The room was beautiful but it was far far too hot despite having the temperature down as far as it would go. This was very disappointing and made the room which was otherwise beautiful very uncomfortable. Hotel staff were very courteous and helpful.

Great location. Attentive, professional staff. All requests were seen to with a smile. Great recommendations given for tours, restaurants, and rugby watching venues. Strongly recommend.

very central and plush hotel with friendly staff. Conversion of old newspaper offices so rooms are variable. if you are a tourist and want Edinburgh rooftop views you might prefer a smaller room while a Brit business traveller will prefer more space and less view : so do check room before taking it. Nice basement pool and good gym.

This is NOT the experience you would expect from what is supposed to be a grand hotel. Decorating is laughable. We had two non matching (diff style, diff color) pull out bed sofas... next to each other along the same wall as our bed (Really!). Ironing board was perched against wall opposite the two sofas along with two little 8x10 pictures. Sound 5 star to you? We stayed in the Publisher's Suite! The bed was horrid. Two huge depressions, made it impossible to get comfortable. The TV faced the bed... and was about 6 feet in the air and doesn't tilt downward. Stained industrial looking carpet, No AC, No Fans, No screens, No protection from falling out of windows that would open from almost the floor to 6 feet fully opened. All night... sirens, ppl partying, cars honking... Sheets were stained, yuck, asked for new... they came up and remade bed with the old sheets. Dining areas are in basement with low ceilings white leather, not edgy, but very clich?d "modern" look. If you are looking for something memorable, romantic or chic... this isn't the place. We couldn't stand it and left before our reservation ended! The high point is that the staff was very pleasant!

No Sleep Hotel! If you like your sleep - do not stay here !I asked for queit room(s)In one oom you could not get to sleep because of the traffic noise - all thro the night . The other room you were woken by Rail station loud speaker , announcing the 0615 train. Both room were far to warm and you could not open the windows due to the noise .An old building that has CD , Flat screens shoved into cramped cupboards - generating loads of heat ! Safe ?Staff were good , but hotel no so good - 5 Star ! - I really have stayed in far better 4 star !Staff did say they would move us but they were full - not sure of that !

The hotel was easy to find from the Edinburgh Waverly train station and had easy access to the Royal Mile and Princes Street. Service was flawless, the room and bathroom were very spacious, and the view was fantastic. The concierge gave us great restaurant recommendations and made reservations for us. Our two nights at the Scotsman were among the highlights of our trip.

Its central location and interesting public spaces will mean this venue will attract visitors to Edinburgh but they need to smarten up their act. Lifts out of order, clanking pipework and a slightly bashed looks to the rooms detract from what should be a first class stay. The extensive spa and gym need a firmer management hand and the bistro should be producing a much higher standard of fare. This Scotsman is decidely resting on his laurels...

The service was absolutely great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel (I don't remember the name) was amazing and the prices were quite reasonable. We're from Seattle, and a similar dinner would have been at least 50% more. Our room was not big, but adequate. The bathroom was very nice and modern. The location can't be beat. Just a half block from the Royal Mile, and a short walk across the bridge to the New Town. We would definitely consider this hotel for a return visit.

DisapointingI've stayed at the Scotsman many times but after this weeks experience I will not be returning. They overcharged my credit card by several hundreds of punds and the refund will take 5 days. No apology and no phone call from the manager as promised. The room was over lookin g the noisy train station, the toilet was blocked and the heating was on full even though I had set the control to off.Very bad form.

Had a beautiful, comfortable, quiet room, a great view. Close to all the touristy plaaces. Staff were discretely helpful without being intrusive. Room service food disappointing. Charging extra for Internet was just cheap for such a luxurious hotel.

Great Service and first class staffProbably the best business hotel I have stayed with in Edinburgh.

The "superior" room was pretty small although it was well appointed. Breakfast was expensive, full Scottish breakfast arrived luke warm, eggs overcooked and did not taste fresh.Toast was soft which I hate and the cheese on the buffet board was starting to curl at the edges. All this for £18 a pop! Won't be back in a hurry.

The Scotsman is a beautiful hotel which I would have no hesitation in recommending to other people. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, while waiting on my partner to park I sat in the reception in front of the open fire and read the \"Scotsman\".. what else?? Fantastic hotel, beautiful rooms, excellent staff and a pool/spa to top it off.

felt like a small bed - standard double! when every other detail is luxurious / lovely seems a shame that they haven't gone for marginally bigger beds!

the parking was expensive, even though it was subsidised.
