a happy stay ay sandy lodgeThe staff were very friendly, whether it be in the reception, bar or restaurant, where the self service breakfast was excellent. Tried one evening meal - 5 courses for £14 which was also excellent both in quality and value for money. Sandy Lodge is in a quiet location close to Tolcarne beach and is only 5-10 minute walk from the town centre. Will definitely be coming back in the future.

Room was fine for money. Only problem was that the coffee at breakfast was undrinkable!

Just because it's Newquay, there is no excuse to have a shoddy roomArrived, fair bit of parking at hotel, lots in street next to it. First room was a twin, not a double as booked (hotel blamed Late Rooms!). Back to reception, got a key for another room, had to go a long way up and down stairs as the direct route was unavailable due to a function. Got to room, key didn't work. Back to reception, got another key (completely different) which worked. Got into room and the heating was one full (during this hot weekend)! No knob to turn it off - back to reception - she turned up 15 minutes later with pliers. Only one window opened to let heat out, other was broken and wouldn't open. Toilet seat broken, bathroom light not working. By then we were too eager just to get ready and go out instead of changing rooms again. Breakfast was okay if you like typical greasy fry up, cereals, etc. Just because it's Newquay with lots of stag dos that is no excuse for spending some money doing up the place and fixing basic items. Decor has not been touched for at least 20 years.

A value for money stay close tothe townWe booked this hotel as it was walking distance from the town but far away enough to not have too much noise. It was advertised as having a pool, which it did - although it was rather small. It had a jaccuzi but you had to pay £1 for 15 mins. The room was pretty basic but we were glad of a proper bed rather than staying at a caravan site as some friends did. The heating was on quite high so despite turning it off in our room, it was still very warm. It was good value for money and we would stay again.

A very good value hotel. Beds were clean and comfortable. Food good value. My wife and I would gladly stay here again, it is in an ideal position for the cliffs and bays and just a short walk to the town. We loved it.

70's hotel that never leftPositive - Room was decent size, bed was comfortable, had a decent nights sleep, but I was very tired that night.Negative - Quite a walk from the town centre, Decor in desperate need of updating, Buffet breakfast was very ordinary. Average age at hotel is 65. No Shower only a bath and a "Compaction" Toilet (disgusting). Only stayed here because it was the only place available. Would I stay here again in a word "No"

I would rather have slept in my car.

The Hotel is located within easy walking distance of both the beach and the Town. The breakfast was excellent and the Hotel Bar was open late every night. The only criticism is the wall in the Hotel room are very thin and you can hear the people staying next door. Also the floor boards do creep. But for the price I fully recommend staying there.

The building fabric needs some sound proofing. We stayed in a room and had a lot of interruptions / noise from the room above. I also noted they do not change bedding everyday.

Overall it was basic but good value for money. Some rooms are accessible only via a lot of stairs, so if you are mobility impaired then make sure you mention this when booking.

Room decoration, urgently needs updating ceiling lights not working told front desk nothing done, ensuit door did not close ,told front desk nothing done(room 209),window frame paint work peeling windows only lock with force, gaps around window (top),The hotel clean tidy staff helpful food good (only had breakfast).

Room was quite small, but adequate. Had everything I needed, including tea and coffee making facilities. Room cleaned everyday and made made up. Plenty of cupbords, drawers and shelves to put my clothes. They were very helpful at reception - getting printouts of directions for various 'attractions' in and around Newquay. Food at breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. All in all a pleasant stay.

Good location, really was a ten minute walk to edge of Newquay and ok for beaches. We only stayed for one night and it was adequate for our stay but the room was small so wouldn't want to spend more than a couple of nights there. Breakfast ok. All Staff very helpful and friendly. Would stay again if in similar situation especially in summer season when most places require you to book a weeks stay

Good value budget accommodation, a little dated but staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful

This is a below standard hotel and really not worth the money. The room/bathroom facilities are on the extra small side and very basic. The room was not particularly clean especially the tea and coffee making facility. If you want peace and quiet then this is definitely not for you with the fire alarm sounding at around 6.30am. The 'leisure' facilities were in very poor condition, the outside pool was drained and full of debris/bricks, with no explanation as to why this was not in use. This is definately not somewhere to take the kids.

Super-friendly staff, they were so helpful. They let us check-in early as we had just driven down from London. Breakfast was amazing - a great choice of hot food. Very lovely and within walking distance to everything. Excellent value for money.

when we got to the hotel it looked good, then we went to our room and the lock never worked on our door.there was a building site outside our window.the room was very very hot even though the heating was off.we were told that food was on till 9 30 but when we arrived for dinner at 7.30/8 pm the food had finished so we had to go and get fish and chips down the road.the bathroom was mouldy.u could hear everything in the next room, the walls r very thin.the pool table was a disgraceit didnt work.our day and night couldnt get any worse. i was very dissapionted and upset.
