From North or South leave M6 at Junction 36.Follow signs to South Lakes and Kendal.This road is A590A591.Follow A591 to Windermere.Follow signs to Town Centre.Drive through village towards Bowness and Lake.This road is 'New Road'.In about 12 mile there is a Catholic Church on left.St John's Lodge is approximately 100 yards on left hand side.If you reach the Police Station you have gone too far!If you reach the Lake you have definitely gone too far!Turn round and retrace your steps.

Stayed two nights and loved it!We stayed two nights and really enjoyed our stay.. used the wifi, which was great.. The breakfast was excellent in the morning and its just a perfect distance into bowness to walk on an evening.. and 'm not a fan of walking normally. We had a basement room wich i belive was the budget room and it was plenty good enough with two windows and a comfy bed.. The shower room wasn't massive but was plenty big enough and we found the room to be clean. We would and will definatly stay again..

Best in The LakesThe first thing you notice when arriving at St John's is how friendly the owners are. The room (I booked a budget room) was modern, warm and cosy. The place is immaculately clean - corridors, bedroom and dining room. I agree with most other reviewers that what makes this place outstanding is the choice and quality of breakfasts. Such a pleasure to have quality juices, smoothies etc as well as superb home made bread. The cooked veggie breakfast was simply delicious. Will definitely return to enjoy this unique hospitality.

Nice, clean and convenientThe guest house provides nice and clean accomodation. We stayed in the budget room which was pretty basic but fine. We took our own iron but later received a memo on our bed telling us there was one upsatirs we could have used - felt a bit like i'd been told off! How was i supposed to guess that when it wasn't stated on their website :~ I chose this place because of the vege breakfast menu but what i didnt know in advance was that if you didn't want the full english breakfast you had to make your choice before 7pm the night before [although i forgot and they still managed to accomodate my request despite it beign 8pm when i told them] - not great for people like me who like to chose what to eat depending on how they feel when they wake up! This guesthouse is in a great location and only a 10 min walk from the lake. W-fi access is great and there was planety of on-road parking.

Adequate accommodationReceived an email from the hotel prior to visit which was positive and friendly. Hotel bathroom very small although had booked what was supposed to be larger room. Was not much room for putting away clothes or leaving suitcases but was adequate for short stay but would not want to stop for longer.Only 2 parking spaces outside hotel with a bus stop layby across the road where we parked but think in summer parking would be very difficult.Choice of breakfasts very extensive which makes this hotel stand out from the hundreds of others in the area.Would stop again for weekend break.

Our lovely stay at St Johns LodgeThe welcome was very friendly and we thought the hotel was delightful and was spotlessly clean. The breakfast choices were phenomenal. We have never had such a choice! We would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to anybody.

We arrived a little late on check in night due to a unavoidable delay on the motorway and the landlady was not impressed. The food was very good and the hotel in general was very clean. There are a lot of rules like everyone has to be in by 12.30am and breakfast is only served from 8.30 to 9.15. Overall though it is a nice place and the owners were very friendly.

Lovely little bnb in the Lakes, delicious food.Nice little lodge, walking distance from the nearest town and the Lake. Room not huge but totally sufficient, nice and clean as well. The food was wonderful, really enjoyed breakfast both days and appreciated the large range on offer. Would definitely stay again.

Perfectly placed hotel for visiting both Windermere and Bowness. The accomodation was clean and comfortable. The food at breakfast was perfect and filled you up for the day. I would visit this hotel again.

The welcome we received was extremely nice. The room was small but immaculately clean and warm. The shower was powerful and the water hot. The breakfast was extremely tasty and there was an unbelievable choice, including vegetarian and Gluten-free. Very friendly and well worth the price we paid. Also you have access to gym/spa across the road, although we didn't use these facilites so cannot comment on the quality.

Have stayed at many B & Bs in this area and this is without doubt the best. The place is perfectly located midway between Windermere and Bowness. Our room was clean and extremely comfortable. The highlight of the stay as many others have said is certainly the breakfasts. The breakfast buffet has high quality fresh juices , smoothies etc (not your usual concentrates), fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt and home made breads. With a choice of 35 cooked dishes, people who know and love food can't help but be impressed. I had the full English. It was cooked to perfection and you could tell they had used quality products ( I actually bought some sausages from the local butcher who supplies the hotel and took them home with me). My wife had porridge followed by home made fish cakes - they were divine. Altogether a lovely experience and great value for money. I highly recommend.

Just came back after a sunny week in Windermere. The B&B was very nice and spacious. Our room was the £80 value at the second floor and was quoted as 'the best'. Indeed it was, except for the bed which was very hard and kept me awake. It is advisable to ask for the rooms which are not at the street as these can be noisy. The breakfast area is tiny and the tables very restrictive. They advertise the ‘biggest breakfast selection’ however we just chose the traditional English, but the bacon was hard and the sausages had funny taste so it didn't do it for me. Apart from the breakfast and the bed which I didn’t enjoy I can say that the hotel was well positioned from the amenities in Bowness. However, for this price I rather be able to sleep and have a better english breakfast!

This was an ideal break for us to escape children and celebrate anniversary. We were especially impressed by the cleanliness of the room and superb quality of the food. Value for money was excellent and the location is great as a base to visit surrounding areas or just to stay and use facilities in Windermere. Would highly recommend to anybody, had a marvellous time!
