Kauai is paradise! plenty of hidden beaches and waterfalls. Make sure you do some research and plan out your stay before traveling. My only problem with the hotel were the price of the drinks. Beers $7 and tropical drinks $11. Sounds like a ripoff. Other than that great place to stay.

Big rooms and beautiful beach front. Our room smelled funny. Our first trip to Hawaii, we island hopped, and saved Kauai for last. I got a good deal on Priceline for the Sheraton. We were back in the garden area, which was fine, it was very quiet. The rooms were large, well appointed, the staff was helpful, the grounds were gorgeous, and the pool and beach areas were great. Poipu public beach adjoins the property. The biggest negative we had was that our room smelled funny. I know, it's the islands, but none of our other hotels smelled weird, like a grapefruit rotted in there and they couldn't quite get the smell out. It wasn't terrible, but for an expensive resort, it was unexpected. Free parking is on the side of the resort, and the lagoon area buildings are set across the street from the oceanfront buildings, so you may have a bit of a walk to get around. Free lobby computers. The food, and every other little thing, is resort priced.

We stayed at the Sheraton in early April and really enjoyed it. We started out in the partial ocean view room, but when we found a big cricket in the room they upgraded us to full ocean view for free. Ocean view rooms are much nicer, and the view is great. Room ratings based on ocean view. Not much nightlife at this hotel, or on this island in general. Everybody is pretty much in their room by 9:00pm. We didn't eat much at the hotel as we were generally out doing things. We did have their breakfast buffet each day, which was excellent, although a little pricey, at $20/person. There are also some decent restaurants right up the road in "old-town Koloa", not real high-end but some good local flavor. We also heard the beach house down the road was good, although we didn't make it there in the few days we had. We were on Kauai for 3 days, and then in Oahu (Waikiki beach) for 4 days. These two islands are very different. Kauai has the natural beauty and some really unbelievable views, although the waves on the beaches tend to be pretty rough for swimming. Oahu has the nightlife and always has something to do, and the beaches are a lot more "beginner friendly", with gentle waves and shallow water. The pools and hot-tub at the Sheraton were small but decent. They say they close at 9:00pm, although we used them until 10:00 or 11:00 and nobody bothered us. The torches at night add a special touch of the island. The tennis courts were also decent. The staff were friendly, and we booked a couple tours through the travel desk. Be careful of the Napali beach boat tour. It was beautiful but VERY rough. Bring your dramamine.

My husband and I got a quick, romantic getaway trip to Kaui. We loved the Sheraton room we stayed in and it had an amazing view of the ocean splashing on lava rocks with plenty of palm trees. The sunsets were so gorgeous. The food at their restaurants was delicious. The swordfish dish is beyond amazing! The staff are very friendly and helpful and the whole resort is so friendly. The beach is perfect to swim in and some snorkeling near by. Make sure you drive up the Napali Coast and hike. It's breathtaking! We liked to snorkel near "the Beach" restaurant where they feed the fish. We saw such colorful fish. We would definetly stay here again. Maholo!

We loved everything about the hotel, except the $17 per day "resort fee" which covers self-parking, internet access, workout center, etc. Since we pretty much used only the parking, it seemed excessive. We stayed in the garden wing which has smaller rooms, but we loved the quiet, the morning garden fragrances and easy access to the quieter swimming pool, plus we don't spend much time in the room on beach vacations. The staff was one of the friendliest anywhere. We spent 12 days and loved it, with every other day at the beach/pool/hotel, and other days driving to great snorkeling/swimming beaches up north, which are better in summer months. Swimming at the Sheraton beach in summer is not for the meek, as the trade winds make it rough and wild. We enjoyed watching the surfing, boogie boarding, and people-watching. All in all, a great vacation and great hotel on the sunny, warm side of the island (20" rainfall a year).

Rooms were comfortable, staff was pleasant and hotel was well located. Chunks of plaster missing from pool. The Sheraton Poipu is showing its age. Room appear to be recently renovated, are very comfortable but the public areas are worn and in desperate need of an update. The pool is literally falling apart. The fitness center is serviceable. We wanted to have a drink at the hotel's only bar on a Saturday night but were told we had to pay a $10 cover they are trying to make it work as an area nightclub. The grounds are beautiful, well maintained and we would stay here again for the price we paid, but we don't need a plush resort experience.

