Description:
he St Denys Hotel in York has been owned by the same family since it first opened its doors twenty years ago. Throughout this time an international reputation for friendly service has been built. Many visitors return again and again. We are proud of our reputation and look forward to welcoming you for the first time. St Denys Hotel has an enviable location within the walls of the historic City of York. Like all really old cities, York is compact, St Denys Hotel offers the ideal base from which to explore this beautiful city, at your leisure. St Denys Hotel was originally the rectory of the ancient parish church of St Denys and has religious associations dating from Roman times. The first Christian church was probably built on the current site before the Norman conquest.A 'Church of St Denys' certainly existed there by 1154 and parts of this Norman church can still be seen in the present building which also contains one of the finest collections of medieval stained glass in York. At The St Denys we offer free onsite parking to our guests. Please note that the car park is small with limited spaces ad if offered on a first come first serve basis.

we stayed here for a weekend to visit our son in the university, we had a pleasant room with a four poster bed and en-suit bathroom with jacuzzie bath, which i really enjoyed and dident expect. location was good with parking limited but directly opposit is st denys church and parking is two pounds per night (6pm-8am)not bad. food was plentiful at this hotel and the staff were very friendly, with good manners.which counts for a lot these days. i would stay here again and can not talk for the other rooms but ours was clean warm andfresh, thanks to all staff we spoke to during our stay we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. it's not the rits but we dident pay rits prices and got rits services.

Average stayThe hotel staff on the whole were pleasent, although the stress of breakfast time seemed to leave them very flustered. On arrival we were informed that the hotel was undergoing refurbishment to the restaurant and bar and would therefore be closed, the bar had been a reason for booking this particular hotel. No reduction in room price was made to reflect this which we felt should have been offered. Our room was very noisey due to being by the front door, we could here guests returning late at night, but more noticeably the staff arriving for work in the morning setting up for breakfast. We were grafeful not to be the room next to the breakfast room! The room was clean and fairly comfortable but in need of refurbishment which we were told would be happening in due course. The breakfast was a bit hit and miss, sometimes there were elements unavailable, guests often had to ask for things to be replenished on their tables as well as the communual parts. On our last morning we were forgotten and had to ask to order breakfast as well as asking for our drinks/toast as also forgotten. The car park was small and if you were last in you were sent to pay and display car parks without refund, you often had to move your car several times if the unfortunate last ones to get space. According to the advert a car park was available, we feel this should be changed to 'limited' parking available.

Kind Hotel ExperienceIt was a little surprising and worrying to find the lounge and bar closed for some refurbishment on arrival. The receptionist assured us that all would be ok in the morning for breakfast and the room was unaffected. The incident did not ruin an enjotable stay.

The hotel is going through some refurbishments at the moment ,which is what it needs. When we pulled up to outside the hotel we were a bit worried because of the condition of it .But they seem to be trying to put that right, the staff are very friendly,The room we stayed in was a bit small, the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom (which is a first)The carpet could have done with a hoovering but other than that the room was fine the bedding was nice, fresh and comfy the towels were fresh, we found the hotel in the early hours of the morning to be noisy through people coming back late and having no consideration for the other guests(which is not the hotels fault) Also noisy in the mornings. If you are not an early riser this is not the place to be.Banging doors and people talking in the corridor loudly why!!! The breakfast is mammoth and very tasty. The car park is small but we managed to get the car on, they also let us leave the car there on the day of our departure so we could have a last look round which is very good. All in all for one night only which it was for us, it is ideal. There would be no way I could have stayed for a week, we like peace and quiet! Ideal location walking distance to the centre and shops.Would stay there again.

On the doorstep of YorkI choose the St Denys due to its location being a few hundred yards from the centre of York. This is a 5 miniute walk to the high streets, shops and markets. There is a small car park at the hotel, where the car stayed for the duration of our stay. We had a great time at York there is so much to do that we could not fit it all in the three days we were there, with St Deny's being the ideal place to stay as we could just wander back to get changed and walk straight back to the city. The Minster, museums, and coutless restaurants (i'd reccomend nineteen) and bars are all in easy reach from the St Denys and not having to bother with parking made the trip a lot easier. There was a little issue with the room we were given, it was next to the road and traffic was infrequent but quite load. We are light sleepers and the staff were very helpful when I mentioned this and moved us straightaway to a room at the back. Rooms are furnished well with a flatscreen TV, and the basic essentials, including ensuite bathroom wih bath, shower, etc. I believe that the hotel is going through a revamp soon and I was shown some of the new rooms, which look fantastic. When we return to York, to finish exploring the city, we will definitely return to the St Denys.

Great room, nice location. Our room was very nice with one minor problem that was taken care of very quickly. We were the first to stay in our unit after conversion to a hotel room and experienced some plumbing problems the first night of a four night stay. The problem was quickly addressed by the friendly staff and did not detract from our stay.

Everything we look for from a hotel in York : car park, quiet location yet 5 minutes walk to shops, comfortable rooms & a superb breakfast

The room was comfortable but as it was on the main road, it was noisy. Double glazing would be ideal. The bathroom could have been cleaner especially around the edges of the shower. The toilet paper was poor and I expected better quality for the price we were paying. (little things can make a difference!) The door to the room was awful. I had difficulty opening and closing the door and would recommend that this be fixed. However, the food and service at breakfast was great.

City BreakStayed at St Deny's hotel with my wife and young daughter for one night. Hotel was quite good for the low price but was understaffed, the bar was closed for the week and the breakfast was a little greasy and the baked beans were of a very cheap brand. However, it was a good central base for a one night visit to York and I would stay there again due to its low price and good central location. It does offer parking which is a bonus in York. Overall I would give it 7 out of ten.

comfy bedsClean & friendly hotel. Very well situated for centre of town. Own car park. Breakfast was very good. The most comfy beds I have ever slept on. We wanted a twin room but found we were allocated a double by mistake but they changed it on arrival to a family room without any bother. The pipes were a little noisy when water was turned on but it only lasted a short while.Very helpful staff.

Hotel is a little dated but staff informed us that they have just started the refurbishment. Staff were very accomodating and went out of the way to sort out things for our 2 month old son by giving us a larger room and sorting out travel cots etc. Room we had didnt have a bath so it was difficult bathing child but we managed!Staff were on hand to inform us about what to do and where to go in the city centre. Value for money was excellent, would recommend this place to anyone who wants a clean and reasonably priced accomodation close to the city centre (2-3min walk to the shambles)
