The resort was nice and I liked that it was removed from the cruise ship world of Georgetown. The only problem we had was the amount of children at the pool at all hours. Usually with no parent supervision. The hot tub said no children allowed, but there were always children in there. Ask for a room away from the pool. The trip to stingray city was LOTS of fun. We chose to pay for ours and not sit through a time share speech. We were not bothered by the staff about it at all. My husband did a lot of fly fishing at Heritage Beach which is about a 10 minute drive. Rent a car!!

The Reef Resort is everything we hoped it would be -- comfortable and attractive with a welcoming, friendly personality. We wanted a small resort with an intimate ambience and got it; we wanted good snorkeling off the beach and got it; we wanted a clean, pleasant room and got it; we wanted a good beach bar and got a great one; and we wanted good value for the dollar and got it. All in all, our time at the Reef Resort was delightful.

Hotel is very clean and in a great location on the island. If you don't want to be around big crowds, this is the place to stay. Maybe only 15 people on the beach all day. Resort next door is also very nice with good food, but expensive. Snorkel under the pier tons of fish. Rent a car and drive around the island and pull off the road to get some great pictures on secluded beaches. Most relaxing vacation I have ever been on. Will be going back in the future.

My husband and I went to The Reef to celebrate our 50th birthdays. We had such a good time and we felt young again. The snorkeling there is great, the beach is lovely and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food at the Rusty Pelican too. We loved having dinner as the sun was setting and enjoyed the sea breeze. It was always perfect.

My wife and I just got back from our 2nd visit to the Reef. The first was 9 days in the Summer of 2007 and the most recent was from 20-23 Feb 2009. We booked this as a Romantic getaway and we love beach vacations. We stayed on the 1st floor on the new building mentioned in the previous review and the room was OK. We recognized many of the staff from the previous trip and this made us feel right at home. The weather was unusually windy this February and the surf zone was very sandy. However, the snorkeling was great once I swam out past the short sandy area. Calmer waters could be found a short drive down the road. Their in house dive shop Ocean Frontiers offered us a great afternoon snorkel trip, and a good instructor for a resort course diving experience (PADI accredited). We had some troubles on our trip- Before the trip we needed to make changes and the Reef did their best to accommodate us- both with the room, and concierge staff helped change restaurant reservations we had made. While driving back from 7 Mile Beach, we were involved in a hit & run Car accident with our rental car. The travel agency package included the collision insurance, so Avis brought us a new car, and it was like having a small problem like a flat tire. The locals called the constables who quickly found the car, and handled the matter very professionally. We would recommend The Reef and Cayman Islands. It is safe, peaceful, and beautiful.

The Reef Resort is set on the east end of Grand Cayman island. The resort is excellent for beach relaxation with lounge chairs available on the beach or by the 3 pools. The beachfront luxury suites are all non-smoking and have a huge balcony over looking the gorgeous blue sea. The resort is beautifully maintained and very clean. Even in the morning, employees of the resort cleaned the seaweed off the beach for better enjoyment of their 1600' beach and swim area. The Hideaway beach bar and Castaways are excellent. On the weekends, Castaways offers buffet style dinners or you may order off their regular items menu. The staff in all areas of the resort are extremely friendly, knowing you on a first name basis. Located on the premises is a dive shop ran by Ocean Frontiers. Highly recommend their staff and knowledge for your next scuba diving trip or snorkeling adventure. Very handy grocery store across the street and a small store in front of the resort that sells alchohol and wine. Last, rent a car. The resort is about 40 minutes from Georgetown. You'll need it to drive around this wonderful island. Enjoy! I know we will be back in 2008.

Stayed the week of February 9th thru Valentines Day 09. View from the room of the beach is very nice, but it all ends ends there, even if you like great beaches and quiet relaxing parts of Cayman . We stayed in the last building down, building 3, third floor, which appeared new. The elevator and a/c were hit and miss in operation, and half the time the elevator was used by service staff who seemed to be chasing each others tails trying to figure out what needed to be done in each room and by whom, or it was broken. The winds consistently prevented any snorkeling and what little we or anyone else did get do do was very disappointing. Our main reason for choosing the Reef was the supposedly great snorkeling. It was a huge disappointment. HOWEVER, our greatest complaint was that we were rushed through check in on arrival, nothing was explained to us, and on checkout discovered that we had a $100 credit on our bill which was supposedly a promotional dining room allowance. Nobody ever explained or mentioned this to us until we checked out, at which time the desk person had no clue whatsoever what the credit was for and upon speaking with other resort staff, it was apparent that this "promotional incentive" is clearly a very poor business practice that is not mentioned to guests. Once you leave, youre done.

The Reef Resort provided a relaxing trip for us. The beach was long and private. Water was blue and calm. On Saturday, we went to 7 Mile Beach to visit, and saw that all those hotels each had small strips of not-so-private beaches. Those hotel rooms provided very limited beach views, and beach chairs were all crowded. At the Reef, every room had excellent beach views, and we could always find a private place on the beach. We had a deluxe studio and loved it: clean, plenty of space, comfortable. The food was good and fairly priced, though not great. There's a resort/condos next door if you want a different menu once in a while. We are a little picky, and wanted more local or ethnic food options. Our book and the concierge were helpful. The Lighthouse (15 min drive) was pricey, but the best food we have had in years, great for a special dinner. Try the beignets or any dessert. Thai Orchid had awesome thai food. You need a car, but do not rent from Thrifty's: horrible, slow service. Pay the extra money for the two main rental agencies. Bug spray is helpful for evenings. Rum Point is a great outing for a few hours: great food, awesome snorkeling under the pier, water activities, and nice scenic drive with beautiful homes. Reef did not seem to provide many options for kids, though great for couples like us.

