Hotel is youth oriented and a great deal for business travelers. The general area is mostly latin and an abundance of resources exist for most of my needs. Hotel amenities really work for someone who travels for business. Laundry, internet et al. Styling is excellent and well thought out. I'll continue to stay at Stay on future business trips. Be aware, downtown L..A. is quite noisy at night. Cleaning and support staff are excellent. Check-in people are less so, not people oriented.

Overall, it was okay. It is a hostel so you have to realize that before even checking in. Front desk is nice. The bathrooms were not super clean and I wished the showers had places to dry off and hang towels/clothes and shelves for other things. Parking SUCKS...$10 and you have to stay there or pay another $10 to park again, so I suggest keeping your car there over night. There are AMAZING shopping alleys in walking distance, just ask the front desk and they can point you in the right direction. Close to Sports Arena and all that jazz.

OK to stay in downtown of Los Angeles. Nice youthful decoration. But there is no kitchen and parking lot, which is often standard amenities.

I was in L.A. to attend a party but needed an inexpensive room. The Stay hotel is actually incorporated within the Hotel Cecil downtown. I didn't even get a chance to check out the other amenities like a pool, if there was one. Plenty of paid parking across the street, but if you will be in-and-out during the day, use the parking lot next to the Hotel Cecil. They don't charge you for same day in-and-out like the public parking across the street. Staff was friendly, even though they couldn't find my reservation at first. I booked it two days before arriving, but apparently the reservation goes through the Hotel Cecil (the phone number on the Orbitz confirmation was for the Cecil, not the Stay desk) and the Cecil faxes the Stay reservations to the Stay desk. I guess they lost track of mine or didn't fax it, but all turned out okay because I had my confirmation page handy. Always take that with you! I had a bunk bed room with private bath. Minimal furniture, but appropriate for a hostel-type room. Room came with alarm clock, small writing desk with barstool-type chair, falt screen plasma tv, and a small plastic chair shaped like a hand. No place to put an open suitcase, though. Bathroom has dispenser for shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash (all coconut scented). Hotel includes access to iMacs. Vending machines in Hotel Cecil lobby. Very reasonable price. I'd stay there again.

This was a horrible hotel. First off they advertised as one occupant per room sharing a bathroom with one other room that also had one occupant. I got there and there was 6 people per room. I had to pay an upgrade fee to get what I had originally paid for (bait and switch). Bathrooms are shared with an entire floor. Internet did not work in the room, but in the foyer only. Everything about this place is small. Ooh and you have to pay for parking since they have no parking. That was another huge expense to me that I was not expecting. I will never stay there again.

I came to LA for a conference. I've stayed at other hotels, but I wanted something downtown and my choices were limited, so I picked the Stay. I had fairly low expectations when I booked, and even those weren't met. For starters, the wireless Internet is only for use in the lobby, during lobby hours. When the lobby is closed, you have to go to the hotel next door. We also never, ever had towels in the room. I asked for towels at one point and didn't get any until the next day. Since I was traveling for business, I had to shower the next day and dry off with a towel. The communal showers we shared were worse than college dorms. The bathrooms were cramped and frequently smelled of urine. The doors to most everywhere use keycards that don't work - I had to get my card replaced more than 10 times, as did a number of other guests. Worse, many of the staff members acted like it was my fault and that I was inconveniencing them for asking for help (though one male staff member was friendly). The rooms were hot and didn't have any air conditioning, so you had to sleep with the window open for comfort. Since we were right downtown, that meant waking up at 6:30 to honking and yelling from the streets. The location of the hotel was possibly the only plus, since it was fairly close to a number of good restaurants. I've traveled around the world and slept on the floor of huts in Asia and this was by far my worst hotel experience. I'll never, ever stay here again. For the price of the rooms here, you can stay at much nicer hotels.

Overall, I'd say that Stay is a pretty good hostel. Less than five minutes from Little Tokyo and Chinatown, and a one block stroll to the textile district. The best thing is that you don't have to deal with the awful traffic and freeways of LA to get there. I ate breakfast almost every morning in little Tokyo, with no traffic to worry about. There are several parking lots nearby which vary in cost from $7.00 per 24 hour period to $15 per 24 hr period. Get used to it - you'll have to pay for parking almost EVERYWHERE in LA. Free parking in this city is rare. There is no air conditioning at Stay, so be sure and check the weather report for LA for your month before reserving here. Most of the time LA is a cool 65-70 degrees, so you won't need air - but in July or so it does get hot. If you are used to living in a big city, you'll be okay with Stay. There are lots of hobos downtown, but they tend to leave you alone, or go away if you tell them to. There are a lot of hipster types walking their dogs in the morning, and lots of international girls in the 20-30 range who stay at Stay. If I had kids, I wouldn't really bring them to Stay, but then again, I wouldn't bring my kids to downtown LA either. This is a HOSTEL people. Like a youth hostel. Don't come expecting the Raddison or Hilton. The building is old and the water changes temp. but you get linens on the bed, and a place to crash at night. DO check out Stay for its awesome location and cheapness.

