You get what you pay for6 of us shared a room containing 3 bunk beds. The room was clean and adequate for one night but we were above the bar which played extremely loud music until past 1am. We could hear it most clearly in the bathroom and toilet but one frined was unable to sleep due to the volume. She asked for some money back the morning after but they flately refused.

Stag WeekendSmart City Hostel offers excellent accomodation for stag/hen weekends in edinburgh. Rooms were large (we booked two 6 bed rooms and were given two 8 bed rooms) and clean, good facilities within the hostel (cheap bar and a good breakfast).

Smartcity hostels EdinburghRoom and hotel very good. Lively place, good for young people and those wanting a good cheaper place to stay. Only critiscism is that load music was played continuously throughout the hotel even in the reception, making conversation with reception difficult and the booking of a taxi from the provided phone near impossible.

Excellent no fuss accomodationBetter than I expected from a hostel, no frills, no fuss, but clean and affordable in the centre of town. Would happily return.

I thought this hostel was excellent, it was better than some hotels that i've stayed in. It is ideal for a group of friends who are away for the weekend

it could have been much betterLocation of hostel is very central, personnel very friendly but not able to cope with the amount of people staying in the hostel at that particular night. Room was not cleaned, toilet rolls were missing, air velntilation was not working. For people travelling with their own means (car, motorbike) no parking place available. I would only recommend it to people who do not care about details.

nice hostel with good locationnear the railway station, about 5 min walk (beware the steep slope/ stairs. it takes a while from the station to the hostel if you're carrying heavy luggages). close to restaurants, bars and shops. it's a new hostel so the amenities are tidy and clean. the hostel is pretty large w/ many rooms. we'd booked a private room for 2 and they gave us 2 bunk-bed room for 4 without extra charge. the down side is it was noisy in the middle of the night even though we were facing the back street. we needed to close the window. the lounge/cafe is cosy w/ lots of couches. it's good for hang out. they also got pool table and wii and people were playing guitar hero for fun. the kitchen is a bit small compares w/ the size of the hostel. it's quite crowded for more than 2 groups of guests cooking at the same time. free wifi is available but not working very well. we couldn't log on at all and ended up using paid internet. hope they'll fix that. over all it's a nice hostel in a good location w/ resonable price.

First Time HostellerHad booked a four bed room but, on arrival, was put into a huge eight bed, double ensuite! Being a \"virgin\" hosteller I wan't expecting too much but was very pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. I certainly didn't expect the luxury of shower/shampoo gel, hair conditioner, hand wash and hand cream dispensers that were in both en-suites.Would certainly stay here again when in Edinburgh as location was perfect and room very comfortable.

Smartcity hostel EdinburghThere was 4 females in our group aged from 26 to 50, all thought it was excellent, only complaint was the full breakfast was stone cold and you had to ask for butter, jam, cutlery as they were not being refilled, but the rooms, the reception and hot water excellent, easy to find and in the centre, i min off the royal mile, bar man miserable, but you can't have everything Lol.

This hostel was great and there were 5 of us staying for 1 night and we have all said we would definitely use it again. It was cheap and cheerful. I will say this much about the hostel and that is that I have stayed in many hotels over the years and the cleanliness of the hostel was one of the best. Carpet was rather wet though as it had obviously just been cleaned and they had not recieved our booking but still managed to find us a room. Great night was had by all!!!

The room was good we were 4 people in tha room and they had provided us a big room with 6 beds. So it was more spacious. The room provided by them was very good and very clean i didnt expcet any hostels providing such a good facillity, also the breakfast provided by them was good. In over all i would rate them 9 out of 10.

We had problem with room window which was temporarily fixed by staff but no permanent fix was provided. Staff was not aware of this problem till we reported.Otherwise the place was very good to stay.

I stayed here with a group of friends for one night on a night out. The six bed private ensuite room was clean with modern interior and despite being just off the royal mile (excellent location) it was also very quiet. Breakfast was very good and the facilities (guest kitchen, bar, internet access etc) would be good for those having longer stays. However, we paid 19 pound a head through late rooms, but I believe the price direct through the hostel was nearing 600 quid which is madness! So the private room with breakfast is ace but only if you can get a good price, cue late rooms...

Fabulous if you are a student or on a budget. The bunk beds were \"interesting\" for a couple having a weekend away - was advertised as a twin room! Food and cleanliness was excellent.
