Our stay at The OsborneWe were particularly impressed with the Maitre d'hotel. We did not know his name; unfortunately he was not on duty on our last day, so we could not thank him personally.

wonderful locationHave stayed at the Osborne several times over the years. Although the rooms and bathrooms need a bit of updating, they are comfortable and clean. The staff are friendly and very helpful and the location is second to none. As soon as you arrive at the Osborne you feel relaxed and on holiday.

Osborne HotelA nice hotel generally. We went away as a couple for 3 nights to explore Torquay and the surrounding area which was nice. Breakfast was excellent and we were out most of the day. We booked this hotel and paid a premium over other hotels for the leisure facilities. The indoor pool looked murky and has no natural light. You have to walk down the corridor outside the changing room to get to the sauna and the outdoor pool closed at 5pm! When we have been out all day we fancied a swim outside only to be told the pool closes at 5pm. The hotel management blamed Torbay council for needing a lifeguard and they wouldn't pay the guard till 6pm, poor I thought given the price.I also asked for a fan given the hot weather, the guy on the desk said he would try and track one down and didn't, I had to buy one myself from the local Curry's 5 miles away.We thought the whole building was the hotel but it isn't most of it is timeshare apartments. We went for a non sea view room to keep costs down and to be honest the view is of a car park and you get the staff smoking round the back and delivery vehicles coming in.We would go to Torquay again but have a sea view room somewhere else at the same price as a non sea view room here and do without the leisue facilities, such as the outdoor pool which we couldn't use anyway if out exploring and then it's closed.

Mr and Mrs Hartshorne's wedding anniversary weekendWe had our wedding reception at this hotel 5 years ago and have been back ever since. The hotel is lovely and has a great location. The only downside with this visit was the Langtrys restaurant was fully booked for Friday and Saturday night so we couldnt eat at the restaurant and because it was our anniversary we wanted to eat there. We stayed in a standard room but it was massive one of the biggest we have had there it was at the back so we didnt have sea views but we liked it.

Great service, shame about the shower! The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the service was impeccable. Food was plentiful and very good quality. The room was large and comfortable, unfortunately the shower was not 4 star quality, with a trickle of water and some mould. The early morning swim in the hotel pool was a good start to the day, but the cleanliness of the pool could have been better. Generally I was impressed with the hotel, but think the Georgian plumbing could be improved to make the bathroom more of a 4 star experience.

The good, the bad and the ugly...The Good:Location - quiet and in a nice area of TorquayStunning views from front of hotel - beautiful view across Meadfoot bayGrounds - nice terrace outside, tennis court, easy parking etc.The public areas of the hotel are well kept, comfortable and certainly live up to expectations of a 4* hotel.Good range of facilities - tennis court (and free hire of equipment), brasserie bar, bar, restaurant, nice reception area, gym.Very good customer service. We had a good night's sleep every night - no noise and it was comfortable.Impressive looking building.Breakfast was fine The bad:Our room \"Caifer\" didn't have a very nice view - overlooked a roof with cigarette butts and dead plants.Maintenance of the room - curtains didn't close properly, sash window was broken so had to be wedged open with the yellow pages, light bulb flickering the whole time, smelt of cigarette smoke and a bit musty in the bathroom. This is going to sound strange but in the bar area they had lamps on dimmers and the buzzing was so loud it almost drowned out the music!Bathroom was a bit ancient - could do with a refurbThe ugly:Cleanliness of room - dust on the skirting, dust in the bed side table, dirty carpet, dirty valance, bathroom not clean enoughSwimming pool - cold surrounding area made it unpleasant to walk from the changing rooms to the pool. A bit too cold for my liking in the pool too. But the worst was the changing room - dirty (looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day), wet everywhere and very small. Had planned to use the pool a lot but once was enough! The gym looked good though...Would I return? If the price was right possibly as it is in a wonderful position - such lovely views, and for the facilities - free tennis etc. and the terrace is great if you get the weather. Should you go there?Possibly - if you are not too fussy then I'm sure you'd enjoy your stay. However, if you are going to spend a lot of time in your room then perhaps pay the extra to

Excelent hotel only one little thing our room was above the staff room or the kitchen and early morning around 7 am we woke up for banging of the door apart from that everything was excelent the room and breakfast really nice. I highly recommended the restaurant The Brasserie the food was delicious.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was okay but cold and we had to ask for a heater which they delivered quickly. We were at the tail end of breakfast but the poached egg was like a hard boiled. Apart from these small points, would recommend this hotel.

In season the location and outlook from this hotel would make it superior, but out of season (November) when we visited, the poor standard of the room itself made this hotel a less attractive option. Our room had a rather dated and tired feel. The restaurant and brasserie were both very good however and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel would benefit from a shuttle-bus service into Torquay town centre as it's too far to walk and parking in the town is difficult and expensive.

An absolutely superb hotel. Excellent value for money. Exceptional staff. Fantastic views across the sea. Highly recommended.

The room allocated was two, verging on three, star quality. It was approx 10x10', plus bathroom, paper peeling from walls, chipped cups and dismal view. After reluctant complaint to duty manager he offered three alternatives, one of which - on extra payment - we accepted and were very happy wioth the room and facilities. He handled the situation very well, but the allocated room was pretty bad, and far from what could be expected from a four star hotel.

About a fifteen minute walk from the town although not an issue as plenty of parking available in town. Nice outdoor heated pool although indoor heated pool was quite cold. Gym was very good. A little weird that you need to reserve a table for dinner even in the brasserie and there was no prior warning of this. Makeom with a sea view as some of the rooms at the back are above the kitchens and hence quite noisy early in the morning. Very good hotel overall and look forward to revisiting.

wow what a meal on the first night, great service amd great food .... we will be talking about it for weeks! Made up for the weather which was v.poor. The view from the restaurant is an un-interupted sea panorama. In door pool was good to have but did fill up.
