This hotel has Landmark Status and the management, and staff take pride in that and it shows. This hotel is no 40 story megastructure, but it has a lot of character and the rooms are clean, staff is great, and is in a great location.

Proximity to Millennium and Grant Parks, The Art Institute and Theaters. Amazing OK.

Great location-close to the theatres, and has a metro station line right in front of the hotel-the Loop. Walking distance to the main shopping areas and eating outlets.

huge king size bed lots of nice pillows. the whole room was big, bathroom was wow big, and the living area was seperate from bedroom with comfy love seat and 2 additional chairs. Tv in both living room and bedroom. only thing we didnt like was that the channels on the TV looked to be cable we had like 15 channels and 11 of them was news related all the time. when you take a shower that want you to use your towels twice before they changed them, was weird but we understood.

Wonderful place to stay. Very close to shopping downtown and Grant Park. The brown line has a stop right in front of the hotel which makes it so easy to navigate the city.

My daughters and I stayed at the Silversmith for a getaway. The location is just a few steps from the train which we took frequently. It is also close enough to the parks, shopping, theatre, and some of the best restaurants that we were able to walk. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.I would definately recommend this hotel both for it's locaton and staff.

Made pre-paid (required) reservation 7 months in advance for a NON-SMOKING suite for 2 nights at * per night but only suite available is SMOKING - not acceptable. Accepted downgrade to a queen room with rate to be adjusted by Manager (XXX) the following week. After numerous unreturned voice mail messages to Mr X, it is obvious he has no intention of refunding the difference (about */night) nor making any effort to apologize/explain/whatever.

Great location. Low key, helpful staff. Clean and very nice classic rooms and architecture.

very good location (central chicago) Friendliness of some staff was poor Great location, but the description "old world charme" makes me laughing. May be this is something american customers like, but what "old world charme" really ment was like "built a few decades ago and never renovated".

Hotel is conveniently located, but it is on the L. Thank God that I had a room on the west (back) side. Maybe upper floors on east (front) side would also be ok. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a nice cafe / deli on site which is also popular with the local business / office workers. The room was newly remodeled and very nice and clean. I only wish that I had known that access right now is tough because the sidewalks are being reconstructed along Wabash in front of the hotel. It made check-in a little tough. Be sure to ask front desk what is best way to handle check-in if you have a car. If you use the L or a taxi, there should be little problem.

It was not what we expected, it was way better. Great location, and easy to get around with the el right there. Rooms were spacious and had many more accomodations than other hotels I have been in. Great service, very clean, and great location.

I was more than pleased with our stay at The Silversmith. I promised my daughter a trip for her graduation 2 years ago and was finally able to make good on it. I wanted our experience at the hotel to be good, because to me, that sets the tone for the whole trip. Originally I wanted to stay at a nice chain hotel, because I figured I could rely on that type of hotel to be "perfect" and worry-free. I was skeptical of The Silversmith. But, right from the moment we entered, we were treated like VIP. The entrance was welcoming. We were personally welcomed by at least 3 workers before even checking in. We tried to upgrade to a room with a jacuzzi or whirlpool but that didn't work out. That was the only disappointing part. I liked that you had to use your key in the elevator to get to your floor. I felt very safe there. I was staying with my 20 year old daughter, so safety was a huge issue for me. I felt VERY SAFE at this hotel. Every single front desk person we dealt with was helpful and offered excellent suggestions for getting around Chicago. I had my trip very well planned and showed one of the people at the desk my plans. He very respectfully explained how to make it work better so that we would have the most enjoyable experience. For example, he suggested going to Shedd Aquarium in the morning and to make sure we were done by noon because of how crowded it would be. And he was definitely right. I SO appreciated that suggestion. When we got there in the morning, we walked right in and had a wonderful visit. When we left at noon, the line looked like it was truly a mile long. I bet there was an hour wait atleast to get in. We were able to walk up to whatever window or exhibit we wanted and take pictures and look at things for however long we wanted to. We didn't feel rushed or like we had to get out of someone's way so they could have a turn. We stayed in room 608 at The Silversmith. The room smelled clean, which to me meant...there was absolutely NO ODOR. You know how

Cleanliness and quietness of the building was impressive. There was a rude desk attendant on call 5/10. Convenient to Michigan Avenue. Manager was outstanding and very helpful. Bell hops were very helpful. Restaurant could be better.

Every time I travel to Chicago, I am trying to stay in thsi hotel. Very convenient location - just few minutes walk to Milelnium Park. "Feel" different than in large chain holels - I feel like at home

Location - close to State Street and Red Line. No pool and spa. Room in rear was very quiet.

Got a great deal on line for a family trip on a tight budget. However, the roll away I ordered would not fit in the room. Without hesitation the front desk comped us to a suite. Very friendly and courteous staff throughout the hotel. Great location for all of the must see attractions in Chicago.
