Horrible crown at worthington!I booked this hotel as was attending a wedding the following day and my husband and I were both looking forward to a weekend away. Before booking, I looked on the hotel website and was impressed by the photographs of contemporary looking rooms and decent food. On arrival I was less impressed with the outside of the pub - peeling paint! We entered the crown and were met by the smell of stale beer! We were told that we were in room 3 and were given our key. The room itself was nothing like the photograph on the website - tiny, strange paint design on the walls and miniscule bathroom with archaic looking shower. I later took a shower and found that I could have it freezing cold or boiling hot but nothing in between! The plughole was also blocked which meant that the water rose up the shower tray - disgusting! We ventured downstairs for something to eat but were put off by the stained, sticky tables and dirty chairs in the bar area! To top it all off, I tried to make a cup of tea the next morning and discovered that the kettle was broken! Extremely disappointing!

I found the hotel to be perfect for my business trip. Food and accomodation was first class and the staff are obviously well trained by the two owners.

This hotel would have received higher scores from me if the owner was a little less stubborn/arrogant at check out.We booked this stay in September 2007. Since then, the rates had gone up. Even with my confirmation/printout the owner was not willing to accept payment at the rate we had booked, blaming Laterooms for getting it wrong. After I queried when the rates went up he smugly replied January. I was happy to show him the confirmation date of September 2007 to which he unhappily accepted payment for which I had booked. There was no apology and this guy was seriously anglry, muttering under his breath that he should have tripled the price of the room (being The Open golf weekend at Southport). He really put a dampener on our stay. The food was OK and the bathroom was fairly clean. I just dont get it why these sort of places never seem to thoroughly clean their bathrooms. Seeing other people's hairs in corners of the bathroom/shower is not acceptable in my opinion. I am not fussy and never complain but this constantly amazes me. Lazy cleaners...

IThe hotel was difficult to find.Sighns in the town may be helpful to future guests.Hotel when we eventually found it is in a lovely spot. The room was nicely furnished. The bathroom, especially the shower was in need of a good clean

An old-fashioned pub-type, country hotel. Friendly without being pretensious. A little out of the way but worth the effort. Rooms as good as could be expected in this type of establishment. Decor a little tired but everything needed was provided and clean.Evening meal was excellent in all aspects, choice, quality and value. Breakfast was limited in choice but excellent value and well cooked.

As a regular hotel user, at least twice a week for business. I had become bored with the usual \"chain hotels\" and wanted a change. This little Gem fitted the bill perfectly. Good beers and very tasty food. A little bit noisy, but hey! it is a pub.

Room standard was good. nice and clean. my main gripe was the fact of being charged an extra £10 for coming in after 1am. (i was at a wedding up the road) this was not explained when i checked in. just bare this in mind when you book

I stayed at The Crown at Worthington with my Mum for a couple of nights as we had a family funeral to attend in the local area. It was a little hard to find as it is on a road in the middle of nowhere and the signage for the pub is not lit at night so you could go flying past quite easily and miss the turning. Our stay was enjoyable and we would happily recommend it to others. The rooms are lovely - the only tiny gripe for me was the fact that the TV is up way too high on the wall and in the room I was in I couldn't reach the fan to have it on without the main light being on. Apart from those very minor things our stay was very enjoyable. It is very good value for money and the breakfast is very hearty.

When we arrived, the hotel had no record of our Laterooms booking, but fortunately had room available.

My only comments about the room is that the shower was very small and a bit grubby in those hard to clean areas. That said the bedroom was perfectly clean and very comfortable. The real treat though is the restaurant, especially if you're into real ales as they have an extraordinary selection. A few better value wines would be nice but I have no complaints. I'd highly recommend it in fact. The directions are a bit misleading as you actually have to go along rectory lane to the roundabout at the end and then turn left, the lakes and kilhey lodge are after that point.

I travel a fair bit on business and mostly stay in pubs (50-75 nights a year). This inn is slighty confusing, everything was okay to great (food okay, beer great, nice bar/food area, room very good) until about 21:00, then the singing/music started and continued until 23:10. If you stay in a pub you expect some noise from the bar but this was louder than I would normally have the TV set at and I couldn't get to sleep until about 23:30. Recommended if you can avoid music nights, or go out/join in when they are on.

I had booked 4 rooms and everyone enjoyed their stay. We had our lunch when we arrived and chose the 2 course menu with numerous choices.Excellent food and definatley good value. The only negative point I have is that the heating was not on in any of our rooms. This is a very minor issue and it will not put us off staying there again.

Great area (out of town), thoroughly relaxing, a little noisy in my room (but not disruptive) at night but to be expected if you have an early night and choose to stay in a pub. Very relaxing.

The hotel was fairly easy to get to, but it is in the middle of nowhere so a taxi was necessary to get around. But, apart from that, it was a very clean and tidy hotel with excellent staff. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.