The hostel (I won't consider hotel) is old and yes cheap...The only thing they did is painting the wall and make it LOOKs colorful. Except bedclothes, cheap shampoo/shower gel and dirty towels, you don't get anything you need. i.e. no hanger but only drawer underneath the bed, no hair dryer, etc. Private shower is not worth the extra $$. It has either cold or very hot water... The bed looked like it had been used and there was some lipstick (?) on the towel near the sink :( When we came back to the room the next afternoon, there was an even dirtier towel on the nightstand. Not sure what's that for??? We just couldn't STAY any second longer!

Interesting renovation of old art deco downtown hotel. On the positive, the rooms are stylishly redecorated in a very trendy manner. It has wonderful amenities designed to appeal to the young and young of heart including 4 or 5 stunning large screen imacs available to guests on the mezzanine level. The staff is young, pleasant and helpful. On the negative, it has the problems of downtown hotels, mainly traffic noise, old plumbing, and a somewhat if-y neighborhood after dark. There is a parking lot directly across the street, and though I am in my 60's I did not feel uncomfortable coming back late at night. I liked the nice heavy vinyl clad windows in each room which could actually be opened for fresh air and which shut out most of the noise when I wanted to sleep. Additionally, the heavy wooden slatted shutters shut out both light and noise. Beds were comfortable. I believe this is a new venture for these hotel operators and there were a few matters that had been overlooked--like how the telephone message system or fancy room radios worked (no one knew), no cords to turn ceiling fans on & off (without standing on the bed), no clothes hangers, clothes hooks or light over the sink. I had a private bathroom but getting hot water to my shower took so long, I ended up using the shared shower down the hall. Lots of hot water! Very nice. If you are a real pill and have to have all the amenities of the most recent hotels, you might not like "Stay", but if you have traveled widely and like new experiences, I think you will enjoy your stay as much a I did.

My boyfriend and I got this hotel because it was a great price for a downtown location. I knew it would be noisy being that it's in dowtown. BUT the service was horrible. The guys working the front did not know how to give directions.. even though I had mapquest directions, I wanted to see what would be the easiest way to get there, well they made it harder. The guy gave us the completely wrong exit, wasn't friendly over the phone and didn't help. Once we got there (by the way you have to look for parking because they don't state that they don't have their own) we were confused on where to enter. Finally got in there and the staff didn't greet us or anything, we had to tell THEM we were checking in and never did they act friendly. They looked annoyed actually. This hotel has apparently been open for 9 months so I see how they still need to catch up on the small stuff. Once we found our room, it was small, but comfortable and design very modern. I loved the room. Though you do get what you pay for. You don't have breakfast, fridge, or even coffee. Other than that, it would be nice if staff notified guests upon arrival that they close they're main door and have a gate down. When returning to the hotel, we freaked out not knowing what to do! Luckily we saw that the hotel connected to them (to the right) has access to that hotel, so you have to kind of figure it out. It was very unprofessional that they do not communicate very well. They didn't even allow my friends to come up and wait for our cab to arrive. In general, good price for the room, cute, but staff needs better customer service.

The guys (lobby staff) were nice but a woman(i think she was chinese) was neither friendly nor supportive. No parking, No internet access in a room. Noisy with the traffic & siren. Very cold room and no heaer. The water in the toilet didn't stop and the sound of running water was noisy and annoying. Not enough hot water in the shower.

The only good thing about my stay was I got a room to myself even though the water from the sink came out yellow and the bathrooms stunk.

The hotel is accessible by bus from the airport.Just alit @ 7th St and Main and walk a block and there you are in Stay,LA.The staff are friently and helpful. Staff was generous with instructions on how to take the bus to go around Los Angeles and the airport. The facility is very clean. I had to clean after myself in the sense that the bathrooms are in the hallway and is shared amongst the guests on the floor. There is also no table to place the toiletries when one will take a bath. One has to bring her own caddy, otherwise there is no choice but to leave the shampoo, soap, toilet paper on the floor.

Well the hotel looked nice from the outside, it took us awhile to figure out where the lobby was it was 11pm so their lobby was closed you have to walk next door the the hotel next door to check in. So 1/2 an hour later we check in go up to our room an it had given to someone else!!! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!! The room was small an not as nice as the rooms looked at the STAY!! O well you live n learn!!

I had a 2 bed + a private bedroom. Room was clean, very modern and comfortable. Totally worth staying there. The surrounding area was disappointing at first. But there are bus and rail only a block away...very convenient since I didnt rent a car. There were Mac computers in the lobby for you to use, or you can bring your own laptop. Also, there was xbox 360 for an entertainment, Although Stay is a hostel, I think there was no different compare to those that cost more than a $100. Stay has everything I needed, except pool.

We were impressed with the price and simple style of this hotel/hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities included a good computer set up which included access to a number of desktop Apple Macs for e-mail and internet. I would definitely recommend this hotel/hostel noting however that it's best suited to younger traveller's visiting LA on a tight budget.

stay hotel in downtown, los angeles has only been open for about a month... and it's evident in the clean, modern design. the lobby staff was warm and welcoming and the rooms are a steal for the price. acting as a hostel to travelers and locals alike, stay offers private and shared rooms. the rooms are well designed with beautiful color palettes and modern amenities. the layouts are space efficient without compromising comfort.
