The Teigngrace apartment on the ground floor and Haytor apartment on the first floor are perfect for families with children of all ages. We are situated in a sleepy hamlet, this thatched farmhouse is only 5 minutes from the A38 (Cornwall) and A380 (Torquay) and therefore within easy reach of Exeter, Torbay and Plymouth. Older than Shakespeare and set in its own grounds, Sampson’s provides a welcome change from the usual anonymous motels and corporate guests always appreciate the difference. Owned by the Bell family for over 35 years, Sampson’s provides the perfect retreat in which to relax and unwind, with inglenook fireplaces and log fires in the winter. Meandering through the meadows, the River Teign makes a beautiful setting for walks just down the lane.

STAY AT BESSIETOWNWe (my husband and I) very much enjoyed our one night stay at this B & B - the owners were charming and recommended places for dinner. The accommodation was really nice (we had the honeymoon suite) and breakfast in the morning was excellent.We would very much like to return and spend more time in this lovely aea.

Sampson ReviewRoom was very nice - But no hot water so cold shower and had to boil kettle to shave which was really disappointing. Also Breakfast was to late for me would have liked to have had breakfast at 7.00am, as I had to get away by 7.30 latest. I advised that I was not able to make breakfast, but was not offered a another option or a discount, not a big deal but would have been nice.

The attention to detail at this guesthouse was second to none. It is said that theres no place like you own bed, but the bed here was more comfortable than my own. Food delicious. Setting outstanding. Would certainly recommend to a friend.

Short Stay in DevonVery good accommodation everything that we had hoped for. We arrived in the afternoon to pick up the key with our 2 young children. We were greeted by Eliza who was feeding the geese and chickens, she fetched a hatchling for our children to see and handle, much to their delight (the kids not the hatchlings!)Met Nigel, the owner, who was very friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable and had all we needed for our short stay. We booked a deluxe double which has a small patio looking out to the farmland. Woke in the morning and enjoyed a cup of tea on the patio listening to the cockerels. Breakfast was served in the impressive thatched farmhouse, fresh eggs and locally sourced produce all served with a smile from Nigel's wife, who reminded me of the actress who played the lead in the film "Little Voice" she is also an extremely accomplished artist who's paintings adorn every room in the house. She holds watercolour classes for anybody who is interested in honing their artistic skills. All in all an excellent choice of accommodation for a peaceful relaxing getaway. Sadly we didn't stay long enough to sample the highly rated food in the restaurant. We will certainly book again and hopefully stay a little longer next time.

We will defiantly be returningWe enjoyed every minute of our stay at Bessiestown. We received a warm welcome from the family on arrival and this was consistent throughout our stay. Friends and family joined us as we were getting married at Gretna on the Saturday and everyone was impressed with the location, the rooms and decor and the little finishing touches that made the place special. The food and service was excellent and we couldn't have asked for more.

Lovely StayI was in Devon on business and happened to book this hotel on late rooms. The surroundings are really beautiful. The accomadation has a cottage feel . I felt like I had been dropped onto the set of 'The darling buds of May'. The food here is fantastic to say the least and the service was prompt and you are well looked after in the resturant and lounge area before being asked in to dine.I will be going back and would recommed this stay.

Paradise found?Loved our short stay at Sampsons...the setting is idylic and we could happily spend a few days there! Our room was smallish, but comfortable, with a lovely sun terrace overlooking the much talked about hens and cockerels (put to bed at night, so no noise disturbance)We arrived in the afternoon and loved the fact we could have a drink in the cosy bar or a devon cream tea in the lovely outside seating area. The restaurant here is fantastic and we booked in for an evening meal, both the service and the food was superb!! Breakfast was also a pleasure!!The place just oozes character and is perfectly sitauted for numerous outings. We went racing at Newton Abbot, just up the road and the following morning after checking out we drove to the coast, ten miles away or so.We will definitely return and hopefully for more than one nights stay!!

Excellent location, warm welcomeStayed here for one night on a cycle trip from Derby to Edinburgh. Very warm welcome, despite us turning up scruffy and sweaty after a day's cycling. Food (evening meal and breakfast) first class - including a vegetarian option. Highly recommended.

A jewel of a place. It maybe slightly off the beaten track, but the reception I received was excellent. A warm wlecome, a small but comfortable room was an introduction to Sampsons. The evening meal was a delight. Excellently presented food with genuinely attentive staff. While slightly expensive and perhaps beyond the budget of many travelling business personel the cost of food is balanced by the low price of accommodation. Will certainly use this again.

charming accommodation in a peaceful settingWe arrived in very hot weather and were given a self-catering suite 'because the bedrooms were too hot' - a very pleasant surprise! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and ate there every night because the food was so good (also because it's quite a way from anywhere else). The breakfasts were especially delicious.Only two very minor niggles: we were disappointed that the pool was apparently not available, though in fact it was in use as we came in on our last evening (we should have asked); and it was a bit irritating to have the same music on throughout the evening meal every night.Otherwise, immaculate, beautifully furnished accommodation, lovely residents' lounge and conservatory with an 'honesty' bar, very friendly and attentive service. Obviously a place that many people come back to again and again. The gardens, farmland and quiet country roads round about are the perfect environment for a relaxing stay.

About as good as it gets!I stay in very high standard hotels at least three nights a week on business, so never really get excited about leisure visits. Sampsons Farm is completely unique and I'm a little reluctant to 'let the cat out of the bag' from a purely selfish perspective. Our room was the Penthouse, which was absolutely gorgeous, the service was on a par or even better than some 5 star hotels that we have stayed in and the food was just stunning. Intimate, cosy, personal and no over-the-top snobbery that you might expect from any similiar quality stay. And value........top drawer! Thanks Nigel.
