The Grand Mauritian Resort & Spa

Located on the north west coast of the island in the town of Balaclava, perfectly located between the capital of Port Louis and the popular village of Grand Baie. The property sits on a small stretch of beach in the sheltered Turtle Bay adjacent to the Marine Nauture Park.

Part of Starwood's Luxury Collection, this resort is a refined and elegant addition to Mauritius. A combination of sophistication and laid-back style make this a fantastic property from which to be based. Two large pools offer ample room for sunbathing and lounging, whilst the small beach has small, intimate areas with hammocks and sunloungers. Land recreation facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness centre, two tennis courts, a Mandara spa and, for children, the Explorers Club. In addition, extensive work has recently been done on the beach area, which now boasts 700 metres of white sand beach.

The property is comprised of 15 thatched villas situated over 20 acres, housing a combination of 193 rooms. Much of the property has been built with hardwood timber and the decor is muted and natural. Two large swimming pools are situated on either side of the resort.

Deluxe rooms are spacious and are decorated with a classical feel in a palette of soft, muted colours including ivory, taupe and duck-egg blue. Each room is fitted with a flat screen television with movies on demand, iPod connection, video telephone and broadband internet connection. The marble open-plan bathrooms are large and spacious, with a separate rain shower and free-standing bathtub, and double sinks. Each room has a private terrace or balcony, all with sea views.

The lobby is large and expansive with ample seating area overlooking the pool and beach. The lobby bar is off to one side and offers guests an area to sit and unwind, whilst small boutiques line the corridor that lead out to one side of the resort.

There are three restaurants on-site, the main restaurant located just off the lobby serves breakfast, lunch and the included half-board dinner. Dinner is either a three-course menu or buffet, depending on the evening. An Italian speciality restaurant is located near one of the pools and is open for both lunch and dinner. Lastly, a casual lunch option is located near the other swimming pool.
