Our impression of the Clarence Gardens Hotel, Scarborough.The managment and staff couldn't have been more freindly and helpful. On our last day, after we'd checked out we got soaked in a thunder storm. They let us use a room to get changed, free of charge.However, the whole place seemed antiquated and in need of a 'make over'. Though we were fortunate to have a wonderful sea view from our room which more than compensated for this.

Receptionist excellent but she has to do to many duties ie= bar tender, waitress,check in.Food was not fresh and waiter wasn`t sure what was available on menu.Would stay again if menu was improved and more staff was available to do other duties

Family friendly and great seaviews!This hotel has around 30 rooms and we were very fortunate to have one of the family rooms on the front of the hotel with the most fabulous seaview. My Dad did too and was in a smaller room on the third floor. My two sisters and niece had rooms on the rear of the property but were happy as they were quite prepared to share a family room but were given 2 doubles instead as they decided they wanted to start the break a day earlier. The hotel Managers Paul and Paula + Receptionist were very friendly and accommodating. There was ample (safe) street parking on the front of the hotel and a lovely walk down to the sea-front with nice cafes. You can catch an open topped bus along the sea-front throughout the day to take you to the main attractions.

Clarence Garden reviewReally friendly staff, had a sea view room which was clean, however there was a hole in the wall and the ceiling was stained where it had previously leaked. Breakfast was excellent. Really good variety and great value for money. Games room had box of toys for the children and staff couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. The rooms had all you needed for a short stay and no chintz.

Overnight stayBooked at the last minute for an overnight stay en route to Scotland and were given a room with a sea view, certainly not expected, but due to Scarborough sea mist we couldn't see the sea till next morning! Great to have a hotel car park for guests nearby. Receptionist very helpful directing us to local restaurants for evening meal.

The staff were very friendly and always helpful.My only concern was we stayed in a family room on the 2nd floor and it had sash windows with no locks. We were very concerned as it was a 30 ft drop to street level. We did mention it to staff but, as we only stayed for 1 night, saw no change

scarborough june 2009The Hotel location is excellent. we had a sea view room and the views were breathtaking. The staff are all extremly freindly and welcoming, the hotel was very busy on the saturday night but it's spacious enough to not notice it. The cooked breakfast's are superb but the continental need's a little more variety of cerals, mainly in the chocolate variety for little one's. We walked to all of the tourist attractions from the hotel and my 4.5 year old didn't complain once about being tired. The rooms could benefit from a update during the winter period to spruce them up and add freeview to keep the kids amused when in the room. The information available from the hotel staff regarding things to do an see makes it one of the friendliest hotels I have ever stayed in and I would highly reccoment it to anyone.

The hotel is situated in an excellent spot, the view of our room was perfect.They were really friendly.My only problem was the breakfest, wasn't very good. When it was busy, they were a little bit lost serving people without order and cold. But, the fried breakfast wasn't bad. Overall, very good

room was very small just enough room for double bed and and bunk bed en suite very small but did the job. customer service very good nothing was too much trouble would visit again but would ask for sea views

Poor ValueThe room was very small and for the price should off included breakfast at least. It was very cold and drafty. The car park was a walk away from the hotel and if you wanted to park outside the hotel it was an extra cost. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This was the only hotel where we had to pay on arrival although they have a copy of all payee details. They had a bar although, as soon as we checked in we were informed by under circumstances was there a late bar. Drinking facilities in the room was very minimal.

This is a supurb location on the sea front and close to the town. The staff are very friendly and child friendly! you will need a light weight buggy as lots of steep hills! Food in the hotel is fantastic for children although we found the adults choices expensive for what you got.Nice and cosy hotel to stay for a short break.

generally fine and very convenientWould stay again though some rooms were very small. We had two rooms, one was fine, one too small.Parking facilities were a boon.Great to be able to stay w/o buying breakfastViews were fantastic across the bay.Very warm and supportive owners. Particularly appreciated a bible in each room.

Clarence Garden ScarboroughTo focus on the positive , the staff (we only saw one ) was extremely helpful and friendly.However, we found the rest very disappointing.The room was very small but did have a wonderful seaview through the ancient and drafty sash window(probably the original circa 1900) The bed was two singles lashed together and two single mattresses,very uncomfortable ,and barely fitted in the room.Warbrobe was falling apart , smallish on suite had seen better dats and light above sink did not work.Decoration was 1970s woodchip with several patches! Small TV fixed to wall about 8 feet high and almost impossible to watch.I could go on! We were there for only 1 night for a family birthday and christeneing on the sunday and couldnt be bothered to complaint as the place needs a complete refit/decoraction.

Excellent sea viewsThe family room we stayed in had a large bay window overlooking the north bay. It was definatley a room with a view. Couldn't have picked better.
