This resort is perfect for those that want to get out and explore Negril. The cliffs are beautiful and the jump is so exhiliarating. Nearby everything. Easy to grab a taxi. I recommend getting an airconditioned room because the garden view rooms are across the dangerous road. Food is not great but you can never go wrong with grilled cheese and fries! We had bad fish at legends and bad chicken at Samsara. Drinks ok. Staff is average. Security at the entrance at night- good and bad thing (wouldnt let me hang out with locals on premises after 10pm). Shuttle was a great plus. The beach at Legends has lots to offer. My sister and I slept on a tacky matress on the loft of our room but to our suprise was super comfy! Planning to return soon/regularly to visit my new Jamaican friends :)

hotel staff was great! The grounds were beautiful and the cliffs were fun to jump from! Snorkeling was great and the water was perfect. We had 2 small huts across the street that accomodated 6 of us. Lots of trees, humming birds,& geckos. Beautifully landscaped with walking paths. It felt more homey than a hotel where you have people next to you, or on top of you. It was off the main drag (where i particularly prefer) there were no crowds and craziness. A perfect place to relax and comepletely affordable. I have already reccomeded this resort to friends.

Samasara was one of the nicer hotels I saw while in Negril. It is away from the beach but there is a daily shuttle there that brings you to Legends (another hotel owned by the same people). Stay at Legends if you want to be on the beach. Overall this hotel was decent, I wouldnt suggest getting the all inclusive.

I would never recommend the Samasara to anyone....My room was horrible. First I was given a room with two broken beds. It was dirty, there were bugs, lizards and rats crawling around! It was absolutly disgusting! The only Friendly staff person was the wonderful cook.....He was very nice to us and made us feel comfortable.....but sadly he is no longer there! Please do not waste your time and money at this so called Resort....

It was a pleasant surprise to get to Samsara, it's beautiful, sunsets are bountiful. Although the beds left alot to be desired, everything else was fine. Samsara was going thru a staff change between themselves and sister hotel Legends so staff was a little unsettled about their moves but it was clean, and safe to wander around the resort as well as walk the surrounding area. Will make an effort to come back again next year. Although it was spring break you couldn't tell, the kids that were there were very well behaved and not out of control as it might have been if we had been on the beach. My husband and I loved the solitude there so if you need a quiet place to get decompressed this is the spot.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable with great location to the cliffs. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the property is beautiful. The biggest difference between this and other resorts I've stayed at in Negril are the food and beverage options. If you're looking for fresh lobster and premium liquors though, this is not the plan for you. The food is home-cooked, buffet style, and while 90% of the time it was very good, it is not fancy. The drinks are typically pre-made with well liquors, so plan on paying extra if you want premium brands. Overall though, I would recommend this hotel for young travelers.

I just got back from this resort and it was amazing. We stayed in one of the pillar huts and the view was incredible. The only downfall was the bed was the most comfortable, but in the big picture, it was easily gotten over. You can go scuba diving at the hotel and that was the best part of the trip. The instructors are so sweet and really care about you. My first time down I freaked out and couldn't do it but they worked with me to get me to calm down. They allowed me to come back the next day at no charge so they could work extra with me. The guys and the coral/fish were amazing! I saw two eagle rays down there, which was an amazing site. I actually plan on going back in the summer and will not stay anywhere else. Staff is amazing and friendly and the views and experience there you cannot get at any big resort. It truely was amazing and I won't stay anywhere but here!

Samsara is a good down to earth location, has a nice view of the ocean and the cliffside. Yes to some people it may need alot of rennovations, or it could have this and that, but to me it has just enough, great staff, nice view and very quite and laid back,

O.K. Here is the real deal on Samsara from a seasoned traveller. The resort IS a 2 1/2 Star Resort, just like it is listed....BUT....you get what you pay for ! The rooms were old, but clean, the A/C was cold and the bed was comfortable. The location is excellent, and you can walk UP to Rick's for an evening or DOWN to Mary's Bay for an afternoon. The people there staying at the resort were WONDERFUL, and it was a perfect place just to relax. No, there is no entertainment, and the food is only adequate, but the drinks are good and plentiful, and you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ! My wife and I celebrated her 50th birthday there in February, and we LOVED IT. I have stayed at the Superclubs resorts when I had a lot more money, but for what we paid for this trip we would do it again in a heartbeat. Don't expect Grand Lido, but if you DO go just relax, enjoy, and get out and meet the people...

My first experience in Jamaica was not what I anticipated. I had been waiting months for this moment to aarive in Jamaica. Full of excitement and very impatient. It started off rocky when they left my husband's bags in our state due to the plane was full, but then it was raining hard and I was still ok with that I was in another country. It took us over 2 hrs to arrive to our so call resort which it never states anywhere on the hotel which that understates it as well. It was a dump, a hole in the wall. For what we paid we still deserve alot better and some of the guest we met paid more and it wasn't worth. The only thing that made our trip worth it eventhough we were so hurt and felt they got over on us was the fact that we were celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. We had each other to coax us through this awful trip.

