Regular stop-over variable service.Staff sometimes make me feel like I am very lucky to be allowed to stay here. After asking for superior room in which I could get a reasonable wifi signal, was told basically to not be so outrageous! I explained was on business and had work to do, was told best to use a communal area as they could not help me! However, this aside, the room service is excellent and very quick. Great choice.

Greatest stay yet at the GrangeWe have stayed at the Grange on numerous occassions over the years. This was one of my favourite yet. We have been quite unlucky in the past and have been booked into the same room. This time we stayed in one of the newly built rooms, which had a built in TV in the head of the bath. A very comfotable, pleasant room possible a little smaller than previous rooms but the high quality of fixtures and fittings made up for this.The food in the resteraunt was wonderful and reasonably priced, staff were very welcoming and pleasant.There was a bit of a wait with breakfast but having been here before this was a one off.Well worth a visit if you are planning a trip to York.

Lovely hotel, lovely staffWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grange. It was quiet, and luxurious but not formal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, about 5 minutes walk from Bootham Bar. The only very slight criticism was the breakfast. It was excellent but possibly a bit small for the big eater. Having said that I believe if you asked they would serve any amount of food. We would definitely stay here again.

Great LocationOnly stayed for one night but really liked this hotel. The location was great, say only a 6 minute walk to the city walls. Our room was very nice, great 4 poster bed!! Very clean bathroom with great shower! We will definatlely stay here again.

A must stayNot only do guests of this hotel benefit from an excellent location - a short walk into York centre - they can be assured of 5 star customer service from the helpful, sincere staff. The hotel has a personal, intimate ambience with attention to detail.

Great HotelThe hotel is quite small with 36 rooms but has lots of character and a very nice restaurant. Service is top-notch and the location only 5 mins walk from the city walls. Our room (standard double) was quite small, but really nice and with a good bathroom, I'm sure a Premier room here would be fantastic. Only thing I would change is to have a room at the back of the hotel as the road was quite noisy, especially with the windows open which was essential during the hot weather we experienced.

altough we only stayed for one night we wanted to stay for longer.we had read reviews that parking would be a problem but parked straight away, Thursday 3.00p.m. Room ready on arrival . Very helpfull staff, lovely room,close to all city atractions, would stay here again. Evening meal excellent,as was breakfast.

Birthday treat for my wife and iMy wife and i celebrated our birthdays in York by staying at the Grange hotel. We had no complaints whatsoever. Our room was a superior double room and was excellent value. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was very good. Only a few minutes walk into the city. We will definetely stay there again

Hotel in excellent location for York City Centre. Friendly atmosphere, staff were very helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was good with a variety of foods to choose from. Room was smaller than expected but was fully equipped and bathroom was spacious. The shower was lovely! The only small issue was that even though the heater was turned off the room was still very hot and we had to have the window open continuously.

The room I booked was a superior twin. Although it was clean and comfortable the decor was dated and, in my experience, I would have said it was more of a standard room, so it didn't meet expectations, which was a little disappointing. In saying that, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was good.

Extremely enjoyable stay, room and hotel was very comfortable, we were allocated a room in the new extension. Hotel is in an excellent location to explore the city centre. Food was of a good standard, but did not live up to expectations based on previous reviews. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

Not what was expectedWhen we approached the hotel myself and my husband were impressed with the facade and were looking forward to seeing our room. However our room was very disappointing, although we had a discounted rate as we booked through late rooms I still felt it was expensive for £99. There was literally no room to swing a cat. The room consisted of a very small double pushed against one wall, one small bedside table and a very small occasional chair. The TV was on the wall. The en-suite only had a shower and no bath and was very very compact!! the overall impression of the room was small and not very well kept, the carpet was grubby and looked like it needed a good clean and there was dust on most surfaces. As we arrived at the hotel late on Thursday evening the restaurant was closed, we therefore ordered two plates of sandwiches from room service. When they arrived we each had two small triangles of sandwiches made up of one round of white bread which was dry and the edges had begun to curl and a handful of crisps. For this pleasure we paid £6.50 each!!!! On the plus side the bed (although small) was comfortable. However we didn't get much sleep as we were woken early the following morning by noise from outside the room!! Basically the hotel looked lovely but the room was dismal.

A very pleasant surpriseThe setting of the Grange is perfect. It's a very short walk to the city centre. The room was spotless, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and (certainly in our 'Superior room'), everything has been carefully planned. For example , the tv was digital!! (a real find, when most british hoteliers continue to insist that any tired old 80's analogue set is adequate).My wife wishes to praise the following; large bed, large bath sheets, thick towels, feather pillows and duvet, a hair-dryer lead that reaches the mirror and (one she forgot but I would add), 2 comfy armchairs (usually we have to fight over the sole one!) The food is also excellent; plenty of yummy local prod. The staff were super too.

Lovely hotel, nice and quiet. Excellent location just a few minutes walk from the centre of York but far enough away not to hear the noise of the city centre. Would highly recommend a stay, only negative comments would be our room had a small window which didn't let in much light & the breakfast didn't come with beans!

ClubSuperb hotel from an atmosphere and service viewpoint. Had the air of a Gentlemen's club, with the public areas giving an impression of grandeur. My only adverse comment would be the lack of a lift which would be a problem for the infirm. Otherwise, a very enjoyable visit, with outstanding customer service.

Breakfast was really good value for money, loads to choose from and included in our room rate. Reception were extremely helpful and the hotel was in a great location for the city centre.

The grange was an impressive looking building and the room met this image. The service on our arrival and in the eveining was friendly and helpful although the service at breakfast could have been better. The hotel is perfectly located just a a short walk from all the major attractions and overall our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.

Long weekend breakThe room was comfortable with good facilities (tea, coffee, biscuits). It was a little on the small side, OK for a weekend but maybe not for a week.Breakfast was great loads to chose from and good quality, service was excellent.A great location for visiting York attractions, just 5 min walk the the North gate.
