Nice breakfast. Needs more smoke free rooms. We wanted a smoke free room and got a smoking room which smelled. We had several families staying there that also had smoking rooms that had wanted smoke free. They need more smoke free rooms. Other than that it was fine.

When we checked in the room smelled like someone had been smoking in there just minutes before. There were cigarette ashes on the carpet and on the furniture. When I complained to the front desk they did not offer to do anything about it. They just said they didn't have another room for us. Then we discovered that an ashtray full of cigarette butts had been dumped into the toilet, which stunk and clogged up the toilet. Never again!

We only stayed one night, and were pleased overall. Rooms were mostly clean save for a few fingerprints on metal surfaces (I'm being really picky here). The walls weren't really thick and you could hear a bit of the other guests' TV's but it wasn't a big deal. The breakfast was decent for 89 a night; they had nice strong coffee, juice, fruit, bagels, oatmeal, smallish muffins, cold cereal, and waffles. No eggs or sausage---guess that is too much to offer at this price point. Oh yes they did have 4 ounce yogurts. I did notice that the dining area chairs were upholstered, unfortunately with children's hands they are definitely going to get totally grungy, and the staff must have a hard time getting them clean. I asked the mgr about this and she said they clean the upholstered part once a week, but still they look, well, dirty. I hope they can get new chairs or reupholster them, because all in all, we enjoyed our stay, and will stay there again. (However, don't eat at the Chinese place next door--for best dinner ideas check out nearby North Liberty or that area. Not much in Mt Vernon save Subway and DQ).

Lobby & breakfast was nice. Rooms were not cramped. Hallways and staircases were not cleaned. Was disappointed when we returned to the room late the second evening and found that the maid had only made the bedspread, not the bed. The sheets and blankets underneath the bedspread were just as we left them that morning. I had to remake the bed to go to sleep. Extremely disappointing! Even Motel 6 remakes the beds daily. Makes me wonder what else was undone or covered up. Also, the whole time we were there, they never cleaned up the dead insects in the halls (and there were many!) and there was the same fast food trash out in the hall across from our room the whole time we stayed at the hotel. Otherwise it was a pleasant hotel.

Great hotel--surprising find in a small town. Room (a wheelchair-accessible one, though lacked roll-in shower) was large and very comfortable, with refrigerator and safe. Nice lobby, free breakfast (waffles + continental). Staff very friendly. Surrounded by cornfields, walkable to everything in town, including Cornell College.
