Description:
Located just behind the village of Windermere sits a secret treasure which truly lives up to its name. The Hideaway at Windermere, a restaurant with rooms, is a beautiful Victorian Lakeland home, surrounded by peace, yet in the heart of it all in the beautiful Lake District. Windermere, at 10.5 miles long, one mile wide and 220 feet deep, is the largest natural lake in England and is fed by numerous rivers. The Romans built their fort of GALAVA at its northern end (Waterhead). Bowness-on-Windermere - Lakeland's most popular holiday resort - is an excellent centre for boating activities, with over 10,000 boats registered. Until March 2005 Windermere was the only lake without a speed limit, but a 10 mph limit has now been imposed. Steamers and launches operate from Bowness Bay to Waterhead at Ambleside and Lakeside at the southern end. At the southern end is Lakeside Pier and Lakeside Station of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and also the Aquarium of the Lakes. Built in 1890, the house boasts many original Victorian features, including ornate, stone window frames and a geometric tiled hallway. Ever evolving, we blend traditional styles with contemporary influences to create a relaxed, warm & welcoming atmosphere. Within easy reach of the best of Lakeland, yet quietly tucked away from it all, The Hideaway is perfect for a weekend retreat, a mid week break, or a Lakeland get together with family & friends.

3 day stayThe hoteliers and staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful. Our thanks to Thomas who was particularly attentive - thank-you ThomasWe stayed in a room that had not been recently refurbished and although comfortable and clean we considered overpriced slightly.Having viewed several other rooms they had been very well refurbished to a high standard - so expect that will happen in time with them all

Richard & Lisa have created a very warm atmosphere in their hotel with a lovely touch of complimentary tea & cakes in the afternoon. The lounge & dining room were lovely rooms to experience the service & food , both of which were excellent. Room 8 is a nice room but the ensuite is rather small.

short break in the lakesStayed in room 7, lovely and spacious though the bathroom was a bit on the small side but the size of the bedroom more than made up for it.Quiet hotel, very pleasant staff, free home made cakes and tea in the afternoon was a welcome bonus. Would certainly stay here again.

Great hotel. Wonderful service. Excellent food. Really clean and fab, comfortable bed. Room was very tiny which is the only negative, but we knew we were getting a small room when we booked so it wasn't too unexpected. Will definitely return, to a bigger room next time!

Website suggests the hotel is decorated in a contempory style throughout - many of the bedrooms are a more standard traditional style and a little dated.Overall a very pleasant stay though..

We Had a lovely 2 night stay at the hotel, Richard & Lisa made us feel very welcome, we had an evening meal at the hotel and the food was outstanding & reasonably priced. Breakfast was also very good with a cooked meal &/or cereals etc. We stayed in room 12 ultimate comfy room The split level idea was great the room had all the mod. cons including tea & Coffee facilities Although we enjoyed the complimentary tea/coffee & cake served in the lounge each day between 3Pm & 5Pm. We would highly recommend this hotel to any one wishing a quiet stay in close-proximity to the town and with good old fashioned friendly service, We would definitely stay again

Food was exceptional and the afternoon tea & cake is a nice touch to offer to guests. The room was of a high standard but my only minor gripe was that the shower (in room 7) is not suitable for someone who is over 6ft, as you'll hit your head on the sloped sky-light ceiling!

Breakfast excellant, Most expensive room in hotel but toilet did not flush properly, had to close blind as workman had ladder up at window, TV had only four channels with picture quality acceptable on only 2 of them. Heated floor in bathroom uncomfortable in warmer weather. Only herbal tea available in room (tasted like smoky bacon flavoured tea\"
