The hotel and stay was fantastic! We had a one bedroom king room, and the pictures looked exactly how the room looked. We were concerned as we passed by other hotels on our way to the Bungalows as several other properties did not look anything like the pictures. The staff was great, food was wonderful (especially at the Social), and pool area was nice and relaxing. We would definitely recommend and return to this hotel.

It was the worse hotel when traveling with a child. There are way too many steps. Their version of a standard room in equivalent to a motel. The food and alcohol was very limitted. Forget about night entertaiment. It was completely dead! The beach was the worser in the entire Island. I would never go back to this hotel nor would I recomend it to anyone.

I have stayed at some of the highest rated hotels in the world and paid ridiculous amounts for the experience. My previous all inclusive experiences were hateful. This was certainly not one of them. The complex is very well cared for with extremely friendly staff. The rooms are well designed, cared for and comfortable. The social restaurant is an excellent ala carte experience with great atmosphere. The pool and the cabanas are certainly the escape one is looking for on holiday. The SPA is well designed, clean and readily available with appointments. It is a quiet place but there is access to a casino and the attached Sun resorts property and their facilities if one craves a morecrowded experience. A great value in these discriminating times.

Ok so we just got back on Saturday (1/31/09). When we first got there, at 4pm, we had to wait 2 HOURS for our room! they were still cleaning it!! And check in is at 3pm, and they knew we were coming, yet our room was not ready. So finally they said it was ready, we HIKED to our room, and IT STILL WASNT READY!!!!! AND IT WAS THE WRONG ROOM!!!... so we had to go all the way back to the lobby and wait ANOTHER HOUR for our new room!!! Mind you, it is like 90 degrees humid, and we are wearing winter clothes. We finally get our room, the shower is broken, the toilet is flooding,i called to speak to the manager idk how many times, im still waiting for his call back!!!... The stairs and hills are the worst! its a hike to go anywhere...The beach is small and dirty. The water was dirty..and they say all non motorized water sports included...BS its for only one hour, and its snorkeling where u cant see jack cuz the water is dirty and kayaking (only 2 of them) where u constantly tip cuz the water is too rough..you only get it one hour if you exceed it even by one minute they charge you!!! no entertainment, very boring for us. The food, ok put it this way..me and my fiance have been running to the bathroom every ten minutes..STILL!! It is sooo gross!! flies all over it, and it sits out in the heat not covered. They constantly try to sell you time shares. It was a nice hotel, clean, but just too many problems. service was horrible in the restaraunts we waited forever just so someone would come to us and take our order..i wouldnt go again! avoid!!!!!!

Great family vacation for my daughter and me. Our second all inclusive. This beach is small, only 2 hotels. Not a big party scene. With 7 pools there is always a place to carve out your own spot. Sweeping ocean views from almost everywhere on resort. You can explore the many other coves to the east which is fun. (walk over hill with El Rancho restaurant. There is a path) Downside, the hotel next door Lifestyle Hacienda is tacky. The Sun Village staff is great, very personable, the will provide pretty much any service if you ask. Food is ok. The Asian restaurant is the best. Always freshly grilled food to order at the Buffet. There is a small shack by the beach for relaxed lunches. Note- the hotel changed from "reserved seating" to unreserved, but essentially its the same, since you need to get there by 630p or 830p to get space, plan accordingly. Nice deep private beach above the public strip down by water. Very safe, clean, no fighting for towels or chairs like in some all inclusives, There are two pools on beach, one with games, and one quieter, which are lovely. You can hop back and forth from pool to ocean all day. Tons of games and equipment provided at that pool house. The staff fun club is friendly but not pushy. Eve entertainment was worse than last yr, but the house BAND is AMAZING. Their play times are not posted clearly, so ASK. Great performances in English and Spanish. Tons of styles. On Wed nite they had a beach party/bonfire. Super fun. Beautiful weather. Quite breezy, lots of surf. It never rained -- 3rd wk Feb. There is gorgeous spa/gym on property, not included in all inclusive. We didn't utilize (no children).

