Excellent B&B accommodation outside Stevenage. Nice quiet large room with simple but adequate bathroom. Wonderful breakfast and paper to read with it. Very good value for money and would recommend the place.

Business tripPub has friendly staff, Waggle Dance beer on tap (rare), great mixed grill and plentiful full English breakfast. There is easy access to a pleasurable country walk (begins opposite the pub) along a lane with another nice pub at the end.

Not quite the real 'Chequers'The room was OK but the pub overall had a 'tired' look. Stair carpet was dirty and approach (stairs/corridor) did not inspire. The bedroom was actually rather more inviting but a bit dated in decor style while the bathroom was in need of a refit. Everything worked though and at £40 inc. full English breakfast was good value and adequate for one night. Good car parking and easy to find.

Good Old Fashioned Inn (in the best sense of the phrase).Made an overnight stop while away on business. The Chequers is a good old fashioned inn in that it provides comfortable, homely and good value accommodation. My room was large with a double bed and sofa, TV and a large en-suite bathroom. Everything was clean and well presented and the atmosphere was relaxed and easy going. The pub itself has a good traditional bar with a good range of real ales and there are another two pubs in the village if you fancy a change. There is also a very pleasant restaurant within the Chequers, although I stayed in the bar and had a bar meal (a very generous portion of cod and chips) Good value all round. Good breakfast as well.Outside there is a large beer garden with plenty of tables (although I did get c*****ed on by the monster size rooks - so whatch where you sit!)Overall, I can highly recommend The Chequers if you want somewhere that offers a bit of character and good value away from the city centres.

Typical country pub value for money - stayed on Pie Night (Wed) £5 for home made pie (choice of 6) with fresh veg etc - really good value !

it's a pub with rooms and you get what you apy for, the landlady was a little frosty on my arrival (as was the weather and the room but it was -4 centiigrade) but then a large long haired tattoed northerner seem to engender that reaction in southern landladys. The rest of the staff were really friendly and helpful. As for food i arrived on "pie night" and not really being enamoured of pies don't feel qualifid to pass comment but they were very busy (the pheasant and bacon pie had sold out which was a pity because out of the lot that was the one i fancied) Finally i must comment on the Westons cider they have it's called Old Rosey it's 7.2% and it makes your face go numb after 3 pints ...marvellousOverall i would stay again because it is good value for money and i'd like to try the a la carte menu, not to mention some more old rosey.

We found 'Chequers' very easily and the team were VERY accomodating and friendly! The room was a good size and we were impressed that there was not much noise form the bar OR the road. We ate at the hotel in the evening (after all, why leave if it's all there?) as the menu was varied and our choices were very good value for money and evidently not just 'out of a packet'. We will return there if we are in the vicinity and have already recommended Chequers to a friend.

Excellent catering facilities. A non-listed item on the menu was requested - and was provided.Location/directions provided by Laterooms was totally incorrect.
