This hotel is up a STRONG incline and very hard to reach by foot. When we arrived we had booked already yet were treated as if we were a complete inconvienance. We were given a 3rd floor with a view of the building next door. The bed is supposed to be a queen but felt more like a full. The showers in the bathroom have two settings: scolding hot or freezing cold. We were informed that housekeeping is not standard and so had to make our own bed and clean up our wet towels ourselves. I would highly reccomend ANYWHERE BUT HERE!

Just out of main street traffic - nice local. Ocean view rooms have terrible view - almost no ocean tons of buildings. Nice place to keep away from bars and street traffic. Still very close to everything. Hotel staff was mostly great (one bad apple). Paid a ton for ocean view but got lots of telephone wires, buildings and junk blocking our view.

Amazing historical hotel. Two minute walking distance from the water but just far enough off the beaten path for privicay. Staff was extreamly friendly and helpful especially for a first time visitor to Avalon. We had a great view of the town and ocean from our room with a private balcony for a great cost. I highly recomend this hotel for anyone looking for a close getaway from our hectic Los Angeles lives.

Overall, this hotel is quite nice. Although the bed is a bit hard, I didn't notice it since I was exhausted from scuba diving. Very friendly staff. It is not far out of the way from the shore, but everything is within walking distance. If you don't mind the small stroll down to the shore, this hotel is just right for you with a very reasonable price.

We have stayed in this hotel several times. It is nice because the rooms are classy and clean and it's away from the loud music and crowds of front street. We only had to walk a few blocks to the beach. We had a romantic time on the balcony which has a great view!

The hotel is easy walking distance to pier, harbor, and shopping. The sixth floor balcony is perhaps the hotels best feature and a great place for morning coffee with a spectacular view of Avalon harbor. The staff was friendly and helpful even though when I arrived after a long sailing race I must have looked and smelled like a derelict. My wife and six year old twins took the ferry to the island and met me there. That said, however, the large very pink Victorian hotel is showing its age. Our room on the fourth floor had a partial ocean view but was stuffy with poor ventilation. There was an air conditioning unit in the room but only the fan worked. Only coffee and packaged creamers and sugar was available in the morning. For the $250 per night price tag I expected something several rungs higher on the quality ladder. Additionally the hotel's cancellation policy - complete forfeit of the 100% deposit leaves much to be desired. I have not stayed at other Catalina hotels and booked this one because it was the only available choice at the time. In summary I would say the hotel is worth more in the $100 per night range an in the future I will be evaluating other choices for Avalon lodging.

The rooftop and location. Our room was next to another family with large family. After arriving we were quite tired and wanted to rest. Kept hearing some creamns and cries and realize were next door on the other side of thought noise was outside and instead it adjacent door to the room. Soon I went to the clerk and she changed our room. I would not people a couple next to any room where a door is next unless it is with family. This was our 40th anniversary.

Our group of 4 found the (slight uphill) walk from the waterfront very reasonable -- even an advantage to trade late night "people noise" for that of the occasional golf cart driving on the street. We arrived an hour earlier than the 3:00 check-in time. Understandably, the rooms were not available right away. Though offered an opportunity to store our bags, we elected to wait 30 minutes, checked in early and spent an enjoyable first afternoon and evening in/around Avalon. The staff was friendly and approachable throughout the stay. Both rooms were clean and bright. Windows could be opened to admit fresh air. The baths and closets were larger than expected. The rooms themselves were somewhat dominated by one queen bed, armoire, table and two chairs. We used one of the balconies whenever we wanted to meet as a group of four. On the final day, we stored bags early, enabling us to enjoy a final full day before retrieving the bags and returning to the mainland in the early evening. If you prefer to see Avalon from your room there would be better views from a property on the waterfront. If you like to spend your days exploring the harbor and surrounding points of interest later to retire in relative quiet, you will find a good value here.

Up on hill which led to port via one street. Staff unavailable until after 08.00. Lovely location; nicely furnished but small rooms. Not much in facilities; ice machine tops the list! Security guard sleeps in hotel at night, only person on duty but can do nothing in way of inn keeping. No one at front desk handling inn keeping duties until 08.00 or even later and then one must wait until daily tally is done to see if your room might be available for another night. No restaurant, but this is not unusual at Avalon Bay area. I would not stay there again if I were to return to Avalon Bay area. The entire island is pretty much too laid back and they don't know how to deal with onslaught of people from cruise ships (even though I was not one of the cruise ship passengers); stores open and close at will; close in middle of afternoon and sometimes forget to open again in the evening. Too much of an island mentality to suit my needs, even for a resort. Not really much to do on the island. One day is enough unless you have business as I did.

The location of the Hotel is great as it is near a Vons market and walking distance to everything else in Avalon. The room was small, but clean. Since we had a room on the street, it was noisy, so we had to close the windows.

Ocean view (balcony). Super thin walls, heard everything said in normal tone of voice in next door room. Good: It fronts on Avalon's bay view. It's distance from the water and up a hill (2-3 blocks) make it quieter than the hotels at water level; that also makes it a chore to hike uphill to the hotel.

A very nice hotel. The walk up hill was not the best for an 86 year old couple.

the street doesnt detract from the hotel. its a nice walk through town to get there, if you stop to enjoy the sights. If you have a lot of baggage you will want to get a cab or means to transport your stuff. Like an old victorian land mark on top of a hill, it felt like one of the nicer places to stay. 6th floor view was great if you dont get to go on a tour of the island. seemed quiet and away from the busy shoreline. water was hot, ac worked, would stay there again.

It had a romantic look and was pleasing to the eye. The top balcony was nice. Employees much too loud through thin walls. The cars going up the hill were very loud. The placement of the room was very displeasing. Not only were we constantly woken up through the night by carts putting loudly trying to get up the hill, but we were woken up very early by hotel employees yelling to each other across the hall. It was a nice looking place but I would rather be able to enjoy the rest of the sights of Catalina if we could get some sleep.

Booked last minute and most hotels were full so we were expecting mediocrity. Instead the room was fine, balcony had great views and the hotel was just a stone's throw from the heart of Avalon.

Gorgeous view of the harbor from the rooftop. Older, smaller hotel. The hotel is at the top of the hill, which makes for a great view - but not a fun walk up with luggage! The rooftop is very nice and relaxing, beautiful views, but the staff was completely absent most of the time.

The hotel is two blocks back from the beach with a wonderfull view of the harbor. check in staff did and for a small increase we had a very nice room with a view of the harbor and a balcony. I plan to go there again

The community balcony on the 6th floor has great panoramic views. Walls are thin & does not drown noise out from other rooms. The hotel is slightly on the old side and in need of some upgrades, however very clean and they make the best of the space available. The community balcony on the 6th floor has great panoramic views. The desk staff is friendly & helpful.
