Somewhere to stayA little dissapointed after seeing the photos on the internet. Room needed some attention. however the staff were helpful and friendly. A good breakfast' and in an excellent location for the sights of York.

1 night stay1. Breakfast excellent!2. Colour scheme of room was depressing; e.g. dark brown bed spread3. Layout of room could have been better and less cramped around dressing table with a sofa-bed instead of a full sized single bed for potential 3rd occupant.4. Shaver light didn't work.5. Receptionist could have been more responsive on arrival; i.e. We had to wait while she spoke with her "boss" on phone and no offer of help with luggage up stairs was made.6. However, she had a pleasant, friendly manner and was happy for us to leave car parked behind hotel until noon on departure day.7. Might stay again if rate were less - especially as it was a Sunday night!

weekend at the racesafter reading the latest reviews i was tempted to cancel. on first impressions the hotel is tired and in need of refurbishment like most these days. the welcome was good , we were giving the ground floor room next to the dining room,not my ideal choicethe room was nice and clean, decent bed and furniture , the ensuite was suitable but a little dated ,breakfast was very good and service was quick . cannot fault at all. did not use the bar as out sight seeing mostly. we paid £149 for 2 nights so expected a little more to be truthful . obviousley prices increase due to york races. would i stay again ? probably not at the same price!

Excellent accommodation defensive parkingThe accommodation and food was excellent they weren't inclined to let us park there after one.Which cost me £4 for the extra hour.Shame. Will use it again if i'm not coming by car.

Staff were very friendly. The family room was comfortable and quite spacious and the breakfast was excellent. However, the hotel, although clean, was slightly shabby.Overall our stay was good value for money and we would certainly return.

okay for a one nighterWe were given a really warm welcome when we arrived, we were offered veggie sausages for brekkie which was nice as my boyfriend doesn’t eat Pork. We were also warned about the toilet in our room which she said was ‘sani flow’ and we should be very careful not to put anything else down it than the loo roll. Fair enough. We got to our room and we knew it was going to be small double, which was fine, but the toilet was horrendous. The first time we flushed it we thought it was going to blow up. No-one could deal with that anymore that one night. The neighbours had their TV on really loud and the noise from the traffic was loud as we were at the front of the hotel. The breakfast wasn’t great, poor quality ingredients. Overall the customer service was excellent, but the room let it down. On the plus side the hotel has a car park and is only 10 mins walk to central York.

Not worth the moneyThe room was too small for two people, and not overly clean. It was dark and very hot! I felt my money would have been much better spent at a travel lodge!

SHORT STAYVERY PLEASANT STAFF BUT THE HOTEL WAS OF FAIRLY POOR QUALITY NEEDING REFURBISHMENT. LOOSE SHELF IN THE BATHROOM LOOSE HOOKS, CRACKED TILES, POOR SHOWER. BED WAS VERY THIN AND THE SPRINGS COULD BE FELT THROUGH IT. NICE TO HAVE GUESTS CAR PARK AND WAS IN EASY REACH OF CITY CENTRE WHICH WAS ABOUT A 10 MINUTE WALK

Hotel not recommendedHotel front grubby, no wi-fi or broadband, as advertised, room was comfortable enough but ensuite was filthy the toilet seat was all marked on the underside and the mould growing on the shower screen would have to be seen to be believed. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was ok.

weekend breakOn entering the hotel the first impression was that it was very tired.The staff were very friendly and helpful.The convenience to the city centre was excellent.The real shame was that we had got a room with a four poster bed and it was dressed with any fabric what so ever, what's the point of having a four poster unless you really make a feature of it and charge accordingly, which we were!

Not greatThe customer service was poor at this hotel - from arriving after the alloted time of 1pm to be told the room was not ready, to the very rude girl on reception who demanded payment before we saw the room and we heard her speak to other guests very sharply.Room was basic but had just been painted - very strong smell of paint still in the room - unpleasant when trying to sleep.

The Saxon HotelOn arriving just before lunch, we found that the staff were very accommodating and friendly, they allowed us to leave our car in their car park although the room wasnt quite ready. They gave us very good advice and directions into York and in the evening recommended a very good place to eat. The room was clean and comfortable and well fitted out for the size of the hotel. The breakfast in the morning, was the best we had out of all four places of accommodation. We will certainly recommend to anyone who wants to visit York.
