KenilworthI really liked this Hotel. The staff were really friendly and the room was spacious and clean.I ate in the Tapas restaurant and the prawns were excellent. Breakfast was good also. The bar had a really pleasant Spanish feel about it and with the weather as it was on the dayI stayed it was a pleasure to be able to move to the outside area.Jesmond is a cosmopolitan area and this hotel fits in very well.

A fantastic, Individual Hotel. This was my second visit to the Kenilworth and I love the individuality of the place. It is far removed from the corporate chains which i usually find myself in when travelling on business. It has a real family feel to it almost like a seaside guesthouse and ther service from the staff and management is excellent. The kenilworth also offers something different in the way of food. Rather than standard hotel fayre the restaurant is a genuine Spanish Tapas bar with good portions at very good prices. OK this hotel does not have all the amenities associated with some of the large chains but more than makes up for that in the very freindly, informal air of the place, excellent food and fantastic prices.

Newly decorated rooms and flat screen TV a bonus. Reasonably good parking at the rear - VERY important for location. Very friendly and welcoming staff, breakfast supplied was excellent. Great location in a popular area of Newcastle.

Kenilworth HotelNice size room at the front of the hotel, no telephone in the room and the bathroom was pretty old and a bit grubby. For a 2 night business trip it was fine.

The room was alright for an overnight stay, but my room was above the kitchen and hence stank of putrid grease. The hotel claims both on late rooms and in their own literature to have a 32 channel digital tv in every room. My room had a 4 channel (not too good reception) terrestrial tv in it, which I had to turn up full to drown out the spanish music eminating from the restaurant and the conversations the kitchen staff were having outside my window whilst on a fag break. The bathroom was quite dated and could have been cleaner.. The shower tray didn't drain properly, so you had to stop the shower every minute and let the water out so that the tray didn't overflow. On arrival I walked throught the back entrance from the carpark past a number of plastic containers full of defrosting food for the restaurant - I made a mental note to eat elsewhere. The staff were very nice and helpful and the breakfast was good. I was even allowed to leave my car in the carpark all day after I'd checked out.

For the price it was borderline, but not idealCar park at rear and entrance past kitchens and into restaurant, check in at the bar. Was assigned room 1 good sized double on 1st floor. When I arrived the room smelled of grease from kitchen below, closed windows and hoped it would clear. It didn't and the smell persisted all night, sound system from restaurant below was loud n clear till 11pm as was the kitchen extractor fan. Bed was fine, shower a poor effort and room finish - well enthusiastic DIY standard. Freeview box on the 14" DVD combi mounted impossibly close to the ceiling- can't help but wonder where the 28" in the car park had been. Slept fine once the kitchen closed and it got quiet, and a nice breakfast in the morning.I had dinner downstairs (Tapas) the mains arrived - the starter was forgotten then arrived as a half raw baguette smeared with tomato seeds - so sign of the garlic, onion and parsley (it's green guys cannot hide) Bleh. Chicken was reasonable quality and nice - Paella was dry and unexciting - lemon tart was basic bought in catering fodder - whatever the home made items were (none on the blackboard) it wasn't one of them - vaguely lemon. The place was clean enough and if you are planning a night out in Newcastle it would be a decent base, and good breakfast but not a business destination, if you want an early night and worry your clothes may smell of fried food the next day. I would worry in the summer the adjacent hotel bar outdoor areas could be loud as well. Located in a strange area - looks like student bars area but the local estate agent had houses at 1.2M and the hotel with an indian name wanted £9 for scallops as a starter.

JadedThe room was dominated by a huge four-poster bed which unfortunately sagged too much in the middle. The bedding smelt of the Tapas downstairs. The ensuite contained grey enamel. There was mould in the shower. Having made these comments, I have to say that the staff were friendly and at half tarriff, it wasn't bad value. The resturant was lovely!

A Really Nice Hotel, Location Great, Staff GreatBooked this hotel for a 2 night stay over the bank holiday. The staff were really friendly and could not do enough for you. Rooms were clean, tidy and spacious; it’s an ideal hotel for a break. We did not try the tapas restaurant below but it looked good, although we did have breakfast each day and that was great. Ideal location, the street where located was buzzing, and so was the bar downstairs had a great weekend. Thanks for making a good weekend better.

