The Sourdough Lodge is near but not in the downtown section of Anchorage. The neighborhood is not the best, but not really bad. Our room was large (actually a two-bedroom suite with a kitchen), but was not well-supplied. We had no soap, and no cups/glasses of any sort. The kitchen contained no utensils or dishes (they were possibly available for rental, but we were only there one night and needed only the standard drinking glasses.) The hotel may be a great value for a family looking for a large place to stay with kitchen facilities, but was not the best choice for an overnight stay.

front door lock didn't work, no soap, no towels, on the wrong side of the tracks. I wish I had read the two previous reviews before going to alaska!

The Sourdough Lodge did meet everything that was advertised. This lodge was mainly for longer term residents and the facilities have been used hard. The laundry, which seemed to serve as storage for building supplies and equipment waiting for repair was not very clean. Our unit's arrangement was eclectic at best. Window shades were in tatters.

Wretched excuse for a facility. Closet doors falling off, bed in the living room instead of sofa, housekeeping takes the weekends off, and ""manager"" leaves for hours in the middle of the day, can't be reached after nine and makes pitiful excuses and blames his customers for legitimate problems with rooms.

We had to track down the manager just to check in. The area was bleak, dark and scary. Dingy, dirty. The room and appliances were old. They had made an effort to clean up cosmetically, but we could see under the refrigerator, behind the furniture that it was antique dirt. At least the sheets were clean - if they weren't, I don't want to know it. They didn't clean our room the next morning. There was no food or snacks, just a drink machine outside by the parking lot. It wasn't a good value at all!

place is converted old apartments. Run down and would not stay again, rather sleep in car. ""bait and switch"" rings a bell.

This hotel was cheap. Check in was a problem. Had to go across the street to a gas station to call for check in. Room had all that is claimed, but maintenance is poor. Carpet was dirty, paint peeling on walls, radiators dusty. Parking is limited. No amenities like an ice machine or vending machines. Neighborhood is quiet. Choices for dining are very limited in the immediate area. Most facilities are a short drive away. I don't plan to stay at this motel again.

Sourdough is located just outside one of the Elmendorf AFB entry gates--so security is good. It's primarily designed for weekly and montly stays, especially transient housing for military folks as they sign in or out of their duty station and await or clear base housing. Very roomy, cable TV, old construction, but clean and inexpensive. For less than $65 a night (I stayed for two), I got a small one-bedroom apartment with a queen bed in the bedroom and a king bed in the living room. Full kitchen, but no coffee pot!
