We visit Portland every year for the Waterfront Blues Festival. With this year's soaring temps, it was imperative to stay at a nearby hotel we could get back to in between performances. At first we were a bit skeptical of the location--only a 10 minute walk from the Waterfront, but in a very busy area. However, after telling the management about my husband's insomnia, we were put in a very quiet room facing the river. The hotel itself was beautiful, and we found the fitness room to be quite efficient (never had to wait to get on a treadmill). The room was large and lovely (it was not a suite, but still a great size). My only complaint was that there wasn't very much storage space (I like to unpack my suitcases). Really, that's a very small complaint. I did get a great price on a Club Floor Room ($158 for 2 queen bed room), but I would probably stay even at the hotel's regular prices. If you are on the club floor, you have access to their club room, which provided very good snacks throughout the day and desserts in the evening. The rooms don't have coffeemakers, but there is always someone in the club room to get you coffee if it isn't out on the counter. The club room also provides complimentary spirits...mimosas in the morning, martinis in the evening, coffee nudge at night?--we didn't go that crazy, but it was nice to stop in from the heat for a beverage whether with or without alcohol. Other reviewers found the club room very busy. We were there on 4th of July weekend and never had to wait for a seat. The service wasn't super fast, but it is meant to be a place to relax, and the staff does a lovely job taking care of you. My husband notified the front desk that it was our anniversary. He ordered roses, which were in the room when we arrived (and were gorgeous!). They also added chocolate covered cherries for the occasion. I found the front desk to be very helpful both when I called before we arrived and with any questions we had during our stay. I did think the v

This hotel was nice, but not really worthy of five stars. The room was an upscale box. The room had very nice fixtures and television, but was essentially a dark cavern. This hotel is very well located and we had a great experience there, but by no means a five star experience. This is not really a luxury hotel.

THis hotel went beyond my expectations. Very friendly welcome staff at all levels. Work-out room was classy, stocked with water, head-sets for the tv's on the machines and very clean. Rooms were a bit small, but didn't matter, nice amenities and bathroom more then made up for the small living space. Restaurant, Urban Farmer has a fun happy hour! A variety of cheap eats, as well as their own Moonshine :-) Would suggest parking at the smart park one block east, only $17 for an overnight! Will stay here again!

I had stayed at the Nines a few months back and had a great experience. I had a reservation at another hotel and changed it to the Nines. I was VERY UNHAPPY to learn that you do not get hotel points toward a rewards night if you book on Orbitz.... don't pre-pay if you want to collect points for your stay. I didn't see any sort of warning on Orbitz and wasn't told this when I called the hotel. Also, I couldn't get a late checkout (even an hour would've helped!) so my last day was a bit rushed.

Beautiful decor, comfy bed. Restaurant overpriced.

There is much to love about this hotel, especially it's proximity to restaurants and shopping, its lofty location starting on eighth floor of a landmark building and its modern sophistication with a Tiffany's color palette. The rooms are very comfortable with awesome huge windows that overlook downtown Portland. The fitness room is one of the best I've ever encountered, better than many five star hotels. In fact, all of the amenities are here except the ones you expect: the rooms are noisy (street sounds, slamming doors and elevators) so bring your ear plugs, and worst of all no coffeemakers in the room. This seems absurd in a city known for its craft beaneries. I guess they think we'll slob up the place. My daughter, who paid the bill, couldn't believe the $15 total they charged for a pot of coffee delivered via room service. That alone will send us to the equally nice but quieter and coffeemaker included hotel across the town square from the NInes.

We cannot say enough about the staff and how they made our trip to Portland great. The location was perfect. The only issue I had was the hidden costs. Great stay

I've been to many a 3 - 5 star hotel; the Nines is a conglomeration of size, comfort, luxury, art, and swankiness. It is right in the middle of everything. I stayed there during the Winter Ale Fest in early Dec. From the luxurious large, marble bath, with a height adjustable premium plumbing in the shower to the comfortable beds, I felt a bit closer to heaven. I am a Starwood member and the Nines is a nice addition to the collection. If you want swanky and less luxurious, and a bit closer to the airport, try the W Aloft at the airport. I stayed there back in November. It is hipper and for the younger set -- or at least the younger mindset. It is less expensive than the Nines as well and doesn't offer some of the same amenities, but there is a bar in the lobby, and there's Cascades Station where you can get eats and do some shopping. I would stay at the Nines again -- most especially if I can get free parking at the hotel!!! If I were wealthy, I'd consider staying there for a month in the warmer months.

THIS WAS OUR FIRST STAY AT "THE NINES" IN PORTLAND. WE LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! OUR ROOM WAS FANTASTIC AND SUPER QUIET. HOWEVER, WE DID HEAR FROM OTHER GUESTS THAT WERE UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO BE BOOKED INTO ROOMS NEAR THE VERY POPULAR NIGHT CLUB ON THE 15th FLOOR. SO IF YOU'RE BOOKING HERE REMEMBER TO REQUEST A ROOM FAR AWAY FROM THE NIGHT CLUB. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

Fabulous decor, liked the layout of the bar/restaurant. Service of Tyler, the desk manager. The hotel itself was lovely, well appointed, and trendy.

Fantastic stay. Club Floor is well worth the upgrade; fabulous service and food/beverage. Hotel's new restaurant/bar ("Departures") is a highlight. Hotel location can't be beat. And even though you're staying in the heart of the city, the rooms are supremely quiet.

Beautiful art/decorations. Great bathrooms. Everything was great. The location and ambiance was great. I would recommend this hotel and intend to stay there if I go back to Portland.

The hotel is very nice, very modern and a nice getaway for adults. Not really very kid friendly, generally more for business or adult travelers trying to get away. The amenities are pretty good. Very nice bathrooms made in marble tile, but a very narrow shower in a huge bathroom makes no sense. Also there is no bathroom fan. One of the lights in the room is burned out. The prices are also very very high for food in room and the restaurant, which if you stay at hotels like this all the time is no surprise. I have been at much less expensive hotels that are the same size and relative quality but food and amenities are much less expensive. Although I do think it is a bit pricey for what you get, it is a fun experience and the hotel is laid out quite nicely.

Very modern, clean, and fun. Nothing. Hands down the best hotel I have ever stayed at, and perhaps, the best hotel I will ever stay at. It doesn't have the usual hotel feel that I am used to, it has a much better, more comfortable feel.

Flat screen TV and good room service food. Snobby atmosphere, very cold. If you want a pretentious place in a great location, this is your spot. Very cold decor and extremely rude valets. Just not a great place at all. Overpriced. Would not stay there again. The window in the room facing the atrium would not close all the way and the atrium bar/restaurant gets quite loud at night. Look for somewhere else to stay.

The Nines was beautiful and the service was terrific. We were missing hand soap, but it was brought right up. Nice restaurant on the premises. The menu doesn't cater to vegetarians, but we found plenty of really tasty side dishes to fill us up. I was particularly fond of the lobby (expansive, elegant and restful). The spa needs a pool or soaking tub otherwise even the fitness center was well appointed.
