Old hotel. Bathroom was too small to be comfortable. The shower/toilet area in room was so small that they had to carve the door to close past the toilet.

10 minutes walk from the whitehouse and the federal triangle, 5 minutes from a subway station and close to the historic georgetown district. the hotel was superb, clean, spacious, staff were very helpful. one of the best hotels we've stayed in, would highly recommend.

Not to be a snob, but as an attorney I get to stay in a lot of very respectable places. This was not one of them. I was visiting a firm almost right across the street for a couple of days and it was almost a comedy of errors. My check in was delayed because there wasn't a room available and once there was a room it stunk like cigarette smoke(the worst) so I called down to the front desk and they told me to come down and get reassigned(there was no bellman available at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday to bring me a new key. The new room was on a different floor and didn't have the cigarette smell but definitely was a moldy smell in the room and I brought that to housekeeping's attention and they sent someone(who didn't speak english) to my room to spray air freshener!! Linens were very dated in color and design. Wanted to go for a run and it was extremely hot and humid outside, so I figured I'd settle on a treadmill. Got to the "gym" and THE treadmill was broken. 10 x 10 room with four pieces of equipment is what they call a gym. Can you say misrepresentation? Went to the bar one evening with a colleague, which I have to say was relaxing, except to have to listen to the bartender and one of the waitresses complaining for 30 minutes about their boss. For the money it just was not a good value.

I appreciate a good bed. I travel a ton so when I get into bed I'm usually appreciative in being enveloped in the comfort of nice fabric and softness. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The most uncomfortable bed that I've ever slept in. I don't know if the mattress' there are just old or what, but by far the worst night of sleep that I've had this year(with over 50 night this years spent in hotels. My check-in was the start of a bad experience. The front desk is very tiny(literally a desk) so not many workers can check-in at one time, thus if you get a couple people arriving at the same time off of an airport shuttle(like me) your wait will be extensive. My dinner in the hotel restaurant was hotel food...enough said and certainly nothing to make you want to return to the restaurant. Even the coffee was bad(but luckily there is a starbucks not too far away.

The fees for use of the room telephone are pure robbery. The hotel brochure should clearly indicate that a local call will cost the customer $1 per call (other top hotels in DC do not charge for local calls). And when I misdialed a number and a hotel employee answered instead, that was also charged $1. Worst is the less-than-2-minutes call I made to a number in Seattle; I was charged $23.50 for this, even if the hotel brochure indicated that a surcharge of $6.50 was to be paid for long distance calls. What a dishonest and deceptive system. No wonder the hotel puts 2 telephone units in the room. Advice to prospective guests: keep away from those trecherous room telephones!

Due to an airline delay I arrived at my hotel a block away and was placed here. In town for work. I entered that headline only because even though something may appear one way, it still is what it is beneath the many layers. The hotel is in disrepair. You can tell hallways/woodwork and rooms have received many layers of paint over the years but that doesn't necessarily make it a clean place. Dirty hallways, stairwells were disgusting. My room smelled of mold/mildew and when I complained, they brought up and sprayed air freshener...again, covering up a problem and not resolving it. I tried to use the "gym" and one of the three pieces of equipment that were working, broke while I was using it. Staff poorly trained and food, for the price, was subpar...rarely greeted except for a great doorman.

Overall, the location makes this hotel ideal when visiting DC. It's a short walk from most attractions, and convenient to Georgetown. With some upgrades, including a more comfortable bed, it would have been excellent.

It is a nice hotel. Yes, there is a refrigerator, inside the desk (another reviewer said there was none). The bed and room were extremely comfortable. There is a buffet breakfast downstairs. The gym is tiny and embarassing, but the hotel is near some lovely jogging paths (you can run to the zoo for example). My only problem was that wake up calls either didn't come or came at the wrong time. They can fix that. I would stay here again without hesitation.

This is a great location for visitors and business travelers to Washington, DC. Georgetown, the metro, and major sites on the mall are all within walking distance. While the parking valets left a bit to be desired on arrival, once you enter the hotel, the experience improves. This is a small hotel, but the decor is lovely and well maintained. The front desk staff members were friendly and helpful. The lovely decor extends to the halls and the rooms. The bedding is great!

The room was very nice. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was nice and clean. The desk was very useful and the room itself was very big. However, there was no fridge or microwave and the television did not have alot of channels

It is a lovely hotel in a prime location. Restaurants did not offer a great variety and the prices were rather high. Not a very family friendly hotel, but very nice. I would stay at this hotel again.

I'm used to friendly desk staff in a hotel of this caliber. DC is huge and I tried to get directions from several persons with no results. Room was nice but had an odor to it. All else went ok.

We had a great stay at The Melrose Hotel. The staff was excellent and the room was great. The only thing that we didn't like was their was no pool. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in DC.

Hotel was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. You pay for everything else from local phone calls(1.00 ea) to valet parking only (38.00) daily. Not much else but a room and very expensive restaurant. Ice machine on floor never worked during our stay. Staff entered hotel room when our teenage daughter was there by herself (they let themselves in) and they changed the TV channel that she was watching to see something on another station. Staff was male. Hotel is close to Metro and Georgetown.

Surprised to read in literature that hotel was upgraded only a few years ago - had to ask for extra pillows which were awful; seems like they came from some sale!
