Rooms need a makoverMy room was supposed to be an executive room but it certainly didnt look like one. The iron was fixed to the wall next to the bed and would have been better if stored in the wardrobe. The bathroom was clean but the ceiling above the shower was stained. The toiletries were poor. The voile curtain across the window was coming away from the rod.The car park is extremely handy next door and was included in the price of the room. If you are going to have breakfast book it as part of the deal as £14.95 otherwise.

OK but many areas for improvementAn attractive looking hotel which has been subject to recent well thought out renovation. Good location in the centre of the oldest part of the city.I wasn't impressed by the reception staff. On arrrival they took an age to check me in, took a couple of calls, wandered into the back to deal with something else, leaving me standing for much longer than I think was reasonable. On departure, although I had paid for parking I found I wasn't given the necessary pass to get into the car park, which required lugging all my gear back to reception. Breakfast was expensive and poor quality - £15 for self service with some rather tired dried out cooked items on offer. Tea was lukewarm, stewed and served from a vacuum flask. Is it too much to expect a teapot?

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!Exceptionally poor customer service. No bath towels anywhere in hotel, given a bath mat instead (after 5 times of asking). No apology given. Will not be staying at this or any Thistle hotel again.

Great stay and excellent location during a busy Bristol weekend. This represented a good value for money stay in the heart of Bristol. Staff were excellent and helpful and the gym facilities were well used by us all. Easy walk to good resturants and the City Centre. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and will be restored to its former glory once completed.Clients should be made aware of the disruption when booking. But overall a great stay and location and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.

Very good hotel, and in a great location for enjoying the city centre, although the awful one-way system makes it hard to get to. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. Unfortunately the double room for two people was only set up for one person in terms of pillows and towels etc, but that's about all I can fault the hotel for. If the price is right, I'd happily stay there again.

great timei thought the hotel was fantastic and the rooms were very nice its definetly best to get ones higher up as they have been redone and ther ones we stayed in on level 3 were much nicer than the ones our friends were in on level one. i aslo found it great that even though we had booked a double room we got 2 singles for the same price :):):):):):)

Only stayed 1 night, but the Grand seems to be quite an ordinary hotel. There was little character to the room though it was clean and the air-conditioning worked well. There were very few extras included. Limited towels, had to buy our own tea-bags and milk, nearly scalded myself in the shower due to strange control system. We got a budget price (about £79) - would not have been happy paying more. Watched Wimbledon on the telly with original 1970s picture (ie grainy - thought it was McEnroe again). The main plus point was the pool which my wife used. We were actually upgraded to Executive Premier or some such - what would an ordinary room have been like? Service at reception was very friendly.

Single room sold as doubledHaving stayed at The Grand before we expected a fair sized double room but we were allocated room 430.The bed was pushed against a wall and therefore you could only get into it from one side.I think it was a 4ft bed and it dipped in the middle.Neither my wife or I are large but the bed was very uncomfortable and definately not a DOUBLE!. Every thing in the room was set up for single occupancy,1 cup,1glass,1set of towels!.More were provided on request but I couldn't help thinking we were in a single room paying for a double!.

location was briliant, right in the centre and not too far from anything. leisure club ok but jacuzzi was broken. Room nice enough but not much space for our stuff, it all got flung everywhere. lovely power shower!! There. thats teh positives. Now for the negatives. Firstly, they over charged us the rate we booked on (when challenged they stated that they couldnt see any changes so i must be the one mistaken) am about to call to complain. They took the payment immediatly from the card when it advised us it was simply to guarentee the booking. Breakfast was deplorable. firstly it was in the freezing downstairs basement, the food was stone cold and overcooked and the bread/croissants etc was stale. the juice wasnt cold and there was not much choice re cereals etc. Complained about this at reception was told that 'you booked breakfast and we couldnt have told you then the quality'. another complaint to add then.

Thistle \"the grand\" BristolHotel a little tired needs some TLC. No tea or coffee making facilities in room and room service/ bar for coffee/tea very expensive. Breakfast was very unorganized had to ask for tea, coffee but no milk provided, had to ask again. Lots of stuff run out but nothing replaced so choice not that good.

Top value for central Bristol HotelSet in the heart of the city, this hotel is perfect for exploring the whole area. We came by train with bikes and it was a breeze getting around and 5 minutes cycle from Temple Meads too. Room is basic Thistle standard but does the job perfectly. All in all, thistle seem to have it right, we stay a lot because they always just seem best value.

This hotel was situated near to Bristol Temple Meads railway station and also central to the main shopping area and the waterfront. The staff were very pleasant and were most helpful when we requested a late check out. Breakfast was not included & I was a little disappointed to find that it was included at the same price in other deals in the newspaper once I had actually booked it through laterooms.com The only other small critcisim was it was a twin bedded room but there was only enough tea/coffee facilities for one over two days. All in all however, I would well recommend the hotel

Good city centre hotelI booked this hotel for a group of 6 old university mates to use as a city base. It combines great city centre location with a nice old building. Slightly small rooms (although very effective a/c) and expensive breakfast. Having said that, I would definitely recommend.

A comfortable nights stay3 twin rooms were changed to 6 individual on arrival which made for a more relaxed stay; staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was pretty good (though I had a rubbish view), with on suite and double bed, good size tv and desk. Room and hotel were clean throughout.Without meaning to be too critical I would say that my room needed some modernising and a bit of touching up in places, but this didn't affect the enjoyment of my stay. It would however had been nice if I had more than 1 tea bag and biscuit in the room! My only real criticism would be the basement bar for a late (ish) drink, which does need some work to make it into a nice place to spend time.A good hotel in an excellent location in the centre of the city. Your sat-nav may have difficulty finding the car park though.

Great location but disappointing in some waysParking system very complicated. Staff monosyllabic unsmiling, unhelpful and distant. Snack lunch and cup of tea very ordinary and hugely overpriced - £3.75 for a cup of tea! Lots of great looking cafes in easy walking distance though.

Thistle Grand Hotel BristolThis was not my first choice and was offered as a '4 star' alternative from LateroomsStaff were surly; room was small; car park was a nightmare to get in and out; breakfast was slow; and only one member of staff on reception during peak time check-out. Only positive aspect was that the air conditioning was very powerful - however it was suited to a much larger room - I had to switch it off. Paperwork in room suggested that bath robes were available on request (but don't walk away with them) - my request was faced with a sharp 'we don't have any.' This was not a 4 star experience in any form.I should have known that most hotels called 'Grand' are genrally not - this was no exception

Nothing to write home aboutHotel was OK but stayed far nicer places - breakfast not included in price and was a complete rip off to purchase through hotel - parking was also a rip off

Theatre breakGrand hotel, only a short walk from the theatre, under going a quality refurbishment but not disturbed by that at all. Enjoyed an evening out, a quiet drink in the bar, and a good nights sleep.

Excellent ServiceJohn (I think it was john) at the front desk was excellent. We had been having an awful weekend, and my girlfriend had a sprained ankle. John was extremely pleasant, and got some ice for her right away, and though he was unable to give us some pain killers (understandably), he directed me to where I could get some easily. This experience helped turn our weekend around.Additionally, the room was a reasonable price and also quite nice. I highly recommend the Thistle Grand in Bristol.
