Friendly welcome, good food ,great breakfast comfy beds - immaculate new bathroom with showerNewly refurbished bathrooms were lovely, well stocked tea and coffee making facilities in room. Hopefully the bedrooms will be modernised soon too. I would stay there again and feel that the price I paid was a fair one.I have stayed at Birch Services close by but will choose this hotel instead now.

Helpful StaffHaving used late rooms on numerous occassions I have never felt compelled to write a review before. We stayed at the Birch as a group of 8 people as a base to visit the Lancashire area and all of us agreed we would stay again. The staff were extremely helpful in all aspects and informative about local eating places. The breakfast was brilliant and set us all up for a full day of sightseeing. Two small problems were dealt with quickly and efficiently by the staff and we all agreed it was great value for money. We will definately stay here again when visiting the area.

Friday night cabaretThis hotel was excellent for the price paid- room was old fashioned, but adequate.Only complaint we had was that we could not get any food at 6.00 on Friday evening as it was Cabaret night-we were offered a table with food-this being meat and potato pie-which did not suit us as we do not eat meat!!Breakfast was buffet style with good choice of hot and cold food. Staff were pleasant and friendly.Hotel is situated in pleasant grounds.

family friendly hotel with potential for even greater returnsI found the hotel extremely clean, although some of the decor was a bit tired and dated. The staff team were extremely efficient and friendly. Our breakfast was freshly made and served to us at our table. My only comment would be that fresh tea would be preferable than tea from hot plate. I would not hesitate to use this hotel again and would recommend to others.

ELR diesel weekendI enjoyed my stay, staff of the hotel was very kind. The room (and the whole hotel) have certanly already the marks of time and use, it is not to new anymore. But the room doos its job, it is clean. The bathroom is a bit on the small side, a couple can't share it I think. Also the caulk around the bassin is a bit dirty, but that's realy the only comment on the cleanlyness of the room.Quality of the food was good, I can reccomend the curry.Only downside was that the hotel is some distance away from town, so you can't easy walk back after going to a pub, but there's a decent bar inside.Sadly I had to leave early because I was called back to work.

I did not enjoy this hotel at allThe rooms smell, they are old and dated, very small, dark and they are not maintained. The room smelled ver bad, I could not sleep. The food was very poor at breakfast, what is displayed on the menu is not what is displayed in the breafast room. I asked for grilled food and it arrived overcookd and swimming in oil, I did not eat.Very poor tandard overall.

Birch Hotel - HeywoodEasy to find, well signposted. Loads of free parking, next to hotel gardens . Friendy greeting from reception. Easy check-in. Clean room with usual tea & coffee stuff + free bottle of water which was a nice touch! Although close to M60 the room is well soundproofed. Birch offers a temporary free leisure club membership 2 mins drive away and I feel this a real bonus and I recommend you use this facility.Louge area is full of comfortable armchairs. A good selection of food is available until 9.00 and I felt the standard was good for the money.I will definately stay here again.

Great food and serviceThe service and food were excellent. The only downside of this hotel is the dated decor, expect patterned carpets and old fashoined decor of the room. Rooms are also very compact and not a place where you'd spend time in. Also if there is a function on then don't expect an early night as the noise travels through the hotel.

The Birch Hotel has certainly seen better days. It's quite a seedy place and there is still plenty of refurbishing required (this is June 09). However, the double room I had was comfortable - if less than spacious - and the bathroom was good (but beware of very hot shower!). The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast (included in the price) was very good and well served. I didn't use the restaurant for any other meal, so I can't comment there. But as a quiet place to sleep over, it's excellent value - and it's a great location for visiting Rochdale, Oldham or Manchester. I'd certainly go again.

Hotel is OK, needs a bit of TLC to bring it into the modern world, having said that it was value for money and an experience to behold. Only main criticism was the problem with the TV not working properly.

Reasonable accomodationThe staff were very friendlyand helpful, the evening meal was better than expect, for me a real plus after a hard day working. They had free wifi again useful for keeping in contact with the office, generally an enjoyable stay. The decor is slightly aged and the room could do with modernising, value for money at the offer price which was half the normal rate.

Nice hotel but very poor bathroomThis hotel is very nice and do a good breakfast. There was 2 of us stayed in a twin room whilst working in the area and the room was big enough although the bathroom was a major disappointment with black mould on the walls etc. Still value for money but I do wonder sometimes if you are penalised for getting a reduced rate.

Helpful staffThe hotel was okay. It suffers a little from under-investment maybe. The sheets were crisp white cotton, which impressed my wife. The staff was helpful and attended to one or two of our requests very quickly. We thought it was good value for money though and will probably use the hotel again.

Great value for moneyThis hotel was great value for money - Bed , Breakfast with use of a leisure club. If anything the room we had was a bit too hot - difficult to cool down. My only real complaint was that there was a smell of tobacco smoke in the corridor - someone obviously breaking the rules. This was reported to reception but I don't thing they were overly concerned. All in all a very good deal.

Not bad reallyPerfectly good room for the money. Didn't sample the food. Nice new flatscreen TV. I chose the hotel over a travelodge because it had a gym with pool. I felt a bit mislead by the adverts as this was actually a health club down the road. However it is a very nice health club so that more than made up for the inconvenience of it not being on site. Would stay there again.