We (family of 4 with two active boys) just came back from a week in Kauai. The hotel is in a perfect location. The beach area, the point, and the monk seals are the attractions. It is also a great area to start a morning walk. The hotel grounds are large and beautifully maintained. The staff was accomodating. Upon arrival ,we received a warm welcome with leis. The hotel room was clean, decorated nicely, and up to date. Yet, our garden view room was small for a two double bed hotel room. There is no armoire or dresser to put clothes in for four people. So, we used the shelf above the closet. The garden view room, 4th floor, Building 4, had a beautiful view overlooking the ponds and the ocean in the distance. Although the short walk to the ocean was across the road between the ocean wing and the garden wing, it wasn't an issue with us. The pool by the ocean is fine. It has two levels and a slide for the kids. The jacuzzui is ridiculously small. The outdoor bar area had various lunch items, fruit, great smoothies and alcoholic beverages. The Shells restaurant was a bust! We had a beautiful view but the food was way overpriced, and just ok. The kids eat free is "the lure". Don't take it. Instead, eat at "The Point" which is right next door. The food is better, the service is good and the view is just as nice. We also ate at Keioke's /sp?/ in the Whalers Village which was excellent - great assortment of fresh fish, great atmosphere, and children's meals are $6.00.

the most laid back relaxing facility you could imagine. slow paced island. spend most of your time in kauai. the facility is top notch. the luau was fantastic. 2 hour show. great food. they have a nightclub on site. they have a nightly free mai tai reception with entertainment. they have a good fitness room facing the beach. have the sushi buffet on saturday. the concierge was very helpful. drive around the entire island and see everything. you need at least 5 days. free yoga class. the rooms are fine. very comfortable bed and very quiet. great star gazing. 5 minute ride to spouting horn and the beach house restaurant for sunset is a must do. this was a great place to start our honeymoon.

We loved the location of this hotel since we planned on spending most of our time on Kauai just relaxing on the beach. We have visited the islands before and seen all the beautiful scenery and chose this hotel because it was on the sunny south shore of Kauai. The inroom safe was a great feature. We liked being able to lock up our wallets, car keys, and jewelry when we used the beach and pools. We used the option to get a free breakfast buffet by declining daily maid service. I used their convenient in house laundry facility to wash and dry our towels and did not mind making the bed to get a free $22.00 breakfast buffet everyday of our stay. We stayed in a Garden View room. It was pleasant except the bathroom area was small and did not have much counter space. The Sheraton restaurants we ate at were great except for The Point. It had limited outside seating and poor service. The free Mai Tai reception takes place by this restaurant. The Hawaiian entertainment was very enjoyable but we found it diffucult to get a seat. A lot of people sat on the lawn but this is diffucult to do when you get older. When we did finally get a seat at a table, the steak we ordered was not very good, and when I told our waitress it tasted like fish, she did nothing about it. The Shells restaurant had excellent service and delicious food. We enjoyed the outside seating with the beautiful ocean views for our breakfast buffets and dinners. The complimentary champagne they gave us for celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary was a nice touch to a very delicious prime rib dinner. If we plan another trip to Kauai, we would definately consider using this hotel again.

Friendly hotel staff. Garden rooms were outdated and could use renovating. I was a little disappointed by the rooms. They could have easily spruced up the decor by changing the comforters. Bathroom was cramped. The ocean view rooms near the pool have nice vaulted ceilings, granite bath counter tops, a spectacular view and are more spacious but since the decor is the same, I didn't feel it was worth the extra money.

I am at the hotel as I write this. Very good room, good service. Food was excellent the first night, When I wanted dinner again, I learned that the dining room is closed on SUndays and Mondays, two of the five nights I am here. Only bar food is available. I had to go to another property to get dinner last night and will again tonight. I thought that that was bad until I tried to get lunch today. The only source of lunch is the bar at the poool. I wanted a salad, and ordered Chinese chicken salad ($12) and iced tea. The woman at the counter gave me a plastic cup and pointed me to one of those arrangements where there are different kinds of soft drinks, one of which had ice and a tap for the tea. She also pointed me to a refrigerated cabinet where there were plastic boxes with made-up salads. The chicken sald was a bed of iceberg lettuce with sliced (not grilled) chicken on top, and two little plastic containers, one with some fried noodles and the other with dressing. The only time in recent memory I had a meal like that was in the cafeteria of my local hospital, for about half the price. So the rooms, service, and hospitality are up to the Sheraton tradition, but the meals are hard to get on some days, and the lunches are at the cheapest possible level, but unfortunately not at the matching prices. Fortunately, there are a few good restaurants nearby.

The Sheraton Kauai has the beach beaches in Kauai. If you want a relaxing, romantic resort then the Sheraton Kauai is the perfect place. If you stay at the resort, do yourself a favor and stay deluxe ocean front. The view is AMAZING!!! For the romantic getaway, I strongly suggest the "romantic dinner"... you will never have a better seat, and the sunset is a lifelong memory.Although there is not much to do on Kauai, there is plenty of places to see in a walking distance, or take a cab tour, that will do the trick. The best massage is done by a woman named Sophie, both time we have been there we have asked for her by name. The massage is one of the best I have ever had. Dining is excellent, cabana #1 is a must, and a must to reserve in advance as it has the best ocean views, and it is a bit larger than the rest of the cabanas. For the family, there is a very nice pool with a small water slide. Children seem to enjoy the resort just as much as adults.I never recommend the luau, but if you haven't gone to one, the Sheraton has a very good one. The staff is amazing. They take care of their clients, even if it is a small request. If this is a romantic getaway, take building #1, it is more secluded and "deluxe ocean view" is worth every penny. If you have any questions, just call the resort and they will answer all your questions.I and my family have been going here for many years, and we will come back for many years to come.Aloha.

