The hotel has a great beachfront location in the center of Tamarindo. However, the location couldn't make up for the room quality. The first room we were given had a broken sliding door lock. It looked like it had been pried open from the outside by an intruder. The room could not be secured from intruders, so we changed rooms. The next room we were given had a mysterious insect problem. I killed over 25 mosquitoes and a dozen large flies in two days there. (Note that this is an area that has had mosquito-transmitted Dengue fever outbreaks in recent years.) The insect problem occurred in spite of keeping the doors and windows shut the entire stay. I believe the air conditioning system was blowing the bugs into the room. The shower stall didn't completely drain, so the bathroom smelled like a festering urban swamp. The beds and bedding were poor quality. The drapes and walls had many stains (including blood) from the numerous smashed mosquitoes and other bugs. Finally, the hotel hostess at check-in didn't tell us that breakfast was included in the hotel price. We learned about "breakfast included" only when we saw it on the checkout bill ($20 per day!), so we were determined to remove it from our bill. We had to talk to three employees--all the way up to the manager who was "not at the hotel" until we stood at the main desk for 30 minutes showing our resolve to have the fee removed. This was the only bad hotel experience I had in Costa Rica, including hotels roughly half the price.

Tamarindo Diria is worth the money to be at a beachfront hotel. The rooms are about 75 yards from the sand. We could hear the waves breaking from the balcony of our room. We went to Tamarindo Diria for our honeymoon in January 2009 and we weren't disappointed. The staff was very nice, spoke English very well, and was very helpful. The room was nice with a very large shower, a mini-fridge, and a safe for your valuables. The mattress is not the most comfortable, but that is the only negative I can think of for the hotel. The breakfast that is included in the rate is delicious with hot dishes and 4 or 5 kinds of fresh fruit, juices, cheese, cold cuts, coffee, and yogurt. The hotel bar and restaurant are nice, and the servers are friendly. Overall, it was a great honeymoon and a great hotel. I highly recommend Tamarindo Diria to honeymooners and families.

We truly enjoyed our stay in Tamarindo. Loved the rooms on the first floor with the patios facing the ocean! I think this was the the best location in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good which was included with the room.

Bring washcloths. Be prepared for periods of no water, got stuck in shower 2x without water for rinsing. Bring replacement lightbulbs and batteries for remotes. Be prepared for staff to have partial understanding of English. Bring lots of dollars in small denominations. Almost impossible to cash large bills. Be prepared to have dirt road access to parking area. Hotel did not open the large pool wet bar! What a shame. Great pool, great bar, and no way to get a drink. Bring flashlight to read menu, and be prepared to explain to servers just what you wanted, and check your bill. The tip is already computed, but you need to know spanish to understand such.

I was totally put off at how rude the front desk, the tour desk, and the wait staff were. There was one bartender, that had a smile. The staff seemed put out with the simpliest of question or request. If you want to be waited on, this is not the place. If you want to get input or gather info, this is not the place. The location is awesome and the oceanview room is the draw. They could make so much money, if they took a course in customer service!!!

My husband and I stayed here the 1st week of Dec 2007. Here are our pros and cons: Pros: It is the only hotel directly on the beach in Tamarindo. Hotel and the room (ours was beachfront) were beautiful. Good security. Only guests with a wristband may come on the premises so even at night, if you stayed on the property, it was very safe. Menu food was quite good. Staff was very friendly. It was a very relaxing place to stay. beach was quiet and beautiful Cons: Tamarindo the town can be scary. We did not go out after dark. and 3 times (during the day) we were offered drugs on the street and beach. The Hotel's buffet dinner was way overpriced for the choices/quality Service was disappointing. Our room did not have towels when we checked in. It took TWO phone calls AND one angry trip to the front desk before they sent up bath towels -- and only exactly two towels. All said, it wasn't exactly the 4-star we expected. but since it was so cheap, we got what we paid for. and we would definitely stay here again.

Do not book through the travel website as they will not work with you at all. Our plane arrived a day late and we contacted them. Nothing was relayed. Our hotel was cancelled, and our transfer did not show. There was constuction going on which disrupted our stay, we were never notified by the travel agency, so much for that guarantee! My wife was pregnant, at the time, and we did not need this stress. I would deal with the airlines and the hotel, personally, as they were very helpful. Fly into Liberia, take a cab for $70.00 to the resort, and call it a day. The hotel was great, but there are cheaper places to stay if you do some leg work.

We checked in for a 3 day stay only to be nonchalantly told by the front desk clerk that there would be no water or electricty for one whole day! There was no concession to offer even a bottle of water to brush our teeth! The room was nice but was across the street - NOT on the beach as the hotel promises on their website. This is not a 4 star resort - maybe 3 1/2. Breakfast was good but service was lacking. THEY ARE UNDERGOING MAJOR CONSTRUCTION RIGHT NOW. THEY BEGAN JACKHAMMERING EVERY SINGLE MORNING BETWEEN 6:30-7. THE CONSTRUCTION CREWS ARE ALL LIVING IN TENTS ON THE GROUNDS OF THE HOTEL. NOT RECOMMENEDED AT ALL.

I checked in on August 8 for a four day stay only to be told that there would be no water and electricity the following day for an ENTIRE day. The desk clerk was unapologetic, rude and unwilling to offer accomodations (bottled water to brush teeth). They then proceeded to direct us to our rooms ACROSS THE STREET. I thought we were staying at a hotel on the beach but half the hotel is on across the street and up a huge hill. There is a new hotel building going up and there was LOUD construction beginning between 6:30-7 every morning. There was hot water for only one shower that I took during my 4 day stay. Very disappointing. I would not return. Several times we returned to our room to find the TV on - not sure is someone had let themselves in or not - not very secure in my opinion.

The location of the hotel was excellent and the grounds were beautiful. The entire staff was friendly, informative, and helpful. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were okay, but nothing special. If you are looking for luxury accomodations you may want to consider one of the nearby bed and breakfasts on the same beach.

hotels beach and pool are nice but directly in front of the hotel there is a very busy drug dealer pushing his wares. also in the middle of the night the hotel maintenence man tried to open our room while we were sleeping because some drunk person told them it was his room and he forgot his key. they never even bothered to call up to confirm or look up his name and room#. My wife and 2 kids were sleeping in that room. i would not recommend this hotel for families.

"This hotel is the oldest in Tamarindo, and our room show it. We paid the extra for an ocean view, and were given an ocean view room in the oldest part of the hotel. The walls were thin, the bed was hard, the water temperature for the shower was very inconsistent. Service at breakfast is poor, usually having to ask repeatedly for coffe or water. Restaurant staff gave noticeable preferrence to Spanish speaking patrons. Would not recommend. "

I was very happy to stay here. I particulary liked that my room was prepared so neatly everyday. My maid service was excellent.

It is refreshing that the hotel's bar prices are comparable to outside business prices.Great central location and beach access.

"Great ocean view room with large balcony on the third floor of the newest building. Nothing like waking up in the morning and seeing the ocean from your bed, or watching the amazing sunset from your balcony. I would recommend spending the extra money to get one of these rooms. "
