This hotel was amazing! We arranged so we'd be picked up from the airport by a Gray Line Shuttle (horrible driver!). We had to drop off a group of really friendly girls first and their hotel looked beautiful but we noticed it was not even in walking distance from the main scene (Cabo Wabo, the marina, Squid Row, flea markets, etc). So we drop them off and drive through the main street and go up a huge hill to our hotel. We are amazed. When you go up our hill we are the last stop so it's wonderful! The only down was that it was on a huge hill. Great walking down deathly walking up! It was a great work out so we didn't use the hotel gym. Three fantasic pools, an ocean view from every angle! You couldn't swim in the ocean but that was not a big downer for us. Rooms were beautiful and you're given a map for easy locating. But take a bell boy it's worth the tip you SHOULD give. We were just being cheap. HUGE shower and bathroom only bad was that the window didn't open and there was no vent. Beautiful ocean view from balcony and only 300 feet from a pool. The staff were veeerrrry nice. I believe her name was Xaviera, she was the nicest one. Very helpful!!! The person in charge of Acitivity Desk seemed to not have a lot of knowledge about activities and seemed to have to force his niceness. But like I said that woman was very helpful. I am staying there next time for sure. The only place else I would stay would probably be the hotel directly beneath it because they were lower on the hill.

1. Check in and out at the front desk was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The first appearance of the hotel was very clean and well maintained. This hotel is currently being remodeled a section at a time, but I thought it looked great. 2. The room was very clean. It appeared to have just been updated. Everything in the room and bathroom worked well. Beds comfortable, nice view of the ocean. 3. Swimming pool and beach. This is one of the nicest beaches in Cabo. Swimming pool was well maintained and very clean. 4. We did not eat at the resturant, but we did frequent the pool bar. The service at the bar was very poor, in contrast to everywhere else at the hotel. We were not the only people to complain. We would walk in and sit down and, in our opinion, be ignored. Two or three times we had to leave the table and ask for service direct from the bar tender. This was not due to a lack of waiters, they were on site, but preferred to talk to each other than take care of the tables. The bar food was very good once you got it. Follow up service was almost non-existant. I don't like to wave arms or talk loud to get service, but had little choice at this bar.

We were pleasently surprised when we arrived at the Solmar. Our room was very large (kitchen area, stove, refig & microwave) & very clean, had a wonderful balcony with a beaufiful view of the ocean. We sat on the balcony every morning with our coffee & watched the whales & stingrays, it was wonderful. There is an older part of the hotel, the rooms are a bit smaller & a little older but are right on the sandy beach. This is not a party hotel, but you can walk to town for that. We truly enjoyed the Solmar.

Solmar was perfect for me. I had fantastic views and could hear the ocean waves crash throughout the night. I had a cozy yet simple room where I could stock pile my own water and snacks I bought from a local Walmart and CostCo. I loved the beach walks and I was able to run from the hotel around town and down to the marina without any problem. The staff was able to ask all my questions. I went to Cabo because I have friends and family who live there so I am quite independent. It really suited me quite fine. I had my own car and went to the restaurants we like. I just ignored the timeshare offers, etc. Those salespeople are everywhere - at the airport and hotel. I was told they are aggressive but I found them to be acceptable and polite. Maybe they sould just tell I had no interest in my body language.

We got a junior suite great room along the beach, the ones right along the water. The resort has been around a while and you can see the age in some places but the rooms were more than comfortable. No construction noise. We are young and don't require opulence; if you require the best and are a needy person you might look else where. We were on a budget and this was great for us. We did not do all inclusive as we wanted to eat in the city and try new things so can't comment on the one restaurant. The two pools were great, nice swim up tikki bars. Didn't have to wake up early to get a spot. Nice large jacuzzi that was hot at all times. Amazing beach access. Unfortunately since it's on the pacific side the beach is not safe to swim in. Not a big deal for us. Some people complained about the size of the beach sand granules, get a life. It is a little course, get over it, it's sand. Our biggest annoyance was the 10-15 min walk to the Marina. The staff were very helpful. When you get dressed up and don't want to walk the taxi is 6-10 USD each way. I was surprised, more than NYC prices. In general Cabo is WAYYY over priced, more than USA on many tourist things. Boihai restaurant (associated with hotel) was amazing sushi. Snorkeling at Lover's Beach was the highlight of our trip. We did a time share presentation: took 3 hours and got $100 meal vouchers, $66 for cabs to and from airport... you decide if it's worth your time, high pressure sales, don't believe the lies of low pressure. Great experience, would recommend.

