Small rooms and smaller elevators...missed the convenience of a coffee shop with food in the hotel, but was blessed with many local restaurants, so did not starve. Location was good for most activities, and close to public transportation, which is important in the city. Fitness club is small, but nicely appointed. Staff was courteous but not well informed. Had to go to internet for most directions.

Personnel. Non-operable windows/however thermostat did control temperature. Okay.

lovely hotel, nice location, friendly people, great bed and pillows and clean. we had a very relaxing stay. some of the rooms are very tiny, but we were able to switch to a slightly larger one and were very comfortable.

My husband and I wanted a quick getaway for the weekend.....but not spend an arm and leg. The exterior was being worked on construction wise when we arrived; however, the interior of the lobby is beautiful; an old building that was renovated for the hotel use. All of the staff were very knowledgable and, most important friendly; from the front desk staff to the maids and bell hops. The rooms are smallish (the bathroom more so); however, nicely decorated, very CLEAN, and the bed was comfy. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel which we did not try, and a fitness room, and business center, which we also did not try....only there Friday through Monday to see the sites! The location, I think, was good; walking distance to Union square and shopping, and the Theater district. The play Oh My Godmother should be a must see....very cute! Food was delicious in San Fran......the hotel desk clerk recommended Swan's Oyster shop......EXCELLENT if you love seafood.....long wait at lunchtime....but all locals, so you know it's good.....just a few blocks from The Serrano Hotel

Very friendly staff, knowledgeable, helpful and assisted us with getting around. They made a Jazz restaurant recommendation which we enjoyed very much. One of the rooms a little small. Great location. Wonderful staff. I will return rather than stay at the impersonal Hilton across the street.

Serrano is a very nice boutique hotel close to Union Square. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful.

nice older hotel that has been thoroughly redone very well. whoever redid the rooms did a great job with a realatively small space -- intelligence and good design throughout. very fashionable to boot.

We were attending a conference across the street. Very convienant. Our flight was dreadfully late and arrived after 1 AM. All the staff was kind and respectful. Very helpful. Remember though be ready to give out tips for the person that helps with your luggage etc.........please don't forget to remember to leave a tip for the housekeeper when you leave. A very hard worker and very proud of her job. Theres a well stocked over priced refrigerator and snack bar. Watch it it could become a huge added expense.

The hotel was clean, fairly close to union square and excellent for theatre.

My visit to San Franciso was to attend a memorial service for my younger sister. The reservations department helped us to upgrade to a suite to provide mroe room for all of our out of town relatives. The room was beautiful and soothing with exquisite decor, a luxurious nights sleep, and peace and quiet in the midst of a busy cityscape. The enire staff was friendly and the wine reception allowed us to mingle with other guests. I love this hotel and each year we plan to visit on behalf of my sister and this will be out new home away from home. Thank you so much for treating us with such respect during this tragic time.

The staff were extremely helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations and reservations. We had tickets to the King Tut exhibit at the de Young Museum. When asking for directions they informed us that museums are usually closed Mondays. Even after I checked my tickets they called the museum to double check before we made the trip over! It was also a wonderful touch to come back to the hotel late in the afternoon after an exhaustive day out to come back and be offered wine in the lobby to sit and relax. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Very convenient to Union Square

The pillows were the best I've ever slept on. It was before eleven and we could not find anywhere to eat after the theater. Worst meal we ever had but no reflection on the hotel. The room was kind of small but we were just there for the night after going to the theater. It was very nice though. Very comfortable bed and pillows were the best. They also had very nice bath products.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel (I had a reservation for 6) and was not happy there. The staff was nice, but the location is not. The Tenderloin district is right outside the front door, and even though the Hilton was across the street, if you plan on walking anywhere, it is dangerous. It is amazingly close to Union Square, but trust me, there are so many other options that are just as close. The room was extremely small for 2 people; the bathroom was the size of a closet--there was no counter to lay out toiletries and the toilet itself was small. If you can get a deal here and you are alone, I guess it would be fine, but this was not what would be considered comfortable. The lobby is gorgeous, but you don't sleep in the lobby, and the staff is nice, but they don't live there either!

My husband and I had a delightful stay at the Serrano Hotel 2/25-2/28/08. The efficient & friendly hotel staff, lovely room w/ comfy king-size bed, complimentary morning coffee, newspaper, & wine from 5-6 p.m. all made our stay near perfect. We got a great rate on Travel online(about 125 per night) that was even better than the hotel website's. Its location near Union Square was also a plus. Only negative is it's near a "transitional" area w/ homeless people nearby. We are active seniors & never felt unsafe, however. (The Hilton is across the street.) Ponzu Restaurant adjacent to the hotel is excellent for Asian small plate tapas-style dining. Dottie's True Blue Cafe a block or two from the Serrano serves fantastic breakfast fare. (Though it's in a rougher area, we had to wait for a table on a weekday about 10 a.m.!) The upscale Colibri Restaurant a few blocks away in the theater district serves great Mexican food, not the typical dishes offered at most Mexican restaurants. Although the Serrano may not be quite up to other Kimpton properties, we were very pleased to stay there & give it two thumbs up-- way up!

The hotel is located within walking distance to Union Square, where you can catch the metro, BART, or cable cars to anywhere in the city including the airport. The complimentary wine from 5-6 was a nice touch.

We chose this hotel because of price and location, my wife and I believe that the Union Square area is a great area to be based in for a San Francisco urban holiday. Although other areas are great it is easy to get from here to anywhere. We had a two queen bed room for my wife and I and our child for six nights. The room was a little small but we really only slept in the room so for the price we were not complaining. The games in the lobby were useful as they kept my son and I out of the room while my wife rested. The staff were exceptional, the wine at 5 was fun, I have had wine hours at other hotels and they are usually a bit lame but people participated and I was able to meet people from all over the states- don't miss. Complaint, Wi-Fi in the lobby only, cable access in rooms, computer access in the business centre was $7 for 15m- too high. I/We would stay again for the price we paid, if you are a business traveller it would be great.

The room was very clean and nice, although on the small side. The staff was very helpful and polite. And the hotel restaraunt, Ponzu, was outstanding. We had one of the best meals with the best service, that we have ever experienced.
