Recently stayed at the Hartnoll Hotel and was blown away at the service, staff and decor of the place. NOTHING like we were expecting. It was a gem in the Devon countryside and only moments from the Exmoor National park, in the Exe Valley. The river ran through the property and was delightful. Our child was more than welcome, and was given colouring and some games to play with, the terrace was a sun trap, and lovely with a glass of white wine. It has undergone major renovations and was 3/4's done, but nothing was a bother to trouble and everyone was delightful.

Would consider staying - once the work is finished. The Hotel is undergoing final stages of restoration. The new decor is mixxed, with some of it feeling modern and airy. The bed room which has yet to be restored was a disapointment, peeling wall paper, assorted furniture, some of it low rent, with uncleaned sash windows. The bed was comfortable and linen fresh. The bathroom was disapointing, with the shower able to aim only as high as my chest - well it should be able to accomodate at least 6'2"!Assuming the rooms will be decorated to the same standard as the new areas, and the furniture all matches then it could deserve its £75 per night, but until then....Breakfast started at 7.30, and as I needed to get off quickly I arrived at 7.25. I had to wait 25 minutes for me scrambled egg and smoked salmon! One was cold from the fridge and the other should have taken no more than 5 minutes. It was lovely, but oh so slow!I would consider trying once more - once I knew that the rooms had been improved, and the price had not risen.

Luxurious, stylish hotel in small villageThis hotel is recently refurbished and they are just finishing off some details (the work did not produce any noise or disturbance though), the place looks really great with luxurious fabrics, furniture, very large and comfortable bed and high quality bathroom fittings. We did not have dinner there but the breakfasts were good as were the sandwiches we had for lunch one day. There is a nice conservatory and large garden too.The location is a tiny village, very pretty but no facilities in walking distance so you will have to drive or get taxis everywhere. Only a few miles from Tiverton though.

Shame...Following renovation I'm sure the hotel will be lovely as it is a beautiful building set on gorgeous grounds.. Excellent breakfast too..Unfortunately the staff were slightly rude and unfriendly at times which was a real disappointment..

Lovely placeWe stayed here as we had a wedding in the area. we arrived the day before and they upgraded our room. Beautiful room which was quite and spacious. We ate dinner in their restauarant too which was also very enjoyable. Their are other lounging type rooms with logs fires so we finished our wine there. The staff were kind enough to bring a cheese board upon our request to our room. Breakfast was delicious also. I was pleasantly surprised when we paid our bill. great value for money. The staff were very friendly and the location is ideal for a country break. Would definately go back.

I stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms and it was absolutely excellent, with one of the most comfortable beds ever. Only minor complaint was that the shower could have done with more pressure, but as they are in the process of completely refurbishing the hotel I am sure this will be resolved. The staff were unbelievably friendly and the food, (bar menu based) was very well prepared and reasonably priced. The eventual aim appears to be to create a bistro / boutique hotel atmosphere and they are progressing well with that aim.

The bar and restaurant areas are modern and inviting. Unfortunately the single room (No. 8) was small, cold and damp. Ill fitting carpets and old bedding with loose head board was not pleasing. The pillow cases were stained and should have been disposed along time ago. Elecrcal cables run across the floor in places and is not safe. I could go on....The whole room requires redecorating and the photo in the brochure regarding the quality of the rooms is misleading. For the price, the room was a rip off.

They were undergoing quite a bit of refurbishment when I stayed. This must have been a difficult period for them but I have to say the disruption was kept to an absolute minimum and did not adversely affect the enjoyment of staying here.I stay in alot of hotels with biusiness, and I can quite honesly say that I found the staff here to be amoung the very best. Everyone from the two young guys behind the bar to the receptionist, the waiting on staff, and the management managed to achieve to perfect balance between business like & ourteous, and warm &friendly. Just one minor point on the shower water not being as hot as it could have been, though probably in part due to the upgrading of the facility.I would highly recommend to all!

There were not many restaurants nearby, so eating in the hotel was definitely to be recommended.

Allowance has to be made for the fact that the hotel is undergoing major refurbishment, but the room was sparce and cold and not value for money.
