Scandic Rubinen Hotel Gothenburg (Sweden)

The Scandic Rubinen is a 1960s, seven-storey hotel located on the city's main avenue, within one kilometre of the train station and Liseberg Amusement Park. The 191 guestrooms feature simple, modern, Scandinavian-style decor. All include air conditioning, clock radios, coffee/tea makers, desks, telephones and televisions with pay movies. Bathrooms have bathtubs and hair dryers. Guests can dine in the informal Ruby Restaurant, which offers bright, colourful decor and a varied menu of international dishes, or enjoy spiced Caribbean and South American tapas dishes, tequila, rum and fresh fruit juices in the Ruby Bar. Children receive a surprise on check in, and during the summer they have their own breakfast room with videos and a playroom. Staff at the 24-hour front desk can put valuables in the safe-deposit box, and there is currency exchange, a concierge desk, and parking facilities behind the hotel (surcharge). Thrill-seekers can ride on Balder, the largest wooden roller-coaster in Scandinavia, at Liseberg Amusement Park just 900 metres away. The Universeum, next door to Liseberg, is Sweden's national science discovery centre, where kids and adults alike can learn about everything from sharks to rainforests. Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is 30 kilometres from the hotel, an approximate driving time of 40 minutes.
