Very nice and beautifulReasonably priced hotel with nice bed and bathroom. Bus-stop is nearby, so it is easy to buy a day-pass for bus and move around the city. Overall, I can say that it is a good value for money.

There is no specific parking available for this hotel. We parked in the street but we arrived on a Sunday when weekend parking applied, no fee, and we left very early (6AM) on Monday so we managed to avoid having to pay for our parking. Because this hotel is in more of a residential area, there are no restaurants within walking distance. But we drove only about 5 minutes and found several choices of eateries. The bed in the Sabu room was excellent. There is no elevator in this hotel and we were on the third floor.

Quirky and value for moneyThe lounge was fun, the breakfast simple continental, the boiler downstairs made noises that weren't too bad. I thought it good value for money, at what was shown as a very reduced rate on this site.

The Original Raj HotelI have used the hotel three times now in total and have enjoyed each stay very much. The customer service is very good and the rooms are excellent - very clean and spacious.

Great hotel with an original style of it's ownReally enjoyed a peaceful romantic break at this hotel. Staff friendly and helpful on the whole. Room pleasant, good shower and we really liked the Indian furnishings and canopied king size bed.We had requested earl gray tea in the room and as I am vegan, soya milk to have with breakfast. There appeared to have been no attempt to meet these requests and no interest in doing so or appology for not having done so.Location 10min walk from Haymarket and on bus routes, including the 100 from airport, was convenient for us.I don't wish to seem negative as we had a good time, liked the hotel and would recomend it to others.

friendly staff and atmosphere. 5 minutes walk from Haymarket station. Good location. On main bus route to city centre or out to Zoo. Evening meal not available in hotel but 5 minute walk to Roseburn where there are 2 restaurants/takeaways/chippie, or back towards Haymarket where there are plenty of places to eat. Continental breakfast only in morning. Decor Indian (Rajasthan/Jaipur) and fun, but the seats at breakfast tables very low. Very good value for money for the location.

Our room was very nice with authentic Indian furniture and decoration which made the hotel more unique than other hotels. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful when we arrived and when asking for directions. The only problem was that the shower in our room did not have a temperature gauge so the water was too hot to use but there was a bath.Overall I enjoyed staying at the hotel.

Room not suitable for useThe room I stayed in (top of stairs on 2nd floor) is not suitable to be let. It is beside/above the boiler and the boiler cuts in and out every couple of minutes. Even with my noise cancelling headphones I could still hear this and as such had a very poor nights sleep.I had a large case as I was going away for over a week and was offered no help getting this case together with my bags up to the 2nd floor.

A nice touch in a very convenient locationI only stayed one short night due to last-minute travel arrangements. General ambience is good and the breakfast, though continental only, was varied and fresh. The location is excellent, being on the bus route to the airport and within walking distance of Haymarket station. The room itself, was nicely decorated and of a good size, but had seen better days in places. All in all though, good value for money and excellent, efficient service.

Excellent West End hotel - 15 mins walk from the centre high quality budget accomodation in a different style - continental breakfast highly recommended for those of us who really shouldn't eat bacon & eggs every day. A decent desk area in the room, good freeview LCD TV, a proper bath with shower, and a glass (not plastic beaker) in the bathroom. The downside - no pubs/restaurants close by to eat out - you need to go back into the centre or get a takeaway delivered.

Original Raj HotelHotel was in an exellent location with a bus stop outside with regular buses to the city. The hotel is lso ashort walf from the Haymrket train station. We had a ground floor suie for our stay which was more then adequate. My only fault with the room is that the spare bed looked a bit random in the corner, I thought this could have been presented better. The breakfast whilst adequate was a bit limited. The quasonts could hve been in a bit better condition but other than that it was fine. The only other comment is that the left luggage facility was not very secre. Or bags were just left in th reception area and not locked away.A decent base for a trip to Edinburgh.

India meets Edinburgh! When looking for a deal in Edinburgh for the weekend the Raj Hotel is one of the best offers to be had at the moment, with good value for money and a nice place to stay. We found that the staff were both pleasant and helpfull when it came to checking in and offering information. The room was a mix of old and new, with traditional Indian bed,and desk with a very modern flat screen tv. The bed was comfy and even with no curtains (just blinds) a good nights sleep was had by all. The only downsides of the room were that since the hotel is basically an old house, the plumbing and shower are a bit out of date compared to chain hotels,we found flushing the toilet caused vibrations coming from the water tank also the shower seemed to be at its hottest first thing and last thing at night, with only one person really getting a hot shower at either time(this could well have been due to others showering at the same time though) There were also quite alot of creaks and groans coming from the floor boards but again since it was an older building it was to be expected. I would recommend that the rooms get a facelift in the near future as there were quite a few cracks in the ceiling where paint was flicked off, also 2 of the lights didnt work(although we didnt report this at the time im sure the bulbs would have been changed) The buffet breakfast was very nice and there was quite a bit of variety from cereals to fresh fruits, there was also tea coffee and juices and im sure if you requested something that wasnt there it could be made available. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

Indian Rooms, but no Indian FoodWe recently stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and had an enjoyable time. For starters, the Indian-themed rooms are exceptionally well done and really evoke the feeling of being in India. Having visited India myself recently, I can attest to this whole-heartedly and it evoked nice memories. Also, the rooms are spacious and there was a very large wall-mounted flat screen TV in ours, complete with a digital receiver. The room was also exceptionally quiet - we heard neither the street, which is about 50 yards from the hotel anyway, nor any neighbours. The service was also very friendly. What the hotel could improve on is the quality of the breakfast. Just the night before, we stayed in a lovely BnB in York and the breakfast there was freshly prepared. In this hotel, however, the food didn't seem fresh (especially the toast and the croissants) and there were no Indian breakfast options at all - just the usual Continental breakfast range. All in all, given the Indian theme of the hotel and its affordable price, highly recommended.

Overall great; really nice furniture and the room was big. Only niggle really was the bedding. Not unpleasent, just odd and old fashioned. Food basic but nothing wrong with it.

Didin't have breakfast this time but in the past it has been fine. This is the third time I have stayed here and I will do so again. The value is incredible, the rooms are lovely, and the staff are so nice. What a find! I've recommended it many times already.
