A excellent and friendly hotel. Both staff and owners were fiendly and attentive. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the restaurant was probably better than Michelin star establishments

A wonderful rural retreat, charmingly surrounded by all the activities of a working farm, though without the smells and the noise. Service was superb with very friendly welcoming staff, and the room though not luxurious was charming and comfortable. The whole place had a family atmosphere and the traditional Devon farm house that forms the core of the Hotel/Restaurant is cosy and a beautiful example of its type. Lovely riverside walks nearby. Althoughtucked away down a little lane, it is not difficult to find. Easy access to Totnes, Dartmouth and the Torbay area. The food was outstanding. We definitely hope to make a return visit sometime and will recommend it to friends and family.

We had an excellent break, food was fantastic, location very good, room not 4 star but clean and had everything we needed. didn't like the fact we had no window in the bathroom, only a fan, shower ran cold when washing my hair had to finish in cold water. Breakfast very good. Overall very happy.

Nice quiet location (except for noisy gravel every time a car went in or out). Good food (but slightly expensive). Friendly staff.

easy access of mainroads and easy to find. We booked the penthouse which has two double rooms. great huge bed in main room, nice view of countryside. Decor is average and it could do with a little more TLC. however only downside.restaurant small, very intimate, quite expensive, starter£8 main £20, but really good locally sourced food. will go again

The staff were friendly and efficient without being patronising. The food in the restaurant was superb - and generally I'm not a foody type person. I would definitely recommend this hotel and already have done so. When I am next in the area on business or for pleasure I will be staying there

Hotel did not receive our booking so we were unexpected. We were given the tiny disabled room, which was blandly decorated, cramped, and in a relatively poor state of maintenance (e.g. screw holes all over walls where items had been removed). Not what I expected from what is billed as an up-market hotel.

Stayed on business but will be back with the family, accomodation was cosy and the food was top quality. Top marks all round.

This hotel is highly recommended whether you are staying on business or pleasure. The staff and owners are pleasant and helpful. The welcome is warm and the rooms to a good standard. I will definately use this hotel again.

I've rated Value for Money as "High" because we got a free upgrade to the "Penthouse" (room 13) which was very private and had lovely views over open fields. Even without the upgrade I would rate this hotel very highly, nice friendly owner and efficient staff. Great breakfasts and dinners, well cooked. Be prepared for a little wait to be served at dinnertime, but enjoy the local ales, cider and hospitality while you wait.

The hotel was easy to find using sat nav possibly harder if using a map. Room was very nice, tv a bit large screen for a small sitting room, made your eyes go funny. Kitchen window was impossible to open as we were all under 5ft 4ins. Breakfast was fine for meat eaters but as a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs choice was limited. Suggest chef might like to explore the possibilities of quorn. We ate in the restaurant on our first evening, meat eaters were happy, my veg risotto dish was a bit boring and the rice a bit too al dente, too much emphasis on cheese in vegetarian selection which wasn't big. Again quorn is great for veggies, very versatile, anything you can do with meat you can make with quorn and its cholesterol free too. They also do sausages and bacon in quorn. Appart from the lack of provision for vegetarians the food was good and it was nice to see they use local produce. Hotel is nicely located to explore the countryside and coast. If I had been a meat eater I would have given the quality of food a bit higher mark but as I'm not and I'm writing the review I was personally disappointed in the range of food available to me, hence the fact that we cooked for ourself the second night.

After reading all the excellent reviews we were most disappointed with our room which was very poky and shabby. We have stayed in many establishments and received much better value for money, Extremely overpriced and over rated.
