among leading shopping promenades worldwide with the likes of Armani, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Bijan, the latter by appointment only for $15,000 men’s suits and $50 socks.
On Burton Way, Beverly Hills’ Lily et Cie, widely regarded as the nation’s premier vintage clothing shop, sparkles with Galanos gowns, Channel cocktail suits, and Judith Leiber bags. On Hollywood Boulevard, Fredericks of Hollywood’s original store stands out with bra enhancers, loads of marabou-embellished negligees and mules, merry widows, garter belts, and other provocations showcased out front, with a Lingerie Museum in back.

Dining:
The Restaurant at The Standard, Downtown LA is a California brasserie that serves New American cuisine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The vibrant interior features yellow booths and a diner style counter, as well as an outdoor patio that seats 62 adjacent to a flaming water fountain.
For fine dining, Los Angeles once ranked among the world’s big city bargains, with stiff competition keeping a lid on costs at many upscale establishments. But waves of visitors from far-flung corners accustomed to higher prices have spawned significant cost creep on L.A. menus.
Fortunately, first-class ethnic restaurants in abundant supply remain suitable for tighter budgets. Los Angeles also has a reputation for catapulting its top chefs like Wolfgang Puck onto the international culinary stage, assuring that innovation remains a standard on local menus. As a culinary melting pot, items from persimmons and wasabi are no longer limited to the ethnic or fusion cuisine scene. For that matter, just “going out for Mexican in L.A.” often leads to consideration of which region to choose -- Oaxacan to Yucatan. Reservations are recommended at most high-end restaurants. Some dining enclaves allow smoking at outdoor tables.

Description:
Trendy, cutting-edge design and plenty of unexpected twists sum up this design hotel set in the midst of bustling LA. On entering the building you are greeted with vast marble flooring and a 125 foot fuchsia "Omnibus" sofa by Vladimir Kagan, and a conceptual art installation by Jenny Holzer. The vibe is smart and chic, the décor in monochrome offset against 50's era architectural details. Textures alternate between smooth and crisp, to textured walls, to padded lather upholstery. Colour use is a speciality of the interior: in some rooms, canary yellow on yellow, in others red velvet chairs in crazy shapes against a backdrop of an autumn forest, reds, oranges, browns. The whole experience leaves you feeling a buzz which will carry you to LA nights on the rooftop terrace, yet another innovative design from The Standard Downtown LA.