We chose this hotel because the price was median and from the photos, the rooms looked clean. It was a really nice place. The only thing I didn't like was that they won't authorize phone cards and charge over $3 to connect and $1.79 per minute, they even charge $0.75 for a local call. They had several extra charges actually, which made it less of a median price. But overall, it was very clean inside the rooms and on the grounds. The people were friendly. We'd recommend it. The scuba diving was conveniently located right on site. We liked the local eateries more than any of the resort restaurants. Samsara did have a good breakfast buffet and free refills on Blue Mountain Coffee. Ya mon, good times.

The Samsara was very nicely spread out as far as rooms, pool, bar area, ocean views and the massage area. We absolutely loved being on the cliffs with the great ocean view, and the umbrella/cabanas provided for shade were much appreciated. The bathrooms were newly renovated and comfortable enough, except we never really had hot water during our four night stay. Our only other disappointment is that the beds have a concrete foundation and then a single mattress on top of that foundation...no boxsprings. I've never seen that before, and it was not comfortable to sleep on, truly. Not a luxury resort, but for the money, very nice.

We stayed for a week in one of the huts overlooking the cliffs and the water. Views of the ocean were phenomenal. The atmosphere is certainly more laid back than some of the resorts along the seven-mile beach in Negril. It was easy to take a free shuttle to the beach during the daytime - between the relaxed atmosphere by the cliffs and the busy beach scene we felt that we got the best of both worlds. We had a BLAST jumping off the cliffs into the water. The food was probably the worst part of the trip, local and filling, but definitely not gourmet. We also enjoyed the free drinks at the bar! As two college students on a tropical getaway, Samsara fit the bill - romantic, fun, and right on budget!

My purpose for the visit was mostlly to relax. The full body massage was esquisite. Activity was at a minimum, and the hotel provided me the privacy and serene environment I sought. I didn't go all-inclusive, but found the the local cuisine to be outstanding. TV viewing included premium channels.

The hotel was hit hard by Hurricane Paloma and it did damage to a lot of the rooms. I had to be re-routed to a crappy hotel for 2 nights. This hotel didn't accomodate me for the inconvenience, and I understand it wasn't there fault. But they could've done more. The management said that I would be given a complimentary breakfast, but I didn't get it. I booked a garden view room, and I got an ocean view bungalow which was nice. The food at the hotel I thought was EXCELLENT. The hotel nickel and dimes guests though. Sunsets were gourgeous. Everyone was nice. I got a massage twice. Overall I enjoyed myself. I did go to Legends a number of times, the bar at Legends is a little more intimate which was nice. Food was good there as well. The entertainment wasn't all that good. I would stay here again, definitely.

Stayed a little over a year ago with my husband. Neither of us knew what to expect. The photos appear that some minor upgrades have been made (new umbrellas, etc). For the money this is the best deal out there- you can go to the beach everyday if you like, but we decided to stay by the cliffs a few days to be away from it all. Free shuttle if you want to wait for it both ways everyday. We took taxis after the first day, only about five dollars each way- and you could probably talk drivers down from that price. I advise that you take taxis everywhere that you want to go, people will harrass you for money or to buy things if you are on foot. In my opinion the only bad thing about Negril, and a fairly big irritation. Just take taxis and have them wait for you if you are going in. We did not get the all-inclusive because we like to venture out and try local food. We did order off the menu several times and the food did look better than that of the all-inclusive buffet. The breakfast wasn't great, expensive for what it was. There is an internet cafe across the street that has good food for around $5 for breakfast. We ended up going there everyday. The beach at Legends was okay, very pretty water. A little too crowded. If they still have a "guard" you can rest assured that your things will not be stolen. This man walks around with a very large club to make sure that no one steals from guests and that the walking merchants don't bother anyone unless you want their wares. He will also arrange tours and chairs/umbrellas for you. Tip him! Awesome.

The staff here are very helpful and friendly, but are unfortunately ham-strung by managements' policies. The "2 towels and no more under any circumstances" policy is taken to even more insane heights on discovery that when those 2 towels are being washed, you have NONE. Do people really want those scratchy, low quality towels so much that this is really necessary?? Having guests sit on the patio in a wet, sandy bathing suits waiting for towels is pretty ridiculous. We also thought that by booking the more expensive "tree houses" (#4), that they would be nicer... not so! The bed was hard, and had a large hill in the middle with one side sagging badly. The bathroom door only partially opened and the room appeared to have been last painted by young people. sometime in the 80's. If you can't find anywhere else to stay on the cliffs (unlikely) then stay here- it's better than not going to Negril- otherwise check out other cheap options like the Lighthouse Inn.

wow samsara has been such a positive experience. we have returned to the resort 2 years in row and would re book the resort again. best value if you want a clean room, fabulous cliff side view of the ocean at sunset. cliff dive. rooms are simple and clean. many areas for sunning. you don't have the beach but you can take a shuttle to the sister resort legends on the beach. all inclusive is a great deal for breakfast including jamaican blue mountain cofee. sunset happy hour is another reason inclusive is a great deal.. the second year we didn't go inclusive but many great hidden local restaurants are within walking. if you don't have to have frills this is the best place to be. many rennovations had been done between our trips. we find the month of february to be delightful. if you like to adventure and aren't affraid to get to know the locals you will love and return to this area of jamaica year after year.. treat the locals and tip them- you can get about anything you want for a price that can always be haggled over. looking forward to samasara feb 2009!!