It's the best place ever. This was my first time in Cabo, and I will definently go again and stay at Solmar.

Got here and the staff were very gracious and friendly. We were offered a room next door (same hotel owners). We went there for 3 nights and back here for final night. Both hotels were well cared for and had great service the whole time we were there. The chef at hotel next door made a dinner for us with my catch of Wahoo that day. Excellent meal. I wasn't disappointed at all with anything there. It could use a little more lighting on the sidewalks at night.

We stayed at the Solmar for our honeymoon. The room we stayed in was not the most up to date. The room could use a paint job. The bath room could use some attention but, it is the best bang for the buck. The location is perfect! Every day we saw whales swimming by our room. We enjoyed our very short walk to the marina. We loved the $2 a person ride to down town. We were not hassled to attend a time share presentation at our hotel. The staff remembered our names by the end of our first day. The most memorable thing about our stay was the sound of waves breaking. While in our room we had the door to the lanai open the entire time. The sound was soothing. The rooms are not the greatest but, the location is!

Amazing if you are the type who does not like the huge resort feel - private and secluded on the beautiful Pacific - hike over the rocks and swim in the Sea of Cortez - I can;t wait to get back there!

If you are looking for a non-commercial, true Mexico experience, this is your place. I have stayed at Mar De Cortez (budget) to Playa Grande (expensive) and I find this spot to be perfect. My husband and I have stayed in October for the birthday bash, August for vacation, and New Year's... everytime we have the same fabulous experience. Right on the ocean... you can't swim, but there are 3 pools. We enjoy happy hour daily from 3-5 and the poolside food is delicious. About a 10 minute walk to town around the marina. If you need the Ritz this isn't your place, but great for layed back folks who enjoy cocktails and relaxing.

People went out of there way to help, very friendly. only problem was at the bar, it took forever to get a drink and it was clear that we were an inconvenience...

When taking the virtual tour on-line, the Ocean Front Deluxe Suite really isn't what it appears. Very dishonest. We booked and paid for a ocean front room, when we arrived they put us in a room facing a cliff, all the way in the back by the water treatment site. No view what so ever, couldn't see the ocean at all. After pushing hard for 2 days, we were moved into an ocean front room which is less expensive, and small, they refused credit us back for the difference. Hotel is very clean, safe. Restaurant service is bad 45 min to get water.. Time share breakfast was good, but they don't tell you that's what it is, very deceptive. Drinks are expensive and watered down. Won't ever go back. They are owned by Playa del Grande next door. Beautiful property.

The staff at Solmar were some of the friendliest on earth. They were the most helpful when any questions arose. The maintainance of the grouds was spectacular! I've never seen such beautiful surroundings in my life! The room was comfortable, the housekeeping staff maintained it day and night! The food at the onsite resturants was great (try the nacho's!!!) Only downfall was the price of the food. You will spend at least $150+ per day for a couple! Also check to see if your cell phone will work there before your arrival, the phone cards are a rip off, $20.00 for 42 minutes, and after your first 5 minute call the odds of you having 10 minutes left are high! You are on the pacific side of the ocean so you can not swim at the beach, but the view of the waves is worth it! The swimable beach is not far by water taxi! All in all I will be returning! Our honeymoon was PRICELESS!!!

"The hotel was not quite as good as the 4.8 rating stated. The rooms are adequate. The housekeeping was just above mediocre. Although the common areas of the property are spotless. Pool area was nice and service was good. The location, secluded, was the best thing about this hotel. The oceanview rooms, which are in need of updating, offered exceptional views of the Pacific. In spite of the negatives, I would stay there again."

We were inundated with time share people. At the airport we ran the gauntlet of time share, at the car rental they gave us this guy to give us directions to Solmar and we couldn't get away from him, trying to nail us down to a time we could see their property, TIME SHARE. Then, we were told our keys weren't ready go see the gal in the lobby for our welcome drink certificate and I just had to walk away to stop her time share spiel. It's fine if they ask, but NONE of them took no for an answer, we just had to walk away to stop the madness. We didn't have chairs on the beach, because you can't go in the ocean at this location due to riptide, so you can't sit on the beach. But it was a nice view, just of no use. The room is billed as a suite, there was a frig and microwave, but no kings available on lower floor, this place is set up for their time share holders, everybody else is just a potential victim to the time share mania.

"What a great little place. The ocean right off the balcony, the pools with swim up bars, the view from the outdoor restaruant was perfect. Town is a short walk away but really liked just hanging here."