Brilliant HotelThis was the second time we stayed in this hotel. Once again, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, including changing my room when I was fussy enough to prefer a bath to a shower. The room was spacious and warm. After eating in the restaurant my partner and I decided to check out the other pubs in Jesmond, but returned straight away, as the ambience in the Kenilworth was far superior to any of the other establishments. Having its own car park to the rear was invaluable, as parking in the Jesmond area is very limited.

Nice hotelComfortable room, nice en-suite, Excellent breakfast, Good bar meals. The Wi Fi strength was a little weak, but i managed to get online. The only complaint (and it is NOT the fault of the hotel) was that it was very noisy Friday night due to all the young Clubbers /groups of boys wandering up and down shouting up until 2pm, then it went quiet till 4pm when they returned from their respective clubs. This hotel would be great for a group of friends intending to party till the early hours, will recommend it to my youngsters for a city break.Unfortunately I was on a course and needed my sleep, so not quite suitable for me.

An Oasis!!An absolute delight of a find! Staying in Newcastle on business, we booked into the Kenilworth and as soon as we walked in we knew we'd booked the right place. Friendly, attentive staff under the watchful eye of the proprietor, checked us in and showed us to our rooms. When coming back downstairs that evening, the fantastic bar area really looked impressive: large black leather sofas, glass and leather tables, grey slate floor, good lighting created the ambience, the impressive spanish beers on draught finishing it off nicely! The best surprise was the beautiful authentic spanish tapas restaurant within the hotel - fantastic food, really good atmosphere, authentic spanish feel to the place (including spanish staff). The heated, covered patio at the front finishes off the cafe/bar atmosphere nicely. Can't wait until we are working in Newcastle in a few weeks time to re-visit. All in all, a wonderful hotel.

BoxroomIt would need to be a very small box that fitted into this tiny, tiny room. I'msurprised that this can legally be offered as an hotel bedroom

We stayed in Room 1. The bedroom was very nice. The ensuite bathroom was quite dated in style and features BUT it was clean... just not very good. Certainly not consistent with the quality of the bedroom. The shower was rubbish, like being under a tap whist not draining so your feet had a little bath. The room was at the back of the building, near the kitchen of the downstairs restaurant. So there was a permanent smell of used cooking oil. Subsequently all of our clothes now stink of used cooking oil. Not pleasant. I noticed this straight away but we were in a rush to get out to an evening party. The next morning it was clear that any items that had spent any time in the room now stank! The breakfast was average at best. The orange juice was actually orange squash. The tea was nice though. The staff were very nice. It had its own car-park too which was useful. If you want somewhere to sleep with a nice bedroom, a not-so nice bathroom and like the smell of cooking oil, then Room 1 is the place for you. It's a shame because these little things ruined the experience.

The appearance of the hotel on entering from the car park at the back was slightly off-putting as it looked scruffy, but it's an old building so we were keen to get an overall view. This area could do with a spruce up to give a better first impression. The Manager was extremely friendly, courteous and helpful when we checked in. Our room was fine; fabrics used in the bedding and curtains were very nice and there was a radiator that we adjusted ourselves. The bathroom was adequate and would benefit from an overhaul, but wasn't too bad. Little, more luxurious touches would bring the hotel up in standard such as better quality shampoo/bath gel/biscuits for the tea/coffee etc, and a flip top bin in the bathroom rather than the current one. However, there was plenty of hot water, the towels were lovely and bright white and the bed was extremely comfortable. There is also free wi-fi access which was great. We also ate in the Tapas Bar Restaurant as our main meal of the day and this was delicious. There was a great, buzzy atmosphere in the Restaurant and it was clear that it is a poplular venue. The breakfast was included in the price and perfectly acceptable; fresh fruit, cereals, fruit juice, plenty of hot toast, good cooked breakfast.Overall we had a good nights stay with the Kenilworth and I would recommend it for a short stay in a small hotel if you want to watch the pennies a bit.

The accomodation was so dissapointing on arrival. The resturant downstairs was lovely, but if even half the effort put into the resturant was put into the rooms, it would at least be an enjoyable stay. The bed linen was dirty, the bath room has two hand towels only, televison wasn't work....etc. Definitly wouldnt recommend this hotel.

Didn't help they'd just reopned. A bit disorganised at reception especially about room cancellations and ammendments, did get sorted in the end though. Rooms were clean and tidy. Breakfast was good.
