For the price the Sheraton Rio was wonderful. The view we had was an outstanding ocean front. The room was very clean and thebedswere extremelly comfortable. There was an in-room safe and money exchange was available and the rates were very good. Breakfast was expensive but was a buffet with all you could eat and was very nice. You could get just coffee/tea and bread, butter, cheese, fruit for less by asking. The hotel stored our luggage both when we arrived and the day we left with no problem. Car fare to go into town was expensive and a taxi is much cheaper, but makesure you ask the price before getting in. Some taxis are not metered.

Staff was really friendly and attentive and the amenities were top. The outside of the hotel building itself was not very attractive and could use some refurbishment. At first glance, the hotel was not very attractive. The exterior of the building could use a coat of paint at the very least. But one you enter the building, it was bright, modern and the staff was attentive and cheerful.

Traveled with Viking Tours to the hotel which was marketed as a 5 Star hotel - It wasn't. The hotel was poorly maintained. Wall paper coming off walls, carpets soiled, bathroom fixtures not completely attached, sheets torn, arms of chairs in lobby falling apart and doors not maintailed. More equivalent to a very poor Quality inn. Staff was helpful with the exception of the fitness center where I was ejected for wearing jeans. Will not be using Sheraton in the future for Business or Pleasure as they do not respond to submitted complaints.

Since the hotel sits away from any commercial area, they can captively overcharge for food. I would recommend a hotel on Copacabana or Ipanema as better value. The rooms include breakfast and you have a wide variety of restuarant options available within walking distance.

I wish they included breakfast with it.

Beach & pool setting was best in Rio. $4 overcharge on mini-bar. Bathtub didn't work right. Rear of hotel is on a semi-private beach. Pools, beach, 2 restaurants, bar, & tennis in a beautiful setting. Unlike all the hotels on Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach, you don't have to cross a highway to access the beach here at the Sheraton. Free shuttle to Ipanema, Copacabana and a huge shopping mall.

Beachfront and very clean. Not the room I was expecting and too much tax 2 pay. Overall good, but an inconvenient location. It is further away then most and close to the not as nice neighborhoods is close by which makes it a bit dangerous.

The hotel is located far away from any of the ""scene""in Rio.The staff is very unaccomodating,,meals and drinks are very expensive, and one gets the feeling of being""nowhere"".

Private beach. Check in only at 3:00 pm and check out at noon sharp! I don't think it's fair that we pay a daily fare to stay at the hotel and stay only 21 hours. Not only they were not flexible on check in and check out times but also tried to (wisely) charge for the room! The same also happened to my brother. Also, restaurant prices and room service were absurd!

The location is unique in Rio but, it comes at a price. Yes it is priced as any Sheraton in a major city but, you will pay with the poor room conditions; excessive elevator waiting time; the eye sore of the huge "favela" slums climbing the hill right across the street from the hotel and, the "hotel beach" constantly taken by the inhabitants of the slums.Choose only beach-front rooms. Low level floor room proved ran down unacceptable. Accept only high floor rooms. I requested to look other rooms 3 times before settling for final room I took. Neverthless, the A/C did not work well and the bathroom sink and bathtub had partially clogged drains. The TV was at least 20 years old and very small for the room. The location however is precious. There is no other hotel property in the Rio metropolitan area with beach direct access, ocean view with unobstructed views of Guanabara bay and, proximity to Rio's "Zona Sul" posh neighborhoods. I strongly recommend it for a family stay but, there are better and newer hotels at Barra da Tijuca and Sao Conrado beaches that would suit best in a short business stay.

Views and beach were the best in Rio. The area around the hotel is a slum and it is a mile to town. We enjoyed the beach and the value for the room was good. The prices for food and merchandise were very high. We felt isolated and we would likely stay at a hotel on the beach in the city next time.

The hotel is not near anything, but I was happy with the location. It is the only hotel that is on the beach. It is a quiet beach without the constant vendor traffic. You can go to the other beaches for the day. I enjoyed watching the locals that came to the hotel beach. There are no places to eat near the hotel but you can take the local bus or a taxi in front of the hotel to get wherever you want to go. Stay in one of the hotels on the main street in Leblon.

Rio is a beautiful city destroyed by graffiti on all the buildings in this city. The local hotels waste run-off pollutes the beaches. Everything is way over priced and all the buildings in downtown Rio are secured by bars to keep the local gangs from robbing the tourist and the locals that are staying in them.

"Location is isolated but within walking distance to Ipanema/Leblon. We should have requested a high floor overlooking downtown. Our 7th floor room overlooked the parking lot. Not all rooms are ""ocean view"" as advertised-baloncies are only large enough to stand on. Very nice hotel, but if first visit, consider staying in a hotel in Copa or Ipanema -- this hotel is to far from stores & restaurants. About Rio: it is a big city on the beach. If you travel from the USA, choose at least one other South American city/country to visit."
