We arrived at 08:50 from HK, not expecting anything until after lunch. The staff could not be more helpful, and ensured we got upstairs to our room after such a long flight. Totally worn out, opened the drapes to the most spectacular view of the opera house, and that was it - straight out to do the sights ! Sydneysiders are some of the most welcoming and friendly people we have met. This hotel deserves higher than 5 star ranking

The most comfortable beds (and pillows) imaginable! Wonderful opera house and harbour views from our 24th floor room. TV needed updating and those 102 poorly-lit steps from Circular Quay were a real drag at the end of a busy day (the alternative being a well-lit but steep road). Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great views from room, the porter who brought our bags to our room was really informative about Sydney and we enjoyed our stay overall. Only negative we found was that garage staff mislaid our car keys, which delayed our day trip to the Blue Mountains by an hour while they looked for them!

the hotel's staff was friendly, professional, and always helpful. this hotel would have ranked 5 stars except the pool, fitness center and business center are all being remodeled so there is little or no services of these. I wish this would have been mentioned in the booking information. Otherwise, our stay was great! Location, location, location!

Booked 4 nights for my wife's birthday. Upon check in we couldn't enter the room due to a faulty key. After three trips downstairs being told that the key was fine but not offered any assistance, I was finally given another room. The same thing happened again before I was let in with a master key and reception sorted out the problem. The view is spectacular and the room is extremely nice. I was not impressed to see the usual bottle of still water in the room was not complimentary but a $10 charge, you must be kidding?. I had also booked a dinner at the Altitude restaurant and informed them that we would also be hotel guests. I was most disappointed to be given an inferior table away from the great view, particularly when there were empty tables by the windows. when i enquired. I was told that they were reserved even though I was told previously that reservations of tables could not be taken. Given that we were guests of the hotel we should have been given priority or at least an apoligy. Apart from the view this restaurant had nothing else, the food was most ordinary for the price. Overall the hotel is adequate, but not justified in its prices, there are better alternatives around.

Wonderful location overlooking the Opera House, Circular Quay and within walking distance of George Street downtown. Excellent service. Two very good and very expensive restaurants, not unique to Sydney's food prices which are really high. If we return to Sydney we would stay there again; would definitely reccommend it.

THe only fault found was no ice in the ice compartment of the mini-bar fridge, as promised by the services guide. Otherwise, very acceptable at the price paid, but very heavy at rack rates!

One of the nicest rooms in any hotel we have ever stayed in - particularly the luxurious bed and bathroom. The location is very central for visiting tourists and the views are spectacular, particularly from the bar at the top, but be aware that it is located on a road that is a fairly steep climb up from the main road. Service was friendly and efficient, particularly from the concierge department.

My husband and I left, Nyack, NY last February for our first long trip to Australia and New Zealand. We just arrived home on April 1, 2009. After the long flight to Sydney, we were very happy with the scale and friendliness of this hotel. Spectacular view, and very good service from this hotel. On arrival, by mistake we left our briefcase in the shuttle from the airport. We were taken by the Hotel staff to the Conference Center to begin the process of finding the driver, and eventually retracing our steps back to the Sydney Airport. The Hotel even replayed a survelliance tape of our arrival with the hope it might identify the van and driver. All ended well, as the driver was located, and our case and passports were safely sitting on the back seat of his van. I can't recall all the names, but ALL THE STAFF were some who made our visit one to repeat. Sydney is great, the coffee even greater, and like Rome, a very stylish place. If you go, you will want to get in shape, because they walk all over the place. Lynne and Peter Esmay South Nyack, NY

This hotel will not disappoint you if you're looking a great hotel - maybe as a treat. I booked this to get a view of Sydney and so wrote to the hotel beforehand asking them to give me the best room they could in the price category I'd booked. They were fabulous on check in and gave me a very high floor and even upgraded my view to an Opera House view which made my Mum's trip. Use the concierge staff - they were fabulous. Esp go on the hotels recommended Hunter Valley tour and ask for Mike as your guide - again, awesome. Thank you Shangri-La - we can't wait to see you again.

We loved the location of this hotel - in the Rocks District, so close to the harbor with a fabulous view of the Opera house. The linens were great, the service was good, and we could walk to a lot of things we wanted to do or catch a short cab ride. The security was also good. My only complaint was that breakfast was very overpriced

This is an excellent 5 star hotel that could certainly be recomended to any business traveller.

We have stayed in this hotel a number of imes over the last year and would have to say that the service level has slipped badly especially in the room service area. You alo need to keep an eye on the mini bar as they seem to forget to restock them.

No complaints, can't fault the service nor the attention to detail.

Checking into the hotel was pleasant and professional. The valet escorted myself to a rep who gave me access to the Horizon Club where I was checked in in comfort. The room was clean and the fresh fruit awaiting was a nice touch. The staff in the Club Lounge were extremely friendly and helpful. A great credit to the hotel. Every staff member I came in contact with albeit Housekeeping, Waiters, Valet &/or Porters all greeted me with a warm welcome. I had also booked a room for my parents as a Christmas gift and they were given service above and beyond expectations by the club lounge staff. This will now be my Sydney CBD hotel of choice from now on and will be my recommendation to all family and friends visiting Sydney.

got a king room opera and harbour view, and was very average, room seemed plain and worn with a cheap tv, breakfast was the best part of the experience hotel location was awfull you had to walk up a massive hill and through an alley to get there. a bit of a rip off would never stay there again

Very pleasant stay. Super location and excellent views. Horizon Club was good value for money.
