Location Description:
Union Square itself hosts art shows, lunchtime opera, last-minute rock concerts, and the city's annual Christmas tree. If you like a morning walk, step out our door to the corner of Post and Powell. Walk down the diagonal path through Union Square's center, heading for Neiman Marcus. Half a block to your left you'll discover the entrance to Maiden Lane, a delightful two-block side street of exclusive boutiques. The inside of the Frank Lloyd Wright building at 140 Maiden Lane is a study for his interior for the Guggenheim Museum. If you?re coming in from dinner, take a few minutes to walk a block down Post to Tiffany & Co. Their window designers display extraordinary creativity on their very small scale. Stop in the bookstore on the way back; it's open until 11 pm.

Very nice hotel. Staff was excellent. Comfortable rooms. Carpets could have been cleaner. Great location. We enjoyed our stay here.

We stayed three nights, the room was clean and quiet. The bed was quite comfortable. The morning breakfast was very nice, served in the lounge at the end of the hall. In the evening, there was wine, cheese and crackers, also at the lounge. The only drawback was that there was no view. We looked out at the rooftop units of the building next door. The hotel is located at the heart of Union Square, close to shopping and public transportation. A five minute walk to Union Square and you can get a Muni-Pass to take the cable car to Fishermans Wharf and Chinatown. Restaurants and delicatessens and diners are all close. The staff will make you reservations if you like. The staff was friendly and helpful and well informed. Check in and Check out were a breeze. Overall we had a great time and would stay again.

This was a great hotel in a fantastic location. The staff were very friendly and helpul. Lots of nice comps, including a wine hour, business center to print boarding passes, in-room wifi at no extra charge, and free breakfast.

We were a little weary of the Inn at Union Square because it was an unknown entity but couldn't beat the price to decided to try it for one night and stayed at the St. Francis the other night. I much prefered the Inn at Union Square and it was cheaper. Despite being in a very bustling part of town, it was a very quiet retreat. The room was great, bed very comfortable and a good shower (I judge all hotels on the shower). The wine & cheese hour and the fantastic continental breakfast were a delightful addition to an already great hotel. Definitely pick this over the St. Francis if you want a little more charm.

I visit San Francisco very often and have always wanted to try The Inn at Union Square. It has a great location. The room was small. The room faced a brick wall, no problem since I wasn't looking for a view, just a good night's sleep. I got neither. In the passage way below the room was some sort of compressor or fan -- the noise was obtrusive and loud despite even with the window closed (note there is no AC or ventilation other than a ceiling fan) Being able to have the window open in the small room was important. The final straw was at 5 AM when someone on the hotel staff kept wheeling a squeaky cart up and down the hall for 30 minutes. I can't begin to tell you how happy I was to check out of the hotel -- at least that was fast and efficient.

My husband and I had just 36 hours to explore San Francisco and discoverd this quaint little Inn adjacent to Union Square, near downtown. After reading numerous positive reviews, we decided to book our 2-night stay here and were VERY pleasantly surprised. The Inn at Union Square was a quiet, safe and comfortable retreat after spending hours sightseeing. The Inn's small, dark green building is tucked in amongst mega hotels and skyscrapers, but once we walked through the front doors, we felt as though the hustle and bustle of SF had been left behind. The rooms were small, but lavishly decorated and contained everything we needed for our stay. The beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable and were a welcome to our tired feet and aching muscles! The breakfast room on each floor was a nice added bonus. We started our day there with great coffee and a pastry, then headed out to explore. The location of the Inn is wonderful --- 3 blocks from the BART Powell St. station --- 1/2 block from the cable car route --- 2 blocks from the car rental companies --- walking distance to the Embarcadero and the Ferry Building --- 1/2 block from Union Square. The staff was friendly, professional and very helpful. We were looking for a nice place to eat and the concierge gave us a list of his personal favorites. Most restaurants were within walking distance and a couple were within 1 block of the Inn. If you're looking for a modern, fast-paced, glitzy hotel...the Inn would not be your "cup of tea". However, if you're seeking a quiet, comfortable and safe place to stay (that is very reasonable priced) then I think that you'd enjoy the Inn at Union Square. I know that we did!

Room comfortable;though somewhat crowded. Little information in the room re local attractions, though might have been available at the front desk. Bathroom antiquated. For instance. one towel rack for bath towels, hand towels and washcloths. Little space for dopp kits, cosmetics and 'womanly' items. Shower small and archaic. Staff most cordial and helpful. Great location; next to Union Square and Powell/Mason cable car

My husband and I had the junior queen suite which was ideal for a two-night stay, and we would request same again. Smallish, yet comfortable bathroom, clean, and bedroom nicely furnished. Great location one half block away from Union Square. Absolutely we will stay here again. Price was right, as well!

No AC, filthy floors, noisy, even the pipes in the wall made very loud noise when the people above turned their water on. Shower was boiling hot, then abruptly ice cold, took 40 minutes to get car our from valet. Then the guy waited for a tip after spending $36. just to park. Small residential size ice machine on two floors that were always empty. As we were checking out and in the elevator we overheard other couples complaining about the same things.

this is a lovely 30 room boutique hotel located steps away from powell street. the staff were all very pleasant and helpful, and the service was excellent. the room was small, but very clean and well-appointed. the bed was the most comfortable hotel bed i have ever slept in. the room also had a sitting area, a desk, and a 32 in flat sceen tv. the bathroom was a decent size with aveeda bath products. services included a continental breakfast, an evening wine/cheese get-together, and nightly turn-down service. the only thing missing from some of the rooms is a view since the windows face the building next store. located in the heart of union square it's excellent for shoping, dining, and transportation. i will definitely stay here again.

We recently had an opportunity to travel to san Francisco for a business trip. Neither my wife nor myself had ever been to San Fran before, so it was a good chance for us to do some exploring. We chose to stay at the Inn at Union Square due to it's location, and some recommendations that the Union Square district was a great place to stay. We found the Inn to be very nice, the staff was outstanding, directing us to some great restaurants for meals, and just being generally very courteous all around. The two biggest complaints were the lack of a pool ( we love to swim every chance we get), and the very expensive parking situation. There was public parking nearby, but at the end of the day, the valet parking was just easier, and more convenient. Unfortunately you pay the price for that convenience. Over all we had a very good stay, and we can't wait for our next trip back.

The Inn @ Union Square is a great place to relax and enjoy the wonderful city by the Bay. Their breakfast in the morning and wine hour in the evening were fantastic! The location is perfect. You are right next door to Morton's Steakhouse and all the Union Square has to offer.
