Description:
In the centre of Old Portsmouth and surrounded by a wealth of sea faring history, including the ferry port, you will find our bed and breakfast the most welcoming stay away from home, whatever your reason for visiting the City.Minutes from the beach and bustling harbour or a stroll past Gunwharf Quays Waterfront to HMS Warrior, we are perfectly placed - without the noise - but close to all the action. A pretty, traditional English pub with comfy, quiet accommodation so you can dip in and out of the affable atmosphere depending on what you feel like doing. When you get up, our friendly kitchen will have a fine breakfast prepared to send you on your way and will still be busy cooking should you decide to join us for a hearty dinner after your busy day.We very much look forward to welcoming you and helping to make your stay in Portsmouth a great one!

We'll be back! We anticipated noise from the bar on the weekend as our room was above the door to the bar, but it was fine. Great price for a clean no-frills room.

overall excellentwe are from london, as the area was quite but we loved the room.

We had only booked a room but when we arrived we actually had en suite (shower, basin and toilet) so that was a very welcome bonus however if you are a large person you would struggle to get into the toilet. We were made very welcome on our arrival and shown to our room. The service at breakfast was also excellent. Although the room could only be described as basic it had everything we needed and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

Avoid the Duke of BuckinghamStayed at this B&B for 3 nights and would have moved if there was other accommodation available! The hotel/pub is extremely dirty, staff are very friendly and polite however are in a poor, dirty state of dress. The bar persons had the same clothes on for 3 days which did put me off eating breakfast as did the dirty dishes. Although this accommofation is cheap I would strongly suggest you avoid booking this place, the room was tiny, dirty and smelled. Also very poor standard of shower room. I could not wait to leave as could my husband and parents. Staff nice however very poor standard of accommodation.

Great HotelThe hotel was just what we wanted. The service was great, we got there early but the staff allowed us to go to our room anyway. Also, there was a private door which we could go through, instead of having to walk through the pub each time we came in and out of the hotel, which was brilliant. The room service was great, a maid came round in the day while we were out, and gave us clean towels which we didn't expect for the price and also as we were only staying 2 days. Overall, a great experience would use the hotel in the future.

They messed up my reservation and had one room instead of two. The receptionist was serving the pub at the same time and had no time. Finally got one bigger room. The room was clean and confortable and the location is perfect too. The breakfast was superb and large.

Graduation experienceMy daughter graduated this week at Portsmouth University and this was an ideal stopover the night before, friendly, clean, good value and although parking is on the main road, you are given a permit. We really enjoyed it.

Review of two single rooms, for two nights(not four as in heading!)Firstly, my female friend in room 2, found the first night of her stay extremely noisy because of the guests in room above, or next door. She hardly managed to sleep. It was quieter the second night however.Secondly, we thought we had booked for two single rooms with en-suite, but they were not en-suite! This we feel should have been made clear well before we arrived! We probably would not stay with you any time again because of the above

Good value but left a bit to be desiredI arrived at 20:45 and was shown to my room up 2 flights of stairs. Pleased with the room, clean and excellent value. I was informed food stopped at 21:00 so hurried down. It was 21:00 exactly and was refused a meal - the chef wouldn't do any more meals (or sandwiches), and they refused to budge. I was told there was a Chinese over the road but that was closed too. So after a long days work and then travelling from Cambridge I was left to go out and find another place to eat. Disappointing.

Duke of Buck good for single female travelersSingle female travelers looking for a safe, welcoming, and friendly place to stay should consider Duke of Buckingham. Excellent check-in, helpful when needed and respectful of privacy as well. Rooms are clean and comfortable including en suite and TV. Recommend!

Superb Value for Money. Exceeded all expectations. We had two very pleasant nights at the Duke of Buckingham. Great location, a short walk to Gunwharf Quays which offers a vast choice in shopping and dining. Accommodation in this area from the major hotel brands was considerably more expensive. Our top (3rd) floor room was modern with very clean bathroom and basic dining and kitchen facilities (resembled a small apartment rather than a hotel room). Parking permit was quickly and easily sorted upon arrival. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Would certainly stay again.

(room 11) Mould in the bathroom and by the looks carpet not seen a vacuum for a while really nice clean bed which was excellent and comfy and breakfast was awesome value. However though we were advised where to park we came out on the 2nd day to find that the car had been moved !!

Could be betterTHe rooms in the cottage are fairly poor. The carpret is threadbare, there is mould in the shower.Because there are people staying upstairs the downstairs rooms are very noisy, creaking floorboards and you can even hear when the go to the toilet!

Visiting PortsmouthNice pub in the old part of portsmouth. Only a walk away from the historical shipyard. Friendly personal in the pub, the food is good and the \"duke\" is a very good value for money.I would and will come again.i

The room we were put in was one of four in a purpose built mews cottage with ensuite in a lane at the side of the pub. The room and bathroom were tastefully furnished and very comfortable. We had a good breakfast in the pub the next day. Very good location in Old Portsmouth. We would definitely stay here again, especially if you could request the mews cottage accommodation, I dont know what rooms would be like in the actual pub.
