The lobby of the Hotel St Francis is lovely. Its location is just off the Plaza and across from Pasquale's which is a great place to eat.The standard room I had was very small though, if there were two of us we would have been tripping over each other...as a single it was just tolerable. Check in went very smoothly. The problem came when an emergency occurred. The hotel as well as a few square blocks around the hotel went into a black-out at about 6PM. The manager sent the restaurant and bar staff home and locked everything up tight. As evening progressed and darkness came, the hotel was ill prepared. Although there were a few flashlights and some candles to light the way to our rooms, they did not have candles for the guests. They were very rude to a few guests who decided to stay in the lobby where there was a lit fireplace and at least have some light and a chance to chat with others. A guest went to his car and procured a bottle of wine and was threatened by a staff member that the police would be called because there was an open bottle of wine in the lobby. These guests got quite angry at the attitude of this staff member and of the lack of information they provided as to what had occurred and when electricity would be restored. To be fair, not all the staff was that rude... someone got us wine glasses and kept the fire stoked with wood...I do, however, think the staff needs some training on how to respond in emergencies and the hotel needs better preparation. The next morning electricity had been restored and things were back to normal and the hotel staff was friendly and helpful.

Location, staff, cleanliness. It's under construction. We love this hotel. This time it was under construction, so no restaurant or much of a lobby.

I made my booking online through Orbitz. yet when I arrived, there was no sign of my booking. However, the woman on the front desk (Nicole) was able to trace my booking as I had brought the online documentation with me. In this she was efficient and pleasant. Nevertheless I would suggest anyone who books online keep copies of websites and documentation with them in case this happens. The staff were also helpful when I arrived back late in the evening. The only downside is there is no lift and I was on the 3rd floor with luggage. Otherwise the bed was comfy, the small attached bathroom was adequate, and the sink in the bedroom was handy. A great hotel for the price and well-located downtown. Reccommended.

I booked online. It was noted that the hotel was under renovation, but breakfast was available. The dining room was completely closed. Only one floor was open for guests. My room was very small. I used an extension cord across the bathroom access to set up my computer. I used my suitcase for a bedside stand. I faced the back of the Coyote Cafe and listened to motorcycles and yelling every night, often until 3AM. During the day, most of the parking spaces for guests were used by workmen. The only ventilation was opening a window, and then the night noise was even louder. I would not stay there again, even if the renovation would ever be completed.

The ambience of the old hotel is gone. The lobby, bar, restaurants are all closed. Yu enter and register through a side door, must take circuitous routes to get to the room. The rooms are small, but this was OK when you could relax in the grand lobby, in front of the fireplace. No more. Status is NOT prominently posted on their website. A reservation can be made without seeing the link to "our exciting renovation". Staff was indifferent when I expressed my dismay upon arrival. Since I was within the guarantee window, I had no choice but to stay. There are other better choices within a reasonable price range at this time.

I relax in Santa Fe 6 times a year and stay at the St Francis every winter as it is like staying at grandma's house. Yes, yes, the rooms are super tiny but the bedding is cozy with white sheets and soft clean comforters, and you can watch the snow fall through the lace curtains. Each room has a different theme - I've stayed in the flower room, the little bear room and the ballerina room! Get a glass of wine from downstairs and go back up to the second floor and work on the hotel picture puzzle. The location couldn't be better

The St. Francis Hotel was comfortable. The room was very clean and the staff were very helpful. Our overal stay was very good. The only problem I had with this hotel was our check-in clerk. She looked down on us as if were were lost or something and unworthy of being in the hotel. Granted we were very tired after a very long drive and we did not look our best. This initial reaction from an employee of the hotel made me very upset. The other staff were extremly helpful and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. I only regret not letting management know my concern as I checked out.

The hotel is under reconstruction. There is nothing charming in any public space. normal public space is closed off. When reconstruction is complete it will no doubt be better.

Built about 100 years ago, the hotel maintains its early 20th century charm and nostalgia. This is a place where you can easily imagine Teddy Roosevelt strolling the halls. Its about 2 blocks from the historic Plaza of Santa Fe. All in all I enjoyed my stay. Granted the floors are a bit creaky in places, the windows look to be original, and some of the furniture looks like it has been antiqued in-place by long use. The elevator still has a manually operated door with a great brass cage on the inside. When built, guests were intended to use the grand stair case to reach their rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors. There is a large lobby with a streetside porch for morning coffe or afternoon drinks. My single room was cozy by modern standards, but was well appointed. The sink basin was by the foot of the bed and there was a step up into a small separate toilet/bath room. The classic iron framed bed was comfortable. During my stay the dinning room, room service, and the afternoon tea were shut down in preparation for renovations. There was a display in the lobby outlining the proposed remodel which is suppose to be completed by Summer 09. Check before booking.

