Comfortable hotel in a great location in the center of the city, one block from Princes Street. There is a nice bar and an excellent restaurant (the same food is available in the bar). One problem is the lack of parking. There is a discounted price in a parking garage that is a long walk from the hotel.

Overall good - but only take credit not debit card at check-in.I would recommend the George. Centrally located and wih everything you would expect - nice rooms and facilities. Breakfast on Mon am was busy - but the queue for a table moved quickly and the buffet breakfast was a higher quality than many similar hotels. One frustration was the reception's insistence on a credit rather than a visa guaranteed bank debit card on check-in. This is unusual - all other hotels we have stayed at recently have been fine with a debit card and it was just by chance that we actually had a credit card with us as well. We were told it was 'policy' but no real explanation. Our request for an extra sheet did not happen until we reminded them many hours later and there was only one receptionist when checking out at a busy time. But these are minor gripes and overall a good experience - I would stay there again.

The hotel was beautifully decorated for christmas - a real plus. We LOVED the rooms - large and clean with a neutral pleasing decor. The chrome in the bathrooms was particularly impressive. Comfy beds including pillows. The rooms were very warm - probably a little too warm for us but it seems churlish to complain! Would definitely go again!!

You might need earplugsStayed here for two nights. Given executive room on fifth floor at rear of hotel which overlooks a narrow, cobbled street. Room was excellent with views over rooftops towards Forth estuary. We sleep with windows open which didn't help with noise issue - late on in night the bar empties there bottle into what sounded like a skip with horrendous noise, occasional shouts in street echo up and from early in morning traffic rumbles along the cobbles. If you need peace and quiet to sleep well then a rear room is not for you especially if on a lower floor (I pity anyone at street level).Breakfast is as you'd expect in a "chain" hotel, rooms are well furbished and location is very handy for Princes Street. If staying in Edinburgh again I'd maybe look for other hotel but wouldn't rule this one out.

The hotel seems managed by the same host as the Russull Hotel in London. They are both history building in UK. Very comfortable.

A wonderful 2 night stay in a great hotel with a fab location. We stayed at the George Hotel for 2 nights and it was fantastic. It was 2 night break without our children so we wanted a quiet room which we got. The staff were wonderful and very helpful with any queries we had regarding car parks etc. We had breakfast on both mornings, the service and quality of food was great. Everything was kept well stocked and staff were efficient and friendly. We got a great deal through laterooms and will definitely visit the George again.

Highly recommendedThe George is our favourite hotel in Edinburgh and when there is a special offer available it is excellent value. The service, accommodation and food is consistently 4 star.

Pamper your partner packageRoom and view great and rose petals, champagne, chocolates etc all fine. However our room was not ready until 1 hour 20 mins after check in time, with a grudging apology given by a fairly obnoxious receptionist, and no offer of a drink etc to make up for our inconvenience. Although we were clearly waiting in reception to check in, she didn't even bother to tell us when the room was ready. The bar and bar staff were great, but the breakfast service was shambolic. Two out of the three receptionists we dealt with were great, but the obnoxious one spoilt our stay.

Excellent value for money when you get a deal. Prime location on George St. close to the bars and restaurants of New Town while being in 10 min. walking distance to the Royal Mile. Very nice spacious rooms and immaculate service.

Our Weekend BreakWe had a lovely stay in this hotel which is in a fantastix location. On arrival at the hotel at 1am we were met with a very helpful night porter. He helped direct us to the car park and provided us with a helpful map. Our room was of a fantastic size, with a super bed, however the room smelled of stale smoke. The room was clean, but the carpets could do with refreshing. The room we were allocated was a fair walk and climb from reception - almost like it was away in staff quarters - up in the lift, along the corridor and then down the stairs. The rest of the hotel looked great. A very welcoming reception area. Breakfast was good. We also had a meal at the Tempus restaurant and a few drinks in the bar - the meal was excellent. As part of our room deal we booked 2 nights both with 2 free glasses of chamagne and a harvey nics voucher. On arrival we were informed that we could only have this for one night of our stay (even thought we payed for it for 2 nights!!!).

RoomI booked the room 48 hrs before and got a discount from the normal price, however I was given a very small double room with hardly any space around the the bed to walk. I was fortunate to travel alone as the room would not have been big enough for two people. It was also located by the airconditioning unit which was quite noisy and no view. The room was however very modern and nicely designed/furnished with a very clean and new bathroom. Good cocktail bar next door and great hotel location for shopping and more cocktail bars.
