To cut a very long story short and keep out personnel emotions I will write this in bullet form. We arrived on our honeymoon (and birthday) to the Pearl South Pacific expecting everything you normally expect on a honeymoon. -air condition is broken -hotel staff thought we were 'silly southerners from Australia who couldn't handle the heat' (we live in NORTH QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA (not exactly a cold part of the country)) -took 2 requests and 5 hours for them to finally change our room because of the broken air conditioning -replacement room was on the bottom floor where they were doing renovations. we had payed for a ocean room. -asked to see the manager and was told that wasn't possible -room was extremely dirty, hair on towels, dirt on floors, no furnishings apart from a bed -woke up in the morning to maintenance men standing at our window looking in -went to breakfast which we were told was going to be a full buffet breakfast, was only continental. -came back to room after breakfast to find 4 inches of water all through room -asked to see manager again, was told she was out of town. asked them to tell her to come and see us as soon as she returned that afternoon -they gave us a temporary room for the day while they fixed our original room's air conditioning -whilst laying on bed watching t.v (not fully clothed) another maintenance man climbed up onto our balcony and looked through the window at us -after 8 hours we finally got moved back to our original room -went to have shower and get dressed for dinner, shower did not work and toilet did not flush -asked AGAIN for the manager and was told she had returned that afternoon and gone straight home (did not contact us). We demanded to have her call us at 9am the following morning -9.05 the following morning we still did not hear from hotel manager Helen (Australian woman) so went to front office and did not leave until she came out to see us (20 minutes later) -she spoke down to us like we were pain in the ass customers and then proceeded to tell off the front office manager right in front of us (very unprofessional). -she told us she would organize for a seafood platter for us for dinner that night and would get our room fixed -when we got to dinner that night there wasn't anything organized and the staff treated us like shit. the seafood platter came out half an hour after we sat down (was not asked if we would like any drinks or starters, they completely ignored us). The 'seafood platter' consisted of 10 deep fried fish bites and UNPEELED THICKLY BATTERED DEEP FRIED PRAWNS! Possibly the most disgusting food we have ever eaten. -we had wanted to do our dive certificate here but instead we spent the first 48 hours getting stuffed around and then it was too late to do our certificate. -during our whole stay here the only music we heard throughout the whole hotel was dance/techno music from breakfast to dinner. -we met the owner (Australian man), he was an upper class snob and said he wanted to own an "Australian hotel on Fiji land", that's why you will find absolutely NO Fijian culture here, the staff don't even speak Fijian -this would definitely be the WORST hotel experience in my life. I am not a princess and i actually love 'roughing it' but when i pay big $ for a 5star hotel i expect to get what I'm paying for. If the hotel had of been in a better location (40 knot winds and rained the WHOLE time we were there) we would've just left and changed hotels, but it is in the middle of no where, not another hotel within 40km! -the ONLY good thing to come out of this hotel is the Mantary restaurant they have has fabulous food and staff. at the time we were there they didn't have a 'head chef' and it was just the Fijian staff cooking. the owner had said he did not want a Fijian chef as he didn't think they were good enough! Well i tell you, this Fijian cook does the best 5 star silver service meals i have ever eaten! -please do yourself a favor, do NOT believe the photo's on their website. the whole website is computerized pictures, none of them are real. the facilities are not bad but the rooms and staff and location leave a LOT to be desired for!
