My husband and I stayed three nights at the hotel. The first room we were shown was too small and the hotel kindly provided a larger room (truthfully, our luggage just took up too much space). The room was adequate, no view, but extremely quiet. We slept very, very well. The breakfast provided by the hotel is wonderful and the service provided by the staff is excellent. We loved the location. We could walk to the museums (note: this is not the place to stay if you prefer to be adjacent to the museums and the touristy areas around the museums), viewing the city along the way and we were in close proximity to the Palace, shopping, and the many restaurants and tapas bars (Cava Baja) off of the Plaza Mayor. We would definitely stay there again! Understated elegance might best describe this hotel.

This was a very nice hotel however, they have a horrible problem with homelss people around the hotel. A gang of young men and dogs were right outside the hotel 24 hours a day - yes they pulled out mattrasses and sleeping bags at night. During the day they harrassed us for money every time we came and went from the hotel until we began walking an extra block out of the way to avoid them.It is a shame for such a nice hotel to have this problem but until they resolve it I would not recommend staying there.

The localization of the hotel was great, very close to the "Plaza Mayor", silent room with double glass window, interesting antique decoration. I just want to comment the quite bad experience we had by the time we needed a taxi to leave to the airport : instead to be offered a phone call taxi service, we were just pointed where to go to get a taxi by ourselves carring bags and stuffs. It's not exactaly a 4 stars hotel service is it??

The Palacio San Martin is a great price/value hotel. It is walking distance to much of what there is to do and near 2 Metro lines. At the same time it isn't on a loud, busy street. Lots of good restaurants and shopping nearby too.

People live in the street outside and will beg as you approach the hotel. They are drunk etc. One of them was seen to enter the hotel and emerge after a few minutes, using the toilet ? which is next to the lift to all floors. Very bad security. Apparently the police are reluctant to move them on. Other than that a very fine hotel, good rooms with very quiet double glazing. Not sure if the Air Con was working properly. Despite all that we really liked the hotel.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in, clean, friendly and excellent location, close to everything you need to enjoy your time in Madrid. would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Only down side was the flutist outside our balcony playing green sleeves ( totally out of tune )over and over again, it must have been the only tune he knew how to play, now whenever we hear this tune it will bring pleasant memories of Madrid to mind. Take the city tour bus, good value for money, taking you to all the major attractions on a hop on hop off basis. Thanks to all the hotel staff for a memorable stay in Madrid.

This was our second stay at the Intur Palacio. The staff, location and accomodations were great. The staff spoke some English, and patiently allowed you to practice your rusty Spanish. The room was clean and fine, but the bath was tight. The location was great (near metro (Callao), Plaza Mayor, Cortes Inglis, Puerta del Sol) and walking distance to Palacio Real, Opera, Rastro.Check out the FREE adjunct Thyssen gallery across the plaza.Remember the ""Do Not Disturb"" sign if you want to sleep in. We'd stay here again.

We loved this hotel. Even though it is in the old part of Madrid, since it is located on a quiet small plaza, it was a peaceful place to come back to. Its location was great. It seemed as if it were at a short walking distance from the best of old Madrid. We used this hotel as a base as our connecting flights to Rome were through Madrid. We stayed in 3 different rooms over the course of 3 weeks. Each room was very spacious with elegant and clean decor. Bathrooms were done in marble and were very clean. The staff was exceptionally helpful and kind. We found the 4 star rating to be a bit high, but we did find this to be a very comfortable hotel at a good price in the center of Madrid. Every time we came through the door we felt welcomed. Overall, this is a great find and we would return