This vacation spot was a great time. Yes it;s true not everything in life is perfect but it's all about making the best out of the experience. If you are extremely picky about every detail this might not be the place for you but if you want a place with good food, entertainent and beautiful beaches and pools then i would go here!!! Not every food item on the menu your going to like. That should be common sense, so if you don't like it the first time then try again and order something else. I went to each dining place twice to really experience the menus and I was very impressed. The beach is beautiful, it's not like Punta Cana with white sand but it is a large beach with warm water. The hotel rooms are average. You didn't pay for luxury so don't expect it. Some people have issues with air condition and other things but I personally did not. If you do the staff at the hotel is right there to fix everything for you so no worries. The spa was amazing. If you could get a spa room then that's what I would do. The spa is so peaceful and has great food that is served to you all day long. That was prob my favorite part of the trip. I felt that it was a great place to go for couples and very safe. I would love to go again. Also if your confused with the Bungalows its the same hotel just a little distance from eachother. If it's only a little bit more i would stay at the bungalows I heard they were really nice. You use all the same eating facilities anyway just have better rooms and a nicer pool area with beds to relax on. Hope this helps everyone who is considering going. :)

Stayed for 1 wk. in Jan./09 - place was almost empty. The pool and tub were also empty because they're cold. Never a problem to get a poolside lounge but having a bar waiter serve you a drink there could be. No elevator's, lotsa stair's, noisy rooms as the construction is concrete, stucco and tile. The shower floor was grimy grey with moldy corners and nozzle mostly plugged.Nice granite double sinks but no space to store your shaving kit or makeup bag. After 2 day's of complaining the room and patio floor's were clean enough to walk on without footwear. The AC was barely cool and the remote control ceiling fan had a mind of it's own.The wicker patio furniture is nice but no reclineing lounger to get comfy with a book. Nice 42" flatscreen but only about 10 English channels and they would sometimes cut out with a pay your subscription notice. Breakfast bacon and egg's taste very different than N.A. fare although the waffles, pasta's and bread's are edible. I tried a turkey breast BLT for lunch and almost choked on a large piece of chopped thighbone so I stuck to well done burger's. Dinner wasn't much better with a mystery meat stewlike dish and old shrimp for the wife. The desert's were either oversweet or tasteless. Other guest's said that the Italian eatery at the Sun Village was better and it was okay with only a few complaints. In order to book it you had to go in person to guest relations early, fight off the concierge trying to steer you too the timeshare, (very hardsell). The room has a good coffeemaker but your fridge only contains only local beer and softdrinks, no snacks. Also no premium liquor's at the bar, only local rum and beer.

the sun village was amazing! i would definitely go again. the service was great and it was very clean. the dinning was fine and is a great location for families being right next to a water park. it is great for all kinds of people.

I am shocked by the negative reviews here!We stayed at Sun village for 2 weeks in August and had a lovely time.We had a standard room which was plain but clean and comfortable. It had a well appreciated coffe maker in the room, great air conditioning, and a fridge stocked with bottled beer, good quality bottled water, and sodas. Te bathroom was clean and bright.There are loads of different pools and areas for every mood, and the beach was great, big comfy "beds" and a great breeze. Eevry day they had a barbeque by the beach, and lunch was always delicious.All of the restaurants were great in fact. When we went no reservations were required which was great, very convenient.Of all of the all inclusives I've been to - Sun village had the best quality, and the best selection of food.In fact, Sun Village was by far the best value all inclusive I have been to by FAR.I would highly recommend it

I usually travel to high end all-inclusive resorts twice a year. This was the worst experience I had above all. The pools were luke warm; foods too salty or too sweet; the bar closes at midnight; there are 6 chices only for room service(which you can only order 2 per room/ per day); staff appear to be discriminitive to guests, most of the brand drinks are charged separately; all the staffs wanted tips(even for an extra towel!!); no smoking rooms

I stayed at The Bungalows when it was still known as Maxim Bungalows back in August. I have travelled to many places and stayed at many high-end hotels. This place definitely ranks up in the top 5%. I would suggest sticking to the Social Restaurant, rather than venturing to the others in Sun Village. The service was impeccable. Rooms were very nice, although I wasn't a big fan of the fold-out bed in the studio rooms. We were hoping to visit some of the local sites...but we just couldn't pull ourselves from the fantastic poolside cabanas!!

Beautiful place on pictures and when you are there in person, the beauty gets distroyed with the unfriendly staff in the front desk. They promise Ocean view on the phone when booking and when you get there they tell you the enitre hotel is non Ocean view. Standard rooms are so small you cant fit two confortably, they moved me to a deluxe room and it was well kept but when it was time to maintain the service they must of not been able to reach us in time. Place is huge and the walking you will do from one end to the other just be prepare to go up and down stairs and in a maze they themselves get lost in. No real entertainment just a night show that is no longer than 15 minutes and NO MUSIC any where around other than the bar by the beach and you have to be a real good listener to be able to hear it, while you have people talking to you. It is a perfect resort for older couples but no real fun for kids. I have been to other hotels in the island but Sun Village is the worst and i will never go back. I had invited a friend and he bought into the time share and now i feel bad because he doesnt like it either. If you really want to try a great hotel that keeps you on your toes and at the same time gives you time to relax try the Grand Oasis Marien, there you will not be disappointed. I checked out the very next day, I needed to feel that i was in DR not in a senior citizen home.

