What a gemI had the most amazing room., really good size with fantastic sea views The food was first class and all the staff friendly and helpful.

Very impressed with this Hotel. Excellent value in a very over priced area. Staff charming & very helpful. Room was huge with a great view and very comfortable bed, loads of desk space & sockets for laptop etc. Bathroom a bit on the small size but perfectly ok. I was traveling on business & this hotel was definitely very family orientated but this did not disturb me in any way if anything it added a bit of normal life to the experience!

Nice place but needs some sparkleBooked as a late rooms booking. We got the impression at the desk when we arrived that we were less valued , probably because we had paid a discount price.Hotel wasnt full. We had a back room but to be fair it was great. Clean bed linen, good colour scheme and modern quality curtains and comfy beds. Room cleaner was good and arranged beds perfectly etc.But whole place seemed dead. Lots of excellent facilities but not used despite some folks being there. Empty lounges, empty play areas yet it was half term.I got the impression staff were young - great - but seemed to lack good leaders and motivators. Didnt particularly bother to speak when we passed and didnt have any enthusiasm for this "holiday" hotel.Every thing else is fine. food ok. If you just had some team bonding, enthusiasm and reward amongst the staff you would crack it - because they seem like they could be a great asset with the right help / managerAdded trauma was a false firealarm sat night. Outside for 40 mins or so with no explanation and only a poor night porter to over see the hotel. No other staff available!

I booked this hotel having read the reviews of just about every hotel in Newquay. It’s hard to remember that it is just someone’s opinion and not everyone is bugged by the same things. I think that if you have a good hotel you allow the minor niggles to go. And that’s what I did with The Sands. After I booked the hotel a friend told me about another review site. I went there and was horrified to find that it’s family friendliness was so great that it put off single or people without children. I begun to wonder if I had made a mistake booking this hotel. That was until I arrived. I would imagine that I would have hated staying there during school holiday’s or high season. But for my stay it was almost everything i could have wanted. The staff were polite and attentive when needed, but not in your face all the time. The room was clean and more than I could hope for from a three star hotel. I was hoping to get a view of the sea, but there were no rooms left. However, I had a pool suite, and the view of the surrounding countryside was great. The only minor niggle I had was that being a smoker I totally understand the no smoking policy. In fact I don’t like to smoke in any room that I am to sleep in. However, it was a fair distance from the main entrance, so if i needed a cigarette it was a bit of a bind. I did find a nearby fire exit, but that was often locked in the late evening. The breakfasts were great. Full English or continental, the choice was the same every day. But as I love a good English breakfast when I’m on holiday I was quite happy. Maybe the addition of some fruit and a larger choice of breakfast cereals would have been nice. But no complaints from me.The only thing that really niggled me was that the pool closes every evening at 7 pm. This is a shame because after a long day of driving around Cornwall seeing the sights it’s really nice to unwind with a swim. Also, the hotel has this system for booking the use of the sauna and hot tub. It’s a good system,

Noisy as hell but clean & reasonably priced.

Hotel doesn't look much as you arrive (probably due to being on a cliff top on the atlantic coast and the winter weather), however, once inside things are greatly improved. The rooms are all good sizes and well laid out, there are baby listening devices in te rooms and you can have a stair gate fitted to the main door as well. Ours looked recently refurbished. The food is excellent, top quality and well presented and at a very reasonable rate (£20 for a 3 course meal if you haven't booked in advance of your stay, otherwise £10). All hotel staff are very friendly and can't do enough to help. Sports facilities are 'free' but would suggest you bring your own tennis/golf balls as you have to buy these. great gardens and playground and although the indoor pool is quite small you are in cornwall so the beach beckons! All in all a great family friendly place to stay.