This was a wonderful place to relax. It was a bit of a drive from the airport, but worth the effort. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; the resort was beautiful and clean; and the beach was uncrowded and awesome! There is also stores across the street is you need any food or liquor but make sure you do this before Sunday as they are all closed. All in all, we'd go back and stay at the Reef again..!

At first we were a little worried about the seclusion, but after one trip to Georgtown we were really greatful. No cruise ship tourist on this end of the island. At one point there were 5 ships in at the same time. This hotel does not have alot of frills but they have the best beaches and if you want to go to town just ask the front desk to call Apollo. He was the best bus driver we have ever met. A truly enjoyable stay!!

We loved our stay at the Reef Resort. We were looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway and this resort was perfect for that purpose. There were only a handful of other couples at the Reef and we felt like we had our own private Caribbean beach. Whenever we swam in the pool we were the only ones there. We stayed in a studio unit on the second floor. We had a gorgeous view from our balcony and the room looked as if no one else had ever stayed in it. We took advantage of the grocery store right across the street and stocked up on items for breakfast and lunch. We ate dinner at the Reef's beach bar the first evening and then we tried a few other restaurants for the other nights of our stay. The balcony was in the shade after about 11am so it was lovely to sit out there and read while a nice breeze kept us cool. Everything about the room was perfect - it was all so new and clean. Everything worked properly and the kitchenette area was adequately stocked. We have been to several other Caribbean islands and so far Grand Cayman is our favorite. We will definitely go back to the Reef Resort.

The Reef Resort is a beautiful, restful place to vacation on Grand Cayman Island. The grounds and rooms were spotless, the snorkeling right on the grounds was phenomenal, and the beach was peaceful. The bartenders at the outside bar were a lot of fun, and the people were very friendly. It was a perfect and relaxing getaway.

We don't go to Mexico anymore because we can't stand being harassed about time shares and this is why we will NOT return to The Reef. We spent our trip avoiding eye contact with the sales staff that would relentlessly harass you no matter where you were. They called our room far too early in the morning, approached us during meals, and heaven forbid we enter the lobby for something because we would lose an hour while they tried to pressure us into one of their "half hour" presentations (for which their "reward" is not worth your time). We did not sit through the presentation, but I timed plenty of other peoples "half hour" presentations and the shortest I found (out of nine) was an hour and 20 minutes. There is no room service, the spa tubs are tiny, there are no glass-bottomed kayaks, and although the food is good there are so few options! Depending on who helped us the service was amazing or lousy, there was no consistency. Some of the wait staff was thorough and attentive, but the majority were forgetful, inconsistent, and hard to find. The staff frequently bickered at one another because no one was on the same page regarding activities or menu options. The housekeeping staff will "refresh" your room daily, but they only change out the sheets twice weekly. The only reason we enjoyed our trip was because we had not seen each other for three months, but had it been normal circumstances I would have been livid and gone to another resort because I feel The Reef is falsely represented on their web site.

The resort is as great as all the reviews, rooms are large, very clean, beds comfy, and the beach and pool are beautiful, but if you have a dispute on your credit card when you get home, the customer service is over. The Reef Manager must not be concerned with return customers.

Hotel is located on the quiet east side away from busy Seven Miles beach. You'll probably need a (rental) car to get there and it takes about an hour from the west side / airport with many 25 MPH speed limit towns on the south side. Hotel was very clean, well kept, beach was cleaned every morning. You can snorkel directly from the beach for perhaps not the most vivid coral formations but still lots of fish to see. Don't forget to take a trip to Stingray City !

We honeymooned at the Reef Resort. We have traveled a lot and Grand Cayman is our favorite. We felt as if we were all alone and VERY safe. VERY secluded. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean. You can sit through the time share presentation, but we just avoided them. Conciere was very helpful. We are both divers and snub our nose at snorkeling, but the snorkeling in front of the resort was fabulous! Lots of sea life and huge conch shells that you just don't see at most resorts. The beach was kept clean daily. I would recommend renting a car. If you are used to large resorts with lots of dining options, this is not one of them. The food on property was good but we went and visited the Lighthouse and our favorite was "Over the Edge". I would recommend the dive shop also. They did a great job. And don't miss swimming with the sting rays, unforgettable! The beach bar was friendly with great service, They had nightly activities to keep you entertained. But if you are looking for a lot of action, stay on Seven Mile. We made use of the grocery store across the street and stocked our kitchenette. The bed was average and I don't know how they kept all of the sand we tracked in cleaned up, but they did a fabulous job. Worked out GREAT! VERY RELAXING, VERY PRIVATE! Great views from the rooms, beautiful water and beaches. We will be back.

Needing a few days away from the world, I took myself to The Reef Resort & it was wonderful. There's just something about waking up beside the beautiful Caribbean Sea that's good for the soul... And The Reef provides the perfect setting.

If you are looking to party...this is not the place for you! If you looking to hang out with 20-30 year olds to get drunk...this is not the place for you. If you looking to snorkel right off the beach, relax in piece and quiet..the Reef is a perfect spot. Due to the coral and sea weed there isn't much swimming right outside the hotel. But the snorkeling is wonderful. Snorkeling under the pier was great. I didn't mind not being able to swim in the ocean because the snorkeling made up for it. You can't have both! Besides you can always swim in the pool. We rented a car and drove to seven mile beach for the day to swim and snorkeled. I highly recommend snorkeling at seven mile beach too. The hotel was perfect. No complaints. Clean, pretty and big enough. We are already planning to go back in a few months. I would actually like to live there!!