This resort is very secluded and romantic. The Bungalows are well worth the little extra money over Sun Village. The rooms are gorgeous with very private and huge verandas overlooking lush foliage and most have oceanviews. The resort is built in the side of a mountain so there are lots (I mean lots) of steps and inclines. However there are phones located around where you can call and someone will come get you and take you wherever you want to go on a golf cart. Everyone is very friendly and will go out of their way for you. Even though it's not included in the resort, be sure to check out "Ahora" beachfront restaurant just to the left of Sun Village's beach. Food there is amazing and very reasonable and they even set up a table on the beach at sunset for us for a birthday we were celebrating. Unless you are very picky, do not believe the negative reviews. We always had plenty of hot water and the electricity never went out. Very casual dress code - men don't need anything more than shorts and shirts and most women wore sundresses, or shorts/capris and tops to dinner. Don't forget your swimsuit and sunblock - the pools are awesome! Massage/Facial/Manicure at the Spa was average compared to the States, but the pool there was great. We just came back (May 31-June 7, 2009) and would go again in a heartbeat. The weather was gorgeous - beautiful blue skies and lots of sun everyday! Even though the weather website showed thunderstorms everyday, we only got a sprinkle of rain one afternoon and a short shower after midnight one night. If you are looking for nightlife, this is not the place for you. However, there are plenty of day excursions available (cable cars, ziplines, ATV, waterfalls) and I would definately go to OceanWorld. (Encounters not swim-withs are the best value!). The Bungalows are great place to escape, have plenty of romance and very private moments. This was our honeymoon and honestly it couldnt have bben more perfect for us. From the porters that met us as soon as we left our taxi, to Griselda that made sure our room was perfect everday (even with towel art!) it was amazing. Some people have commented on the issue of too many stairs, but really...after eating all the great food and delicious drinks it was actualy beneficial to working it all off. Besides, the grounds are kept immaculate so every walk to our final destination was blissful. Check in was a bit slow, our room wasnt ready when we got there, but we were a bit early and I remember how hard it was for us to leave, so I can understand completely. I cant wait to go back!

I have to be honest, I am not sure who rated this hotel a 5 star, or wrote reviews of this being the best vacation/hotel they have ever been to, because for American standards it was a 3 star at best. Here are a few factors as to why I feel this way. To start with the "all inclusive top shelf alcohol" ran out by NOON every day. They only allow 5 bottles of Gray Goose per day, never mind Patron tequila, that you had to pay extra $15 for per shot. There is only ONE 24/7 bar on the entire resort and it is not at the Bungalows it is at Sun Village. Out of the 3 on-site restaurants only one was decent, Social, which is located at the Bungalows. The best way to describe the rest would be to compare them to a bad college cafeteria. The "all inclusive" 24 hour room service consisted of a 10 item menu, and you can only order room service 2 times a day, not to mention it takes over an hour each time you order it. One evening we never even received our food. Don't bother listening to the staff about off-site restaurants either, they will suggest Ponderosa, and the food there is worse than the resort, never mind the outrageous prices (2 pound local lobster was $65). In addition to those prices you will also have to pay $35 cab ride. The beach is not white sand and is full of sea weed. The water is somewhat blue; however the sand in the water was more like rocks and made it unbearable to experience. There are NO motorized sports such as jet skis that you can rent from the resort and all the excursions were way overpriced, for example Ocean World was $150.00 per person!!!! The only positive thing I can say for sure was the landscaping of the Bungalows as well as the rooms. Great aspects of the rooms were: the view, the bath tub, marble bathroom and plasma (although they seem to be stealing a satellite TV signal and there are warning messages during TV programs) were the high lights. With that being said do not expect hot showers or your accommodations to be what you paid for. Upo

You pay for what you get at this resort. The food is suspect so dont be suprised. Worst is service. Apparently your on the staff's time, not yours. They go on breaks and dont come back and they think its a chore anytime you ask anything of them. Always seems kind of empty around resort which is bummer. Also, they have no clocks in rooms.
