The only good thing about this hotel was the location and the comfy bed and nice linen. The bathroom was dated and grotty. No soap pump on vanity. The tea making facilities left a lot to be desired. Rusty, mouldy mini bar fridge, geriatric jug, old tea, coffee and sugar sachets, dirty cups etc. Ordered in house pizza one night which did not fit the description stated on the menu, very lack lustre.... I would never stay there again. Too many other great hotels to choose from...

Great location on the Marina. Short walk to tour boats to Great Barrier Reef. Right down town with many restaurants in the shopping center at the base of the hotel, and many other restaurants and shops in easy walking distance.

Superb facility, great location. These people are the best in the country for service and support. Room was confortable and commodious, with a super bathroom and shower.

This is an amazing hotel and upon check-in we actually got upgraded to a junior suite. The hotel is located right next door to the Ferry Terminal where all the tour boats depart from so, this was very appealling. We did 2 tour which departed from the Reef Terminal and we got to sleep in due to the close proximity. This is also acros the parking lot from town so, a very convenient hotel to stay in. We debated a lot of properties in Cairns and Palm Cove but decided on Cairns for its proximity to the reef, restaurants and airport as we were only in Cairns for 3 nights we did not want to spend a lot of time in tour buses, cabs etc. The hotel has amazing service and extremely clean rooms!

Just spent a night at the Shangri La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns on our way home after traveling around the South Pacific for three weeks (Guam, Yap & Palau.) We found the service poor, The room cost Au$299 for the night, we arrived at midnight after a late flight. We were told we had to check out at 11am then 12 noon or we would be charged extra!!! This was the most expensive hotel during our holiday by far and was the least accommodating, all other hotels were much more flexible due to poor flight times. Reception couldn't even address me by my name after introducing myself to them. The room was small with an old TV (approx 10 years) not a HD Widescreen as you would expect for that price. No free foxtel (Ausstar), the clock radio was old and must have cost about $10 with the time set 12 hours slow. The room was Hot, with the A/C turned off!!! The Breakfast Buffet was also poor, the food was cold straight from their warmers, our table was cleared with our breakfast half eaten whilst getting coffee. Poor Service!!! They seem alot more worried about getting your money then providing quality service!! I wouldn't stay there again, and my advise is to avoid this hotel.

The Shangrila is a well located five star hotel that should tick every box. Unfortunately the size of the hotel meant that there was little to no personal service and that in general you had to ask and then re-ask for things that were included in your package. Beautiful spot out on the balcony, but the food and champagne to enjoy it with took ages. Won't race back!

Best location in Cairns - and the hotel is to be recommended. Great service and nice rooms. I'd rate it as a good 4 star - and would certianly stay here again - particularly if I could obtain the same low rate!

The location at the marina was perfect. Our room overlooked the marina, and came with a large balcony that we enjoyed every evening, looking out at the marina and the lights glancing off the water. And the hotel's concierge, [...], was fabulous. He was always there with a friendly hello and always remembered us by our last names. The staff welcomes you like a family. We added the Horizon Club, that gave us a very well established breakfast buffet, outside at the marina, as well as a very impressive assortment of evening appetizers, that included all sorts of wines, beers and soft drinks. What's not to love? This hotel actually exceeded our expectations. Would definitely stay there again!

I expected a more high end interior based on the brand. The staff was GREAT. Very good pool but thought (based on brand) the bar at the pool would be better stocked. Great location.

Absolutely the top of the line.Views from rooms are the best. You must get a room over the marina. Horizon club is a must. Staff is there for your every need. Tours can be booked right in the hotel. 1st time in Cairns, wouldn't stay anywhere else.