This is a comfortable, not super fancy family style resort that works for newlyweds and older couples, too. For over the top elegance, stay at the Grand Hyatt (way more expensive) but for a nice, middle/upscale resort the Sheraton is fine. Rooms were nice...we had adjacent connecting rooms, nicely decorated in yellows and blues with crown moldings. Beds very comfortable. We had garden view room but still had a small view of the ocean. Very nice. Beach was pretty but heavy surf (I guess this was very unusual). We found a quieter spot at the east end of the beach...amazing snorkeling 20 feet from shore...lots of tropical fish...be sure to use water shoes if just swimming because of the rocks. Free yoga was great, enjoyed hula lessons and bracelet making. Mai Tai reception nice, simple but enjoyable Hawaiian band and dancers. Hotel staff very nice, but concierge likes to push "welcome reception". We didn't go...think it was to introduce time share stuff. Otherwise, they did answer all our questions. Great internet/computer room with 6 stations, plus a boarding pass printer station. Nice community tv lounge area with big screen where we enjoyed our live Dodger games (couldn't get them in the room, but got lots of other channels in the room). Hotel food was OK...breakfast buffet was good but expensive (be sure to try the banana pancakes with coconut syrup sprinkled with macadamia nuts). Disappointed in Japanese sushi buffet and wouldn't do it again. Shrimp quesedillas poolside were amazing. Drinks really expensive. Hint...save money on the breakfast buffet...look for the coupon in your room where you forgo housekeeping for a day and get a buy one get one free coupon for the breakfast buffet. Make your own bed and save $22!

Booked the Sheraton as an add-on night for travel flexibility (cashing all the points in for a week elsewhere) and promptly went into horror after reading recent negative reviews (a few here and more elsewhere). I should note we were upgraded to a garden view in the Ocean Wing south of the road just because I dropped a SPG Card (most complaints seem to be with rooms north of the road, which seem more densely spaced and don't have ocean view). The carpet really was a bit tired and maybe it needed paint. But the bedding was great and the furniture seemed new, and all in all fully acceptable. It is on a tight footprint, which may appeal to people with mobility issues, and is very close to the water and a usable beach.

The service at this resort was as incredible as the ocean views and sounds. We were kindly upgraded to the ocean wing w/awesome view. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud. The pool isn't very deep, but good for kids. They had a nice welcome cermony w/hula dancers and mai thais!

Great location! BUT...definitely book one of their ocean view rooms. The garden view rooms are ok (we stayed in one for a night) and definitely close to the ocean, but the ocean view rooms have nicer bathrooms (with his/her sinks) and gives you an overall nicer experience. The rooms have a TV, refrigerator, and a safe, but there is NO microwave. We really could have used one! Great staff--very nice and friendly although a couple of the concierge I spoke with were a bit pushy (but I guess that goes with sales!). The beach was nice--the waves were super strong though, which I think is unusual for June. The beach was also a bit rocky, but I found this to be the case for most of the south shore beaches. I highly recommend the Sheraton.

Just got back after staying here for three nights. We went for the Deluxe Ocean View room (on sale) and it was fabulous. Of all the Kauai hotels, Sheraton offers the closest to the ocean and we weren't disappointed. When checking in, the line was a little long, so the director of housekeeping, who was passing by, came over just to chat and make us feel welcome so as to pass the time until we got to the front of the line. There was no pressure to use a bellman, but we decided we wanted the help. He was professional, friendly and had several tips about the room, the hotel and the area. BTW - the rooms have a small frig (no freezer), so plan accordingly. They had no problems with us bringing our own water and snacks into the room. You can also elect to trade a day's room cleaning for one buffet breakfast - not a bad deal, but probably wouldn't do it for more than two days in a row. Buffet was fair to good. Views are great. They offer a Mai Tai reception 4 nights a week. The drinks are so-so, but the entertainment while watching the sun set was awesome. We took advantage of the outdoor couples massage which was good for my wife but only so-so for me... We'll do Hyatt again next time, even though more expensive. Before booking, I read about some bug problems, but we had no issues other than a mosquito or two. We have stayed in numerous Hawaii (including Kauai Hyatt) and Caribbean hotels and this rates among the best ? at least an 8 out of 10, if not a 9. No worries here.

This property - probably purchased in the 60's when Hawaii first came up for sale to the early developers - has one of the prime slices of oceanic heaven in Hawaii. It is a large resort mind you, but it's relationship to the sea cannot be denied. The soundtrack of the waves at night couldn't be beat. The beach wing looks out over the pool, a lovely groomed swath of grass and then a white sand beach to the sea.