The good thing about the St. Francis is that the rooms are large and you can walk to areas in old town Santa Fe. But the bad part of this trip far exceeded the good including: an overheated room, dirty sheets on the bed when arriving, no temp control on the shower and a loud hotel bar open until 1pm. To overcome the heat, we had to open the street window in December with temps in the single digits. Dirty sheets were changed promptly when requested. The shower ran hot to cold coninuously - no solution. The bar on the first floor turned up music at 10pm and kept going until around 1am. Complained to staff 4 times about music noise, but no changes made and no discount given on bill. Given 2 sleepless nights and the cost of this hotel, this is the worst place I have ever stayed.

I cannot find any words that are good. We were confined to our room because the hotel is being remodeled. It wasn't a very pleasant stay.

I have yet to decide if I will stay here again on successive visits. For the location, the price is terrific. It's a toss-up between the St. Francis & the Inn of the Governors for the price - however, though a lot of the rooms at the Inn feel like a motel (hotel rooms open to outside - you have to pay "extra" for a nicer room "in" the hotel) it includes a decent breakfast buffet; whereas the St. Francis has no inclusive meals or freebies. What the St. Francis does have is a lot of charm - however, that's because it's a very old building. Old buildings have old pipes & hence, we had a lot of hot water issues. Our tv also mysteriously wouldn't turn on every night & we had to call maintenance to come up each time. Supposedly, they're entirely renovating over this winter, including new furniture/TVs/etc. The beds were comfortable, though the floors are squeaky & we had some rather heavy-footed people in the room above us. The staff was very friendly & accomodating. They had a very delicious "afternoon tea" that I would recommend, even if you don't stay there. Also, they have a very lovely fireplace in lobby - when they actually have it on.

I've stayed in other "old hotels" and not been as impressed. Maybe it's because of the bedding -- really sumptuous and comfortable, and clean. I want the name of the mattress!! It was really something, soft but not mushy, incredibly inviting after hours and hours of sightseeing in the Four Corners and into northcentral NM.. Also I've stayed in cheaper Snata Fe hotels and gotten what I paid for, so I still left here thinking I got a good value, and for me, value starts with location. The location can't be beat, and this is important as parking in Santa Fe can be difficult to find -- a block over fron the La Fonda, a couple of blocks from the Loretto and a nice maybe 5 minute walk to St Francis Cathedral if one was inclined to go to Mass. And a lot of eateries are right there -- Pasquale's is on the corner, Coyote Cafe down the block behind the hotel. Shoppping is one block over, the famous five and dime is kitty-corner from the hotel. Again, parking spots come into play as, if you opt not to do your weightlifting with your shopping loot, just go out the back door and stash the bags in your car's trunk conveniently still parked in the same spot as when you checked in.The staff were great to me andmy companions, helpful with recommendations and directions. Yes, the bathroom was small, but everything was clean. The hot-and-cold worked fine for us. The hotel's parking lot is miniscule but you can validate for the much bigger municipal lot across the street.Hope you enjoy your stay in beautiful Santa Fe!

We come to Santa Fe quit often and stay at different hotels each time. On our visit to St Francis things fell short. The bed was not that confortable and the widows in the room would not lock. When we went to check out the process was long and tidious. And they charged us to park in their lot. I would have payed less to pay the meter. There are tons of hotels in Santa Fe so we would be back.

My room was very small, but it was * a night, so I was happy with that. The lobby is beautiful, especially at Christmas. There's a wonderful fireplace and a friendly bar/restaurant. The front desk staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The location absolutely cannot be beat. If you don't like old hotels, you won't like it. If you enjoy historic hotels, though, this one's a winner.

The location was excellent.. The room was tiny; the elevator was broken. The hotel is a construction zone; the restaurant was closed and the elevator was broken. We had to lug our suitcases up several flights of stairs. The room was tiny. We couldn't even find room for our bags without tripping over them. Service was okay but not terribly friendly - i.e, some of the staff wouldn't say hello or even make eye contact.

Friendly staff. Should have been made aware that the hotel was under renovation. No lobby or elevators.
