Nostalgic. No pool. Great hotel close to the city centre. The staff were exceptional!

My sister and I took a Saturday night mini-vacation at the Brown, even though we live in this city. We were delighted with our corner room on the 10th floor, which had two very comfortable beds. It was a very big room with south and west views; a big bathroom (the shower had a bright light and a curving shower rod-- nice touches, as was the real soapdish); and lots of windows. Each bed had a specially woven throw depicting the Kentucky Derby (which was to take place the following week). A copy of the city magazine was provided, along with a guide to attractions. There was a two-person-sized easy chair that was well-stuffed and as comfortable as the beds. The staff was gracious and helpful. Sunday buffet breakfast at J. Graham's Cafe on the lower level was a bargain and wonderful; we usually won't touch scrambled eggs on a steam table, but theirs were delicious, and so were all of the other dishes. When we walked down the street to find a restaurant for dinner on Saturday, we passed a few disreputable-looking folks, which is not suprising in a downtown area, but the hotel itself was wonderful. We will recommend it even more strongly to friends who visit our city, now that we have enjoyed it ourselves.

Very elegant and charming hotel. Very efficient and courteous staff. Rooms were not sound proof. Could hear the guest in the adjacent room. Cars outside too loud.

"I recently stayed at the Brown Hotel it was very beautiful, but worn. The bathroom door was broken and you could tell it was pasted back together. My biggest complaint is the lack of service when it comes to safety issues. My husband, son, 3 other guests and myself were going to the 13th floor from the 12th. The elevator was struggling and slipped a floor. We informed several staff members and front desk, but it was NOT closed and no maint. people came to check it. Very disappointed with safety issues. Be very careful when visiting hotel."

Beautifull old hotel, very friendly staff. Did not get to stay there long enough.

"We liked everything... the beautiful lobby, the gracious and friendly service, the bed, the bathroom, the feeling of another time and place, the quiet ambience. The only criticism is that the TV can only be viewed from the bed."

Very comfortable bed. Even on 11th floor, loud traffic noise from street.

"While going to the Kentucky Derby this past year, I and my lover stayed at this hotel. It was excellent and one of the best experiances of my life."

Great old hotel, wonderful staff. Very loud. Bar across the street let out at 2 am. Great hotel, very well trained staff. The rooms are loud, and even on the 11th floor, you could hear the noise from the street, and outdoor band. Another bar let out at 2 am, and there was a fight in the street, six cop cars, and as you can imagine, not a great nights rest.

"the historic brown hotel is truly beautiful in it's vintage furnishings and decorations. however, our hotel room was nothing exceptional. there was a comfortable king size bed, desk and two chairs, but the wallpaper was nondescript and separating in places, and the ceiling had water stains. the staff were pleasant and helpful and the ambiance welcoming. a nice touch was the free use of computers on the property in several places, plus the now common wifi throughout. we did enjoy our visit to the brown, but next time i would check out our room before settling in."

"We stayed for the Saint James Court Art Show. The location can't be beat, it is right on the shuttle line for the show which really saves a parking hassle. The hotel was very old and elegant, great if you like that type of ambiance. The club floor was the highlight of our stay, there were drinks and snacks including wine in the evening and upgraded continental breakfast in the morning, it was definitely worth the $40 we paid for the upgrade. the rooms were average but comfortable and clean. We hope to stay again next time."

I was impressed that staff remembered my name. The rooms could use some updating (i.e., carpet). This is a beautiful hotel with friendly and helpful staff. It is downtown Louisville and close to many attractions.

"Hotel did not honor request for smoking room. When questionned they were rude and couldn't have cared less, adding our room would be scruntinized for signs of smoking and possible $ 250 charge if ""they"" thought we had smoked. Room was average and over priced. Valet parking process was expensive and a nuisance. "

I liked the architure. Too noisy. We could here every car on the street. Beds were small and not comfortable. Staff did a good job but were personally cold.

"They filmed the 2005 movie ""Elizabethtown"" here, I thought it looked familiar! Lobby and rooms are fancy and there's a lot to look at. Staff upgraded us to ""club"" floors even though we checked in at 3am."

"We stayed at the Brown the night of Thunder of Louisville, an airshow-firweworks for Derby. Great room, location at the end of 4th St. an entertainment area. Rooms were sold out buy I way able to snag this one only through Travel website. Lovely old hotel, lg rooms."

Beautiful dining area and architecture. Rooms were not remodeled, shower broken. I was very disappointed in what I thought would have been an outstanding hotel experience for my daughter and her new husband on their wedding night. The room was small. I had requested a king bed, and they were given a room with two queens! They were told they couldn't be moved. The shower was broken in the first room. Eventually, they were given a new room after they couldn't fix the shower. Beautiful setting downstairs, just not the area where you would sleep. Rooms have not been redone since?

Classic architecture, and very romantic. AC in room did not adequately cool the room.
