Room CleanlinessAlthough the overall cleanliness was good, attention to detail needs to be addressed. The chair by the dressing table was apalling, ie. dusty and has not seen a hoover for months. This is a two minute job and should be done every time the room is changed.

St george hotel & Spa HarrogateGranted there are some signs around the hotel saying that refurbishment is underway, I could not see any, or hear any. My room was small, and shabby. The bathroom was also tired, and unhygienic. When you pulled the bath plug out the water then back filled into the hand basin creating a pool of foul water.Traffic noise and sound pollution all night long. Not an experience I want to repeat.

Good for an overnight stayGreat location with own car park. Hotel let down by a general need to be re-decorated. Otherwise good service and food.

Yorkshire BreakSt. George Hotel and Spa is in a central position in the town, just across from the Royal Pump room and the Bath House which has recently been beautifully restored. Ideal, both for those who just want a weekend break, shopping, eating out etc. and those who want to see other attractions in the area and need a central base.

Good break in HarrogateStayed 15th and 16th July 2009 to attend the Yorkshire Show. I was very concerned when we arrived to see signs saying major work being carried out at the hotel, which we hadnt been informed about prior to our arrival but inconveniece was kept to a minimum. The rooms were clean but I do hope that the shower area in the gym are upgraded during this work as they are now dated and do not smell the best. The stay itself was very pleasant and I would return.

We stayed at St George for our 'mini-moon'. My husband phoned the hotel after we had booked and when they were told that we had just got married our standard double was upgraded for free to an executive room. We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews about the state of the hotel, but we were very happy when we arrived. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the exterior and reception of the hotel were grand and welcoming. There are polite notices everywhere explaining that a renovation program is ongoing. We got up to our room which was enormous compared to other hotels we have stayed in, with a superking size canopied bed and a whirlpool bath big enough for two! It was fairly quiet as our room was at the back. Yes there are places which need decorating as they are a little shabby, but it is a big old place and understandably cannot be shut while the whole place is decorated! Our breakfast and dinner were included and were wonderful, especially the 3 course dinner. The service and the food were fantastic, and the waitress gave us suggestions as to what to do during our stay. The mushroom soup for starter and the chocolate mouse I had for dessert were to die for! We would definitely go back again and would love to see the place after the full renovation, we loved the character of the place, much more than the newer hotels where all the rooms are the same. We hope to stay for our 1st anniversary!

The food was superThe hotel is about to undergo a refit, however the room was comfortable if a little tired. The dinner was superb - a one night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast was great value for money.I'll be back

Very disappointingOne of the worst hotels i have ever stayed in and considering it was £90 for a double room it was easily the worst value for money. The hotel itself looked like it was on the verge of falling down and the rooms were scruffy, small and ill equipped. There was only one towel to share between us in a double room! The only positive thing i can say was the breakfast was nice. However, this place should definately be avoided. I'll certainly never stay there again.

faded grandeurThis hotel could be fantastic and I hope the refurb. will keep the best features and yet bring it up to the standard that guests expect today. My family stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding nearby but were very disappointed with the hotel. The staff were ok, but on the first night they closed the bar while we were still drinking and never asked us if we required any more drinks just put the shutters down and walked away. My nephew and his girl friend had problems with the electricity in their room which went off each time she tried to use the hairdryer and couldn't understand why the member of staff was trying to fix the bulb in the lamp !

Don’t be fooled by the picturesThe facilities said this hotel has a terrace bar and the pictures show a outside terrace I thought that was the terrace oh no they do have a terrace bar but there is no terrace and the picture of the terrace is actually part of the next doors building.

SpaAn excellent spa hotel (with very quiet delightful spa facilities). Impressed by building, central location, and view from bedroom. Dining room impressive with excellent service.

Shabby, noisy, poor value for moneyThe room had paint peeling from the bath surround, window frame and had some wallpaper hanging off. The carpet in our room was threadbare in places. The whole hotel had a shabby, down-at-heel appearance. There were notices up about a refurbishment programme that had commenced in November 2008, but there was no evidence it had reached the interior. We would not stay here again until the refurbishment was completed.

Tired and tatteredRoom: stains and cracks on ceiling. Decor tatty. Bathroom terible. A bit of painted hard-board was being used to cover the lower part of the bathroom window. Presumably this was for privacy. It was cracked and warped with peeling paint and made the room look boarded-up. The shower was pathetic; made of yellowing plastic and not possible to wash with. Speaking of washing. The spa facilities are awful and do not warrant the name 'spa'. The sauna is so tiny it feels like a wardrobe. The pool isn't suitable for swimming. The changing facilities and associated showers are especially disappointing and, being unventilated, smell quite fungal!
