I had stayed in this hotel couple of months back. The Hotel needs a urgent renovation/ refurbishment to get this atpar with the modern contempererory city hotels. Lobby is Old Fashioned (Good for the early 90's). Staff at the Reception was very professional, knew their job on Guest Handling. I was allocated Room 201, Pool Facing. Some of the Lifts were under renovation. However there was a notice from the management. My room was okay. The same old luxury room (90's again)!!!. The TV was the one of the Old Types inside a cabinet which is placed somehow lower than the Bed. If you try to watch the TV while on the Bed... That is just impossible. The Welcome chocolate platter was just too good, tasted real and out of this world. The General Cleanliness of the Room was superb. Bathrooms were spacious and well maintained. The Internet from the Room was a Bit expensive & Slow. I liked the way they have presented their Tea/ Coffee amenities ( Well kept in a Leather Cladded Box with separate partitions). Room Service staff was extremely prompt and professional. The Bar @ the Lobby level was again Old Fashioned, but Service was TOP NOTCH. The Coffee shop was again OLD in DESIGN. Overall a OLD Hotel with SUPERB STAFF AND SERVICE.

I was vacationing in Kolkata and stayed at the Taj Bengal for 3 nights. The staff really made me feel welcome and special and took care of all my needs with an urgency not seen in other hotels. The staff were always polite and courteous, always at my beck and call, willing to do anything to make my stay comfortable. Rooms were spacious and clean, with a turn down every evening. I will unreseverdy recommend this hotel to everyone!! I am coming back.

We can't recommend the hote highly enough. We visit a couple of times each year and it just keeps getting better- amazing service for all guests. Great Food, facilities but staff who treat everyone like royalty.
